Trainer Brian Wakefield pleaded guilty pursuant to LR 43 in that at Doomben Racecourse on Tuesday 18 October 2022 he allowed an unlicensed person to ride trackwork and was fined $200. Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB Class 4 Handicap 1520 metres LE HEROS – Jumped away awkwardly making heavy contact with the outside barrier partition. When the pace of the race was steady, over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event. When asked to comment on the performance apprentice M Castle reported the horse may not have appreciated today’s firmer track conditions. HAIL TO THE CHIEF – Obliged to momentarily steady approaching the finish line when racing to the inside of HAIL TO THE CHIEF which shifted in marginally. G Geran, rider of TORBRECK, was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. DU MAURIER – Slow to begin. VALLEY OF DREAMS – When asked to comment on the performance rider M Du Plessis reported the horse may not have appreciated today’s firmer track conditions. TORBRECK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3. Race 2: TAB Class 2 Plate 1680 metres MILITARY GAMBLER – M Harley, rider of MILITARY GAMBLER, was reminded of his obligations under AR132(6)(b) in respect to raising his arm above shoulder height when applying the whip. TEA LEAVES – Began awkwardly. LEXI'S CHOICE – When the pace of the race was steady, over-raced in the early and middle stages of the event. Race 3: SIRROMET RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 Handicap 1680 metres SCILAGO – Bumped by WITCH DAY rounding the home turn and taken wider on the track. SIDEWALK – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Momentarily eased from heels near the 1400m. Shifted out to improve near the 1000m and raced wide from that point onwards. Weakened in the home straight. Rider R Fradd reported the horse raced keenly with cover in the early and middle stages which may have been a telling factor in the finish, adding that SIDEWALK may not have been entirely comfortable on today’s firmer racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealedno abnormalities. WITCH DAY – After being held up rounding the home turn, shifted out to improve entering the home straight and in doing so bumped SCILAGO. WHISTLE HOFF – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover from 1000m. Race 4: SCHWEPPES Maiden Handicap 1100 metres BALTRAY – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MODELE. Over-raced for a short distance near the 900m. SKIPPY – Leaving the 200m shifted out under pressure resulting in both NEW ARRIVAL and MODELE being taken wider on the track. NEW ARRIVAL – Slow to muster speed in the early stages of the event. Weakened noticeably in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Co-trainer S Mackinnon was advised a warning would be placed on the horse for a poor performance. Mr Mackinnon indicated the stable would now consider the immediate racing future of NEW ARRIVAL. HELLO ANGEL – Raced keenly for a short distance near the 900m. Raced wide for the majority of the event. SEQUACIOUS – Raced wide for the majority of the event. MODELE – After being slow to begin was bumped shortly after by BALTRAY which began awkwardly. PERFECT LEGACY – Raced keenly for a short distance near the 900m. Approaching the 100m shifted in under pressure and brushed with BULLET FORCE. Approaching the winning post when yielding ground, momentarily became awkward at the heels of BULLET FORCE. BULLET FORCE - Raced keenly for a short distance near the 900m. Race 5: GREAT NORTHERN Maiden Handicap 1100 metres DATA PATCH – Taken wider on the track passing the 600m when IDONEUS hung out for a short distance. MOTIVATED MISS – Taken wider on the track passing the 600m when IDONEUS hung out for a short distance. Laid out rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Rider M Harley reported MOTIVATED MISS may not have appreciated today’s firmer track conditions. IDONEUS – Hung out for a short distance passing the 600m. LIGHT UP THE DAWN – Hung out for a short distance passing the 600m. Race 6: KINGSLEY LAWSON LAWYERS Maiden Plate 2170 metres BURN THE BOATS – Bumped at the start. DESTINATION SYDNEY – Near the 2000m momentarily steadied from the heels of DOUBLE OH SEVEN. GOLD SAMURAI – Jumped out at the start and bumped BURN THE BOATS. IL TORO D'ORO – As the horse competed at the SCTC meeting on Dec 4th 2022, underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced wide with cover from the 900m. Performed below market expectations. Jockey L Cassidy advised that, in his opinion, the gelding may not have appreciated the short turn around. Stewards intend to seek comment from Co-trainer J Symons concerning the performance.MASTER OF MENACE – Slow to begin.DOUBLE OH SEVEN – Shifted out marginally near the 2000m momentarily hampering DESTINATION SYDNEY, which had shifted in simultaneously. Finished tailed off.A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer C Zintilis was of the opinion DOUBLE OH SEVEN did not handle the step up in distance today and going forward it would be his intention to limit the horse to races over a shorter distance than that of today. In the circumstances Mr Zintilis was advised a warning would be placed on the horse for a poor performance. M Harley, rider of DOUBLE OH SEVEN, was reprimanded under AR128(2) for leaving the course forwithout Stewards permission. I PREFER MINTIES – Slow to begin. After improving onto heels near the 1000m, shifted out to improve and raced wide for the remainder of the event. SLICK HEELS – Co-trainer G Laine advised it would be the stables intention to have the gelding ridden more forward if circumstances permit. After being caught wide in the early stages was ridden forward from the 1400m to obtain the position outside the leader near 1000m. Dipped at the 1500m crossing. Weakened noticeably from the 800m. When asked to comment on tactics adopted rider M Castle reported instructions were to lead if possible, however SLICK HEELS was unable to muster speed in the early and middle stages. After viewing the patrol footage apprentice Castle agreed with Stewards that a better option would have been to attempt to restrain and settle behind IL TORO D’ORO rather than be caught three and four wide in the early and middle stages. Co-trainer G Lane advised the horse may not have appreciated the firmer track conditions and would look to freshen SLICK HEELS going forward. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Mr Lane was advised a warning would be placed on the horse for a poor performance. Race 7: IPSWICH EVENTS & ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE BENCHMARK 58 Handicap 1100 metres CORONEL – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight before shifting in. DOCTOR JACK – Raced wide for the majority of the event. MARTINI DANCER – Began awkwardly. Entering the home straight obliged to steady from heels before shifting out to improve. Raced wide for the majority of the event. Performed disappointingly. Jockey G Cartwright advised that, in her opinion, being posted wide throughout was a telling factor in the finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. STARS 'N' RICHES – Bumped with ZEELUCK over the concluding stages. ALEXANDRA ROAD – Rider T Harrison reported when place under pressure leaving the 500m the horse failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing.Finished tailed off.A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M Palmer was advised a warning would be placed on the horse for a poor performance. ZEELUCK – Slow to begin. Bumped with STARS ‘N’ RICHES over the concluding stages.
