SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
From Wednesday 1/5/2024 PERSEVERE – Co Trainer L. Peoples has advised that post race the gelding had swelling to both eyes and is currently being treated.
 
GENERAL
 
Following a race day inspection by QRIC Stewards of the stables of L. Gersekowski, Stewards inquired into recent treatments of her stable runners. After interviewing her regarding this matter, Stewards noted the circumstances tendered by Mrs Gersekowski and were satisfied to permit her runners to start. Samples were taken for analysis.
 
As Apprentice Z. Sprie was unable to make the allocated weight in Race 10, Stewards permitted him to be replaced by Apprentice S. Willis. Apprentice Z. Sprie was fined $100 pursuant to AR 190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight.
 
Race 1: JOHN SPILLANE MAIDEN PLATE 1500M
 
ITALIAN VIRTUOSO – Laid out slightly approaching the finishing line.
 
MORE THAN XTRA – Began awkwardly.
 
READY TO THUNDER – Restrained from a wide barrier to a position closer to the rail.
 
NAVILLUS BUDDY – Buffeted between runners shortly after jumping when FULL OF EURO was taken wider by MORE THAN XTRA.
 
PETERMAN – Bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.
 
PUNJABI LANDING – Trainer P. Shailer was reprimanded pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time. Slow to begin and then hampered between runners.
 
SOUTHERN WITNESS – Hampered on jumping.
 
PRIDE AN' JOY – Raced wide throughout.
 
CATHAY BRACELET (NZ) – Bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start. Raced wide early. Laid in slightly approaching the finishing line.
 
RED DECEPTION – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Improved onto heels leaving the straight on the first occasion and was obliged to steady.
 
 
Race 2: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO. RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1500M
 
GOLD MERCHANT – Held up for clear running for a short distance near the 400m.
 
HUSSONHOFF – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MORDECAI – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
METSI – Held up for a short distance passing the 400m.
 
SARODEC – After beginning well from the wide barrier was permitted to stride forward after being caught wide and obtain the lead near the 1000m.
 
CLEAR BLONDE – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice C. Collis stated his mount failed to travel throughout the event and did not respond to his riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
ENTERPRISE SUCCESS – Near the 1300m, steadied from heels and shifted out. Raced wide for the majority.
 
SKILLED ARTIST – Over raced during the middle stages.
 
ALERT AND READY – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
EPAUVESCENT – Made the crossing at near the 1200m awkwardly and then raced ungenerously until near the 1000m.
 
 
Race 3: KILCOY DIGGERS CUP RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1500M
 
DWINDLING SPIRIT – Stewards declared DWINDLING SPIRIT a late scratching at 11:30am due to transport issues.
 
SABIE PARK (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted out. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hindleg. Trainer A. Park was advised SABIE PARK (NZ) would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
BORN TO BE ALIVE – Raced wide for the majority. Inclined to lay in throughout the event.
 
WHAT'S UP HONEY – Fractious in the barriers. Raced wide throughout.
 
MISHANI SUPREME – Hampered on jumping and lost ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have bled from both nostrils on the second occasion. Trainer J. Bellamy was advised MISHANI SUPREME would now incur a lifetime ban from racing under AR 79(6).
 
LIVINGSTONES – Stewards acceded to a late gear request by stable representative D. Barron for Trainer P. Barron to have the cross-over noseband removed, as it has trialled recently without this gear and had performed poorly with it on at its previous race start wearing a cross-over noseband. Trainer P. Barron was fined $200 for pursuant to AR 206 for the late gear change. Trainer P. Barron advised Stewards of a change of tactics that LIVINGSTONES would be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Settled off the speed.
 
GLENGARRY – Shifted out on jumping.
 
WHEN DOVES FLY – Became unbalanced when making the crossing at the 1200m.
 
HELEN'S DREAM – Hampered between runners on jumping and lost ground.
 
 
Race 4: GRAEME LEHMANN HAPPY RETIREMENT MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200M
 
KOBE ASCOT – Jockey K. Matheson was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out over the concluding stages of the event.
 
