GENERAL

Jockey R. Maloney pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR218(4)(b) in that he did take into the Male Jockeys’ Room, his mobile phone following the commencement of the meeting, which was subsequently located by Stewards. Jockey Maloney was subsequently fined $300. In assessing the matter, Stewards noted that following an examination of Jockey Maloney’s phone, that they could be comfortably satisfied it had not been used throughout the meeting, and it had been a genuine oversight on Jockey Maloney’s behalf. Jockey Maloney was advised of his rights to an appeal.


Race 1: TAB IPSWICH TICKETS ON SALES QTIS 3yo MAIDEN HANDICAP (800m)

BOLD TEE - Apprentice C. Sutherland dropped his whip near the 200m. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

DENMAN AVENUE – Bumped on jumping. Shifted out and bumped THE JEAN GINA near the 700m before shifting in and bumping MARATHIA.

LOPE BY NIGHT – Began awkwardly.

MR PLAYTIME – Bumped on jumping before being crowded between runners. Shifted in when not fully clear of ROCK ME MAMA near the 600m. Jockey T Marshall was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Momentarily held up for clear-running rounding the home-turn.

ROCK ME MAMA – Began awkwardly and bumped the barrier petition before blundering and losing ground. Improved onto heels having to be steadied near the 600m, before commencing to race keenly for a short distance thereafter. Hung-out under pressure in the home straight. Trainer J. Dunn was advised a warning would be placed on the filly for its racing manners.

THE JEAN GINA – Bumped near the 700m when DENMAN AVENUE shifted out.

MARATHIA – Began very awkwardly and blundered before bumping. Bumped near the 700m when DENMAN AVENUE shifted in. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, and became awkwardly placed on the heels of BOLD TEE near the 150m.

SHE’S GOT IT – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid out under pressure rounding the home turn and in the home straight.

WANTCHOO – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey N. Tomizawa advised that the filly failed to display its customary early speed and as such was posted wide throughout, adding further that the filly is best suited when able to obtain a forward position in running, both of which were telling factors in the performance. Stable representative Mr P. Martin concurred with Jockey Tomizawa’s assessment. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.


Race 2: IPSWICH PARTY HIRE MAIDEN PLATE (800m)

SHAQUE D’AMOUR – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

ZIMBARA – Began very awkwardly. Laid out for the majority. Momentarily crowded passing the winning post.

MR HANDLEY- Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

LOVE TO ALL – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.


Race 3: VINCE INSURANCE CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1100m)

LUVARCHIE – Shifted in near the 1000m when not fully clear of LADY INVADER. Jockey C Graham was reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident. Raced keenly for a short distance thereafter.

A LOT OF BOOTY – Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced keenly in the early stages. Blundered near the 400m. Shifted out and around heels to obtain clear running near the 150m and bumped CAXTON LASS, bumping that runner again near the 100m and the 50m when shifting out further from the heels of LA FAST TYCOON.

LA FAST TYCOON – Held-up for clear running rounding the home tun. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-foreleg. Trainer J. Bruce was advised a clearance would be required prior to the gelding again being permitted to race.

SCRIPT WRITER – Bumped on jumping.

GRAND CRUSADER – Began awkwardly before being buffeted on jumping. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey J. Lloyd advised that his mount had begun only fairly and as such was unable to obtain a forward position which was detrimental to its finishing efforts, however nonetheless disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

LADY INVADER – Bumped on jumping. Laid in during the early stages. Obliged to shift in away from heels near the 1000m and raced keenly for a short distance thereafter. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice C. Vitler advised that his mount had been inclined to lay out throughout the event and had proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer L. Hatch advised that the intention would be for the stable veterinarian to examine the mare in the coming days and undertook to advise Stewards should anything become apparent. A post-race veterinarian examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.

SO BRIGHT – Bumped on jumping.

CAXTON LASS – Bumped near the 150m and again near the 100m and 50m when A LOT OF BOOTY attempted to shift out to obtain clear running.

MIGHTY JUDD – Raced wide from the 600m.


Race 4: THE SHED COMPANY MAIDEN HANDICAP (1700m)

MARAVICH – Began awkwardly and bumped.

