RACE 1: GOODNA RUGBY LEAGUE OLD BOYS QTIS 2YO CLASS 3 SW PLATE – 800M

Stewards acceded to a request from trainer P. Butterworth that due to the improving firmness of the track to declare ARGYLL BAY a late scratching at 11.50 .am.

RACE 2: HOTEL KERWICK MAIDEN SW PLATE – 1700M

ST JAMES SQUARE – Kicked by another runner behind the barriers, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. Slow to begin. Momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

RED SAGA – Slow to begin.

MARINA'S SON – Began awkwardly.

LORD DARIUS – Raced 3 wide in the early stages before assuming a position one off the fence approaching the 1000m.

WHY THE LONG HEAD – Shied when returning to scale dislodging its rider A. Spinks resulting in him receiving a seemingly harmless fall.

RACE 3: J.G. MULLAN CONSTRUCTIONS MAIDEN WR 1.5KG H’CAP – 1200M

IN TAIWAN – Trainer D. Bell was fined $100.00 for the late declaration of App T. Brooker as rider. Bumped at the start.

DRUM MASTER – Slow to begin. When questioned as to the seemingly improved performance, trainer's representative S. Clarke advised that at its first start in a race the gelding drew wide and as a result raced wide throughout the event. He added that in his opinion the gelding had derived a fitness benefit from that run and as such had expected a forward showing in today's event. Stewards noted the explanation.

AWESOME MORE – Began awkwardly, shifted out making to contact with WINNING SPIRIT and then shifted in bumping IN TAIWAN.

WINNING SPIRIT – Contact at the start. Made the home turn awkwardly and had to be steadied on a number of occasions. On return to scale jockey J. Byrne reported that given the horse had previously had a tendency to hang out in its races he elected to look to improve between runners from the 500m. Jockey Byrne added that as a result the horse was reluctant to improve between runners in the home straight, which attributed to the horse racing greenly.

GOLD JACKET – Commenced to lose ground shortly after the start taking no competitive part in the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer P. Robbins was at a loss to explain the performance other than the gelding may have resented the tongue tie it was racing in for the first time today. Ms Robbins gave an undertaking to advise stewards should anything come to light in the next few days that may have had a bearing on the horse's performance. Nonetheless Ms Robbins was advised that GOLD JACKET must trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again.

DE LAGO JET - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
RACE 4: JUST SPORTS AND FITNESS RATINGS BAND 0-60 H’CAP – 800M

App G. Willoughby the rider of LE CHACAL was fined $100.00 for failing to claim down to her declared riding weight.

JEPTOO – Tightened for room at the start.

POCILLO – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

STRUCTURAL DAMAGE – Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping JEPTOO.

MAFIA PRINCESS – Began awkwardly.

I GOT TRIX – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.

ISIS MAGIC – Tendency to lay out for the majority of the race and then continued to hang out when placed under pressure in the home straight, resulting in its rider App J. Oliver having to stop riding and straighten his mount on a number of occasions. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer B. Currie advised that ISIS MAGIC will now be sent for an immediate spell.

WHATEVER MISS – Raced wide throughout.

LIFE'S LIKE THAT – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

RACE 5: SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FRUIT SHOP C,G&E CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M

App G. Willoughby the rider of WHATEVER MISS was fined $100.00 for failing to claim down to her declared riding weight.

FAST TRACK MAGIC – Bounded in the air as the start was effected and lost ground.

LE CHACAL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Raced wide for majority.

MR SEDUCTION – Approaching the 1000m hung out forcing FLINDERS BEACH out and hampering BONSEA, which had to be steadied. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted App B. Stower stated that it was not her intention to lead on the gelding today however, drawing an inside barrier and beginning well the horse obtained the lead without being placed under any pressure. Trainer T. White advised the only instructions issued to App Stower was to have the horse where racing comfortable however, not specifically to lead. Stewards noted their explanations.

FLINDERS BEACH – Forced out approaching the 1000m.

BONSEA – Approaching the 1000m was hampered and had to be steadied.

TAIYOSHIN – Hung out in the middle stages and raced ungenerously. When asked to explain the performance App E. Ljung reported that in her opinion the gelding was not comfortable on today's firm surface and as a result was reluctant to stretch out when placed under pressure. App Ljung added that in her opinion the gelding was disappointing. Trainer J. Dann expressed his disappointment in the gelding's performance today and advised stewards he would have further tests conducted back at his stable and report any findings to stewards. Mr Dann further added that he may experiment with gear changes prior to the gelding's next start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

RACE 6: KATE FULTON MEMORIAL FILLIES & MARES CLASS 1 H’CAP = 1350M

ANDARI – Slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be suffering from a bout of the thumps.

FOR ME ARGENTINA – Tightened for room at the start.

HUSSY ROCKSTAR – Tightened for room at the start.

NEAR THE CITY – Steadied from the heels of ANDARI , which shifted out under pressure leaving the 100m. Jockey G. Goold (ANDARI) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority.

POP BUBBLE POP – App J. Hodge dropped his whip near the 200m.

RACE 7: SMC (AUST) LTD CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1200M

BULLITT COUNTY – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost ground.

EXTRASAY – Checked near the 200m.

Stewards inquired into the reason EXTRASAY had to be checked near the 200m. It was established that approaching the 200m SCRAP COPPER (T. Harrison) shifted out slightly resulting in LADY DUPORTH (M. Hellyer) having to shift out marginally causing RHYME NOR RHYTHM (B. Stewart), which was racing to those runners' outside and being ridden along, to shift out abruptly resulting in EXTRASAY having to be checked from that runner's heels. Whilst stewards could not attribute blame to any one rider and took no direct action other than to advise B. Stewart (RHYME NOR RHYTHM) to stop riding with the whip and attempt to straighten his mounts sooner than he did on this occasion.

ALL ASSURED – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
