Race 1: Big Rigs Newspaper Maiden H'cap – 1690m
SUNHOLIDAY – Slow to begin.
NAYTELLRHI MISS – Jumped outwards at the start, bumping another runner and lost ground. Held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.
MANABAR – Bumped at the start. Had difficulty obtaining clear running entering the home straight.
PUREST – Leaving the 1400m had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of MAGNORMOUS, which shifted in. J. Byrne, rider of MAGNORMOUS, was advised to exercise more care. Forced momentarily wider leaving the 1200m. When questioned regarding the performance of the horse, jockey P. Hammerley stated that whilst being inconvenienced in the early part f the race, PUREST enjoyed a nice run throughout, however failed to let down when placed under pressure leaving the 500m and, in his opinion, raced like a tired horse. Trainer S. O'Dea expressed his disappointment in the mare's performance today and would monitor its progress going forward and report to stewards should anything that comes to his attention that may have had a bearing on today's performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.
JAGNIWAS – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Inconvenienced leaving the 1200m.
SHINOBI – When the pace slackened leaving the 1200m improved onto the heels of MAGNORMOUS and shifted out, forcing PUREST wider on the track. JAGNIWAS, which was following, was also inconvenienced in this incident.
Race 2: Sci-Fleet Hino Maiden Plate – 1350m
Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey B. Stewart, rider of the third placegetter, MUSHIN, to view the stewards patrol video in the straight to ascertain if he had grounds to lodge a protest against GUADALUPE being declared second. Subsequently, jockey Stewart declined to lodge a protest.
GUADALUPE – Slow to begin. Hung in near the 300m, having to be steadied away from the heels of another runner.
SIR ROTHEWAY – Slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which performed below market expectations, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
ELUSIVE – Slow to begin. On return to scale jockey M. Hellyer was dislodged from his mount. Jockey Hellyer was examined by the ambulance officers and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
DEVONPORT – Shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip approaching the 100m and then shied at the winning post over the concluding stages, again shifting out slightly, inconveniencing MUSHIN, which had to be restrained away from that runner's heels.
ERCOLANO – Jockey R. Fradd reported his mount raced greenly throughout.
ROYAL SCRIPT – Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 200m and obliged to shift wider on the track to obtain clear running.
MUCHIN – Trainer C. Jordon was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the horse, which attempted to bite another runner over the concluding stages.
Race 3: Wanless Truck Parts F&M Ratings Band 0-58 H'cap – 1010m
SWEET REPEAT – Slow to begin. Restrained near the 800m.
JAI'S LUCK – Slow to begin.
HAVEN ANGEL – Jockey B. Cornell was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that approaching the 800m he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in, which resulted in HAVEN ANGEL and COCONUT BAY both being checked and forced in, and as a consequence resulted in SWEET REPEAT being checked and JEPTOO having to be restrained. Jockey B. Cornell was suspended from riding in races for a period of 10 days, to commence at midnight, 8 October and to expire at midnight, 18 October .
JEPTOO – Restrained near 800m. Jockey N. Tomizawa, rider of HOT GOSSIP, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that leaving the 300m he directed his mount inwards when attempting to gain clear running when not sufficiently clear of JEPTOO, making heavy contact with that runner and forcing it across the heels of SHOUTS ALL ROUND, resulting in that runner having to be checked. N. Tomizawa was suspended from riding in races for a period of 11 days, to commence midnight, 9 October and to expire at midnight, 20 October.
COCONUT BAY – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Checked near the 800m.
WHISPERING WINGS – Raced 3 wide without cover.
Race 4: Queensland Thermo King Class 2 H'cap – 1200m
STAR STRIDER – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. Momentarily placed in restricted room when overracing leaving the 1000m.
TEEMOLTON – Began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping another runner. Restrained when racing in restricted room leaving the 1000m.
THE MONK – Bumped at the start. When the pace slackened leaving the 1000m improved onto the heels of another runner and when being steadied shifted in momentarily, placing STAR STRIDER, which was overracing, in restricted room, which then shifted in, crowding TEEMOLTON, which had to be restrained. Raced 3 wide without cover.
LAKOTA SIOUX - Raced wide.
Race 5: Transport & General Insurance Brokers CG&E Ratings Band 0-58 H'cap – 1010m
TARNHELM – Stewards permitted the late scratching of the horse at 8.30 am when trainer L. Hatch advised stewards that following a veterinary examination the horse was unable to start. Mr L. Hatch was advised that he would be required to provide a veterinary certificate for today's scratching, and further that he must provide a veterinary clearance before the gelding would be permitted to race again.
STARSTREAMED – Slow to begin. Jockey B. Appo reported at scale he was of the opinion his mount was short in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be short striding in front.
LEPRECHAUN LAD – Slow to begin.
PEZENAS – Began awkwardly and shifted in
QUATTRO FANTASTICO – Tightened for room at the start.
ROCK OF GLORY – Raced 3 wide without cover.
HEART OF THUNDER – Had difficulty obtaining clear running over the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested.
Race 6: Jost Australia Class 1 H'cap – 1350m
FELTON ROAD – Slow to begin. Shortly after the start attempted to buck. Trainer R. Lipp was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse's racing manners.
I'VE GOT FRIENDS – Began awkwardly.
DEEP SHARTREUSE – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping another runner.
LEDOYEN – Bumped at the start. Jockey Colless reported at scale that, in his opinion, his mount did not appreciate the firm surface of today's track. Trainer K. Schweida advised stewards it was now his intention for the horse to be sent for an immediate spell.
FAR NORTH – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an abrasion on the near-hind fetlock and displaying thumps.
Race 7: Hastings Deering Class 4 H'cap – 1690m