FLAMING GENESIS – Raced wide in the early stages before settling outside the leader near the 1100m.

SHABOOH SHALAA – Raced wide from the 600m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages before shifting in when not fully clear of I DOUBT IT causing that runner to be steadied. Jockey N. Callow was severely reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident. Jockey Callow was further reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(6)(a) for using his whip forward of the shoulder on one occasion.

CHEERFUL CAT – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid out rounding the home-turn. Laid in over the concluding stages and bumped passing the winning post.

DOWN UNDER STUNNAH – Laid in under pressure in the home straight before becoming awkwardly placed on heels near the 200m, having to be steadied and shifted wider.

SOUTHOFTHEBORDER – Slow to begin and from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Bumped near the 250m with EFFIE’S JOY. Shifted in leaving the 200m crowding the running of EFFIE’S JOY causing that runner to be restrained when buffeted near the 150m. Jockey J Guthman-Chester was severely reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) and advised to exercise far greater care in preventing his mount form shifting ground in similar circumstances.

DON’T STOP ME NOW – Raced wide in the early stages before being ridden forward near the 1400m and settling into a leading position along the inside running rail leaving the 1300m. Bumped heavily on the hindquarters when EFFIE’S JOY was crowded between runners becoming unbalanced near the 150m before being held up for clear running over the final stages.

EFFIE’S JOY – Began very awkwardly and shifted in. Over-raced near the 1400m and continued to race keenly for some distance before improving onto heels near the 600m having to be restrained. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Bumped near the 250m with SOUTHOFTHEBORDER. Raced in restricted room from the 200m before being heavily buffeted near the 150m when SOUTHOFTHEBORDER attempted to shift in having to be restrained.

PEAR BELLINI – The C. Waller stable advised it would be the intention for the filly to settle further forward if circumstances permitted. Settled on-pace. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages and bumped passing the winning post.

I DOUBT IT – Raced keenly near the 1400m. Obliged to steady when crowded over the concluding stages when SHABOOH SHALAA shifted in and was unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages.

NEO VICI – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Weakened from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.


Race 5: TAB BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1700m)

THE CATCH – Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

FAIRWAY CHOICE – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

TAMBOURINE MAN – Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward near the 1300m and settling into a forward position near the 1200m.

NAVILLUS HELLFIRE – When Jockey L. Tarrant was delayed arriving on course due to transport difficulties, Stewards permitted Jockey J Lloyd to be declared the rider of the mare. Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Jockey J. Lloyd pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out to the finish, which in the Stewards’ opinion, compromised his mount’s chances of finishing fifth. Jockey Lloyed was fined the sum of $300. In considering the matter, Stewards noted Jockey Lloyd’s guilty plea and forthright evidence. Jockey Lloyd was advised of his right to an appeal.

BAVARIAN LADY – Raced keenly on heels for some distance near the 700m.


Race 6: GORDON’S GIN RATINGS BAND 0-58 HANDICAP (1700m)

DO IT FOR YOU – Bumped on jumping. Held up for clear running rounding the home-turn and early stages of the home straight before being shifted in and again being held up for clear running for some distance until leaving the 100m. Obliged to steady from the heels of JORUM and shift in soon after passing the winning post.

JETPACK VERDI – Bumped on jumping. Bumped approaching the 400m with SEA TREASURES. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.

KELLERS SHELTER – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.

SEA TREASURES – Bumped on jumping. Bumped approaching the 400m with JETPACK VERDI.

CHANCES WITH WOLVES – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Doomben on Wednesday, 19 March 2025 and was cleared to start. Raced keenly for some distance passing the 300m. Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn.

OPTIMUS MAXIMUS – Tightened for room when DO IT FOR YOU was directed inwards and obliged to shift in soon after passing the winning post.

LIZZIE’S PRIDE – Began awkwardly and bumped.

CRAIGLEA LA VIE – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly for some distance near the 1200m. Tightened for room and obliged to check passing the winning post when becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of OPTIMUS MAXIMUS which was directed inwards by DO IT FOR YOU which in turn had been directed inwards by JORUM.

