On returning to scale Jockey P Cullen requested that Stewards review the start of the race to ascertain whether MAGGIE’S PAL had been denied a fair start. After taking submissions from Jockey Cullen and Starter Mr W Kelly, and viewing the available patrol footage Stewards were of the opinion that the mare, which had drawn the inside barrier, had taken fright just prior to the start being effected and as a result had not jumped away with the rest of the field. Acting under the provisions of AR.134A Stewards declared MAGGIE’S PAL a non-starter and ordered that all monies wagered on the mare be refunded in full. Further Stewards ordered that all successful wagers placed on the event be subject to deductions of 31 cents win and 28 cents place on the face value of the betting ticket.