LIKE SMOKE – Slow to begin.
 
WANTS TO BOOGIE – Steadied from the heels of MAPLE MAGIC shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.
 
INSPIRATIONAL DIVA – Trainer D. Vandyke advised Stewards of a change of tactics that INSPIRATIONAL DIVA would be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Ridden accordingly.
 
MAPLE MAGIC – Shifted in after the start. Steadied from the heels of KOBE ASCOT near the 900m when that runner shifted out.
 
ROCK LOBSTER – Jockey D. Smith was reminded of his obligations to ride his mount out over the concluding stages of the event.
 
MISS WEDNESDAY – Raced in restricted room near the 750m.
 
VADAMOON (NZ) – Apprentice S. Willis reported at scale that her mount raced greenly throughout the event and informed connections that in her opinion that the mare may benefit from the addition of blinkers.
 
EASILY AMUSED – Slow to begin. Apprentice P. Carter was reprimanded AR 143(14)(a) for failing to claim her full allowance.
 
 
Race 5: PAUL DOLAN QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1200M
 
GALWAY HUSSLER – Fractious in the barriers. Raced keenly near the 700m.
 
IT'S RAINING AGAIN – Began moderately then was hampered and lost ground. Momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
KING OF THE JUNGLE – Fractious in the barriers. Began awkwardly and shifted out. Raced in restricted room and was buffeted when O’POLLY was taken in by MASTERPLAN.
 
SLIPPIN' JIMMY – Fractious in the barriers. Bumped near the 850m. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
O'POLLY – Near the 850m, taken in when awkwardly placed at the heels of MASTERPLAN and bumped with KING OF THE JUNGLE. Jockey B. Stewart rider of MASTERPLAN was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this incident. Raced wide. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey G. Cartwright stated that she was obliged to race wide, however, her mount never felt comfortable where it was positioned and failed to respond to her riding when under pressure from the 600m and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SONO PRONTO – Momentarily steadied from heels near the 1000m. Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its near foreleg. Trainer K. Schweida was advised SONO PRONTO would require a veterinary clearance prior to resuming.
 
CRESSBROOK – Raced wide for the majority. Near the 700m, steadied from heels when over racing and raced wide for the remainder of the event. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 6: THANKS BRIBIE ISLAND RSL CLUB COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200M
 
FLASH ZARIZ – Buffeted between runners on jumping and lost ground.
 
ANARCHY – Bumped on jumping. Leaving the 900m, raced in restricted room for a short distance and bumped with HOOKS (NZ) which was taken in by PABALLO. Apprentice P. Carter, rider of PABALLO was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.
 
PRINCE OF DIAMONDS – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
HOOKS (NZ) – Began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping with FLASH ZARIZ and becoming unbalanced. Leaving the 900m, was taken in slightly and steadied from the heels of PABALLO. Laid in during the early part of the home straight.
 
TECOMA STREET – Raced wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying clinical signs of the thumps.
 
HOLY TROJAN – Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
MORE MAX – Raced wide throughout.
 
DIAMOND FLYER – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with FLASH ZARIZ.
 
 
Race 7: KILCOY EXCHANGE HOTEL COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200M
 
KUZCO LAD – Improved onto the heels of DUSKY DANCER approaching the finishing line.
 
SLY CORNER (NZ) – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
BELLE'S BOY – Taken wider rounding the home turn when PRINCE OF SOOVIEW shifted out to improve.
 
CRAZY EYED FRED – Raced wide.
 
LITTLE SHOW – Began awkwardly. Near the 800m, had to be steadied from PRINCE OF SOOVIEW which shifted in.
 
NEARA REWARD – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
BIGGIE – Near the 700m, laid in and bumped with EARLSTON. Raced wide.
 
CLAUDIUS – Raced wide. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice S. Willis stated could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
EARLSTON – Near the 700m, bumped on the hind quarters and became unbalanced when BIGGIE laid in. Raced wide.

 
Race 8: SEARLES GARDEN PRODUCTS FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1200M
 
SCUD – Held up approaching the home turn.
 
