THURSDAY 23 MARCH 2023

WEATHER – Fine   TRACK RATING – Good (4)       RAIL – +3M Entire
PENETROMETER – 5.1

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – J. Adams
Stewards – R. Hanson, A. Schofield, D. McMahon, O. Legg
Clerk of Scales – S. Byatt
Judge – M. Lincoln, K. Schramm
Veterinarian – Dr G. Cavanagh
Swab Attendants – K. Kilpatrick, J. Crompton
Starter – D. Jones, C. Wallace

Race 1: FOLLOW @IPSWICHTURFCLUB QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 800 metres

LOST IN TRANSIT – Began awkwardly, shifted in abruptly and bumped BELLE JUMENT. Laid out under pressure in the straight.

A LEVEL – Slow to begin.

BELLE JUMENT – Hampered on jumping by LOST IN TRANSIT. Jockey M. Du Plessis reported that the filly felt awkward in its action. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

MAGURO – Began awkwardly.

RUSSIAN PINS – Had to be resaddled on arrival at the barriers.

LAGUNA DE CHICABEL – Bumped on jumping away.

Race 2: THE BARN FAMILY RESTAURANT Class 1 Handicap 1680 metres

CORDYCEPS MIRACLE – Over raced early stages. Jockey D. Thornton commented at scale that the gelding may benefit from application of blinkers.

JAZZ – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. When Stewards enquired into the tactics adopted by apprentice T. Townsend, in the presence of senior rider S. Collett, Ms Townsend stated that she was instructed to ride her mount neutral and where comfortable, and that she should not overly restrain the mare. She added that after urging her mount in the early stages she looked to take up a position at the rear of the field but as the pace slacked at the 1500m, she found herself trapped three wide and being mindful of instructions to not overly restrain her mount as it has a tendency to over race, she elected to travel where the mare was comfortable. Stewards were of the opinion that, after jockey D. Thornton, rider of CORDYCEPS MIRACLE, elected to take up a rearward position in the early stages, Miss Townsend should have made greater effort to ease her mount to obtain cover, rather than travel three wide for the entirety of the event. Stewards advised Ms Townsend to not be so single minded when interpreting riding instructions to give her mount the best possible chance of finishing off the race.

EASIER SAID – Fractious in the barriers.

ZATTASTAR – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on the entering home straight until approaching the 100m.

BIG TICKET BOY – Jockey J. Huxtable reported at scale that the gelding hung out throughout the event.
.

He added that the gelding may now be looking for further. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

THATFRIDAYFEELING (NZ) – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that THATFRIDAYFEELING will be ridden further forward if possible. Slow to begin and bumped with GALIFIANAKIS, and settled at the rear of the field. Passing the 100m was allowed to stride forward in an attempt to improve but in doing so, SAINT MARTIN improved to it’s inside resulting in THATFRIDAYFEELING racing three wide for the remainder of the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer Mr M. Lakey was advised that THATFRIDAYFEELING will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
