McKINLAY RACE CLUB – SATURDAY 18TH JUNE 2016

Race 1: Curly Cattle Transport Maiden Plate 800 metres:
1st – SMART CRAFT 2nd – LACH’S POCKET 3rd – YARD GLASS 4th – ENTRADAS

HOOFBEATS – Began awkwardly.

Shortly after the start YARD GLASS (Jockey D Ballard) shifted in despite the efforts of it’s rider and made heavy contact with LACH’S POCKET (Jockey T Brummell) who then shifted into the running of ENTRADAS (Jockey K Ballard) who was hampered and lost ground as a consequence.

ENTRADAS – The outside barrier gate came back onto the filly on jumping.

Race 2: IOR Petroleum Benchmark 60 Handicap 1400 metres:
1st – OLLIE RUNS RIOT 2nd – HE’S A MAGICIAN 3rd – WHAT THE HECK 4th – REQUIREMENT

BORN TO FIRE – Bounded in the air as the start was effected.

REQUIREMENT – Began awkwardly.

OLLIE RUNS RIOT – Raced wide without cover throughout.

WHAT THE HECK – Jockey T Brummell reported the outside barrier gate came back and hit the gelding on jumping. Following the running of this race Stewards undertook to have the Starter rectify the barrier gate which was bouncing back after opening.

Race 3: Eloise Copper Mine QTIS Class 2 Handicap 1200 metres:
1st – DREAMWARD BOUND 2nd – NO DELAY 3rd – OMEGA 4th – LARABEE

DOOM CITY DRAGON – Raced wide without cover throughout.

YANCHA BOY – Rounding the home turn the gelding broke down in the right fore leg and was immediately pulled out of the race. Upon veterinary examination the gelding was found to have fractured its cannon bone. Acting on humane grounds the gelding was euthanised. A post mortem sample was taken.

BAY DUKE – Rounding the home turn clipped the heels of a broken down runner and blundered. The gelding was eased out of the race after sustaining an injury to its knee. Trainer Mr K Krogh advised Stewards the gelding would be immediately retired from racing. Notwithstanding this advice Stewards advised Mr Krogh the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to racing again.

Race 4: Linfox Benchmark 45 Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – RAPID QUALO 2nd – SETH 3rd – FLAMINGO ROSE 4th – RIVERS END

HIMALAYAN WOLF – Shifted out shortly after the start making contact with another runner. Hit the running rail on two occasions passing the 750 metres while racing greenly. Upon return to scale Jockey K Aho reported that the mare was having it’s first start on the dirt and did not handle the conditions. Jockey Aho also reported that when the mare hit the running rail she sustained an injury to her right foot. Ambulance officers assessed Jockey Aho and cleared her to fulfil her remaining engagements.

NICABELLE – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start.

RAPID QUALO – Shifted out shortly after the start making contact with another runner.

FLAMINGO ROSE – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start.

SETH – Blundered at the start.

COWARDOFTHECOUNTY – Held up in the early part of the straight and had to be shifted wider on the track to obtain clear running.

DIURNAL TIGER – Approaching the 300 metres was disappointed when attempting a narrow run.

Race 5: South 32 McKinlay Cup Open Handicap 1800 metres:
1st – MR PEPPERS 2nd – SHOW US A SMILE 3rd – CASTLE EXPRESS 4th – NEW EMPIRE

NEPTUNE EXPRESS & TIRYNS were late scratchings when neither horse was present on course. Trainers Ms S Gabriel-Royes and Mr R Simpson will be interviewed at a later date regarding the failure to scratch their horses by the required time.

REVEL IN THE CHAOS – Bumped at the start.

MR PEPPERS – Bumped at the start. Jockey B Thomson accidentally dropped her whip passing the 250 metres.

Race 6: Brodie Hardware Open Handicap 1000 metres:

This race was abandoned due to the deterioration of track conditions and incoming rain.