BILPA MOREA – Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Took the 1500m course proper crossing awkwardly. Raced keenly for a short distance thereafter. Jockey M. Wishart pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she did use her whip on 9 occasions prior to the 100m, and 13 times in totality throughout the event. Jockey Wishart’s license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 7 days, commencing Monday, 31 March 2025, up to and including Sunday, 6 April 2025. In considering the matter Stewards noted the totality of Jockey Wishart’s whip use as well as the QRIC Whip Penalty Guidelines. Jockey Wishart was advised of her rights to an appeal.

JORUM – Bumped on jumping. Jockey A Jones was found guilty of a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding, in that she did permit her mount to shift in passing the winning post, directing DO IT FOR YOU into the line of OPTIMUS MAXIMUS which in turn was directed into the line of CRAIGLEA LA VIE which was tightened for room and obliged to restrain. Jockey Jones’ license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing Sunday, 30 March 2025, up to and including Sunday 6 April 2025. In assessing the matter, Stewards considered the severity of interference and degree of carelessness, Jockey Jones’ not guilty plea and record in relation to the rule. Jockey Jones was advised of her rights to an appeal.


Race 7: THE INDUSTRY SCHOOL FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1350m)

STRONG MARTINI – Eased down over the concluding stages. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice J. McMurray advised that mare proved disappointing, and that he was of the opinion something may have been amiss over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

PITAVAGO – Bumped soon after the start. Raced wide from the 900m.

SHAPIN POWER – Took charge of Jockey R. Wiggins en-route to the barriers before galloping a full circuit of the track. Underwent a veterinary examination and was subsequently declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4:42pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, all monies invested on the mare were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 4:42pm:

17 cents in the dollar for the win
13 cents in the dollar for place on the winner
16 cents in the dollar for second place
13 cents in the dollar for third place

Trainer A. Plumb was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s record for its pre-race behaviour.

CHEMIOSMOSIS – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

GRACIE BLUE – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

MONOPOLY GIRL – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

QUALITY MISS – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

CRYPTIC SOUND – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

ELLE MAGIC – Bumped soon after the start. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

DUCHESS BREE- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Toowoomba on Saturday, 15 March 2025 and was cleared to start. Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer S. Murdoch was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners as a result.


Race 8: GIBSON ARCHITECTS COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1350m)

JUNGLE FEVER - Began awkwardly and bumped.

TOBA – Bumped before being crowded on jumping.

CLUBHOUSE – Slow to begin before being bumped. Over-raced for some distance leaving the 1100m.

NOTACLUEHOWORWHO – Became awkwardly placed on heels having to be steadied soon after the start.

WARRIOR HEAD – Slow to begin and bumped. Shifted in marginally away from heels near the 1100m and bumped on several occasions until the 1000m when racing tight with BAUHAUS. Apprentice D. McGillivray pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) in that leaving the 1000m, he did permit his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BAUHAUS, which was dictated inwards into the line of BIRAQUE, which was tightened for room and obliged to check when losing its rightful running. Apprentice McGillivray’s license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 16 days, commencing Monday 31 March 2025 up to and including Tuesday 15 April 2025. In considering the matter, Stewards noted Apprentice McGillivray’s apprentice status, guilty plea, poor record in relation to the rule and severity of interference and degree of carelessness. Apprentice McGillivray was advised of his rights to an appeal. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice McGillivray advised that the gelding only travelled fairly throughout the event, and proved disappointing when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. The Sears stable subsequently reported that on return to the stable, that the gelding was displaying some muscle soreness behind, and would now be spelled. Trainer T. Sears was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again.

BAUHAUS – Bumped on jumping. Raced in restricted room between the 1100m to 1000m, bumping on several occasions with WARRIOR HEAD and BIRAGUE. Tightened for room and dictated in when WARRIOR HEAD shifted in having to be steadied leaving the 1000m.

MYSTERY POWER – Shifted in marginally near the 1100m before being quickly corrected by its rider.

STORMTROOPER – Began awkwardly.

BEE EXACT – Bumped on jumping.

LISSARO – Held-up for clear running for some distance passing the 200m.

BIRAGUE – Began awkwardly. Bumped several times between the 1000m-900m. Tightened for room and obliged to check leaving the 1000m when BAUHAUS was directed inwards.