COURT WHISPERS – When asked to comment on today’s performance, Apprentice C. Graham stated that she was obliged to race wide from the 800m and that in her opinion, her mount did not feel comfortable on today’s tighter turning track.
 
GIDGET – Approaching the 600m, commenced to over race and improved onto the heels of ROAR HIDE. Approaching the home turn, shifted in slightly.
 
FLYING TYROL – Raced wide.
 
TOO MUCH MAKEUP – Approaching the home turn momentarily steadied when GIDGET shifted in slightly. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
GERTIE GOER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up approaching the home turn.
 
PRESS LIGHTLY – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 9: SOMERSET REGIONAL COUNCIL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 800M
 
FASTHEARTBEAT – Shortly after the start, laid out brushing with ISLAND TIDE. Shortly thereafter, shifted in bumping with MAGIC TALENT. Raced wide. When asked to comment on today’s performance, Jockey G. Cartwright stated that when her mount was unable to find any early speed to cross the inside runners and settled further back than anticipated. She added that the gelding resented the kickback from today’s track and in her opinion, would be more suited to races over further distance.
 
XERRI – Laid in on entering the home straight, bumping with SAY WHEN SUTTY. Raced wide.
 
EVELYN'S JOY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide.
 
FROZEN MISS – Shortly after the start was bumped on the hind quarters and became unbalanced when MAGIC TALENT was buffeted and taken inwards. Held up rounding the home turn. Approaching the 100m, improved onto the heels of SAY WHEN SUTTY and was obliged to shift across heels to secure clear running.
 
SAY WHEN SUTTY – Began very awkwardly, momentarily unbalancing its rider. Raced wide. Bumped by XERRI when that runner laid in on entering the home straight.
 
SIDE SHOW SALLY – Declared a late scratching at 3:38pm on Stewards advice after harmlessly dislodging rider S. Collett and galloping riderless for a significant distance. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all successful bets placed on SIDE SHOW SALLY be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st – JUST LOOKING – 3c win, 3c place.
2nd – ISLAND TIDE – 3c place
3rd – XERRI – 3c place
 
MAGIC TALENT – Shortly after the start was buffeted between runners when FASTHEARTBEAT shifted in after initially brushing with ISLAND TIDE.
 
CURRY LEGEND – Raced wide.
 
 
Race 10: LADBROKES BLACKBOOK BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 2076 M
 
VIADELAMORE (IRE) – Momentarily had difficulty obtaining clear running rounding the home turn.
 
BRAVE BOY – Trainer C. Zintilis advised Stewards of a change of tactics and BRAVE BOY would be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Began moderately and was unable to occupy a forward position. Near the 1300m, raced in restricted room when LYNDALL was taken in by TURN TABLE.
 
VACATION LEAVE – Raced wide early.
 
ROYAL GEORGE – Near the 1300m, raced in restricted room when LYNDALL was taken in by TURN TABLE.
 
THE WELLIAN – Slow to begin. Near the 1900m, obliged to steady from the heels of WILLNOTQUIT (NZ) which shifted in. Jockey T. Thornton, rider of WILLNOTQUIT (NZ) was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding. Near the 1500m, momentarily raced in restricted room.
 
WILLNOTQUIT (NZ) – Over raced in the early stages.
 
PATTI WAGGIN – Began awkwardly. Raced wide until near the 800m.
 
LYNDALL – Slow to begin. Raced wide. Near the 1300m, raced in restricted room when TURN TABLE shifted in. Left a rearward trailing position near the 800m and permitted to stride forward. Rounding the home turn, laid in under pressure. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance, trainer P. Barron stated that LYNDALL did not handle the heavy track at the Sunshine Coast on 12 April 2024 and at the most recent run, was not suited to the Gold Coast Poly track on 27 April 2024. P. Barron added that the mare had been working well leading up to today’s race and felt that a return to a more suitable surface and a step up in distance had contributed to the performance.
 
TURN TABLE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide. Near the 1300m laid in.
 
VAIN LUKE – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying signs of heat stress.
