QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MCKINLAY RACE CLUB MCKINLAY – SATURDAY 24th JUNE 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK – Dirt RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P. Zadow GENERAL NIL Race 1: CURLEY CATTLE TRANSPORT Maiden Plate 1000 metres COLONEL VON TRAPP – Slow into stride. GREAT IAM – Slow to begin. ORCUS – Fractious in the barriers and jumped away very awkwardly and as a result was slow to muster early speed. Raced wide rounding the home turn. SENKO – Contacted by ZOUFIRE shortly after the start. Raced wide for the majority. ZOUFIRE – Shifted out on jumping away and contacted SENKO. Raced wide throughout. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. DON’TSTOPLAUGHING – Jockey A. Bakos reported at scale that her mount put in an awkward stride at 800 m. A post-race veterinary report revealed no visible abnormalities. Race 2: BRODIE AGENCIESRATINGS BAND 0 – 55 Handicap 1500 metres Following the running of Race 2, a delegation of riders expressed concern with a section of track near the 500m that was inconsistent with the remainder of the racing surface. As a consequence, Stewards and a delegation of riders inspected the area of concern. Following this inspection, Stewards after discussing the options with the riding group elected to proceed. FLAMING TORCH (NZ) – Raced wide early. In the vicinity of 1200 m, shifted in, to gain a position against the rail. Became wayward in the home straight when placed under pressure. SHOOT BIG – Raced three wide throughout. Jockey D. Ballard was fined $100 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. SNIPPY STRATEGIC – Slow to begin. ALL AT SEA – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. AKHURST – Slow into stride. Raced wide rounding the home turn. IRON MASK – Raced four wide for the majority. OUR YOUNG MAN – Approaching the 200 m, elected to shift out to gain clear running. Race 3: TOPX CLONCURRY QTIS Class 3 Plate 1200 metres NOT ANOTHER REIBY - Jockey D. Ballard was fined $100 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. HEZAGEM – Hampered at the start by ROYAL TONIC(NZ) who shifted out on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey M. Schrapel was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m. SIZZLING RIVER – Raced wide rounding the home turn. ROYAL TONIC(NZ) – Very awkward to begin and shifted out abruptly on jumping, hampering HEZAGEM. Hung out severely in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary report revealed no visible abnormalities. Trainer Mr K. Krogh was advised that a warning had been placed on the gelding in relation to its pre-race and racing manners. JANOSIK(NZ) – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Race 4: BRODIE HARDWARE CLASS B Handicap 1000 metres Correct weight was delayed to allow jockey D. Ballard the rider of SPOTTED WONDER to view the Stewards patrol footage in the home straight to ascertain if there were grounds for an objection. After declining to do so, correct weight was declared on the judges numbers. SPOTTED WONDER – Raced in the restricted room over the concluding stages when NASA laid in. Jockey D. Ballard was fined $100 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. COUNTRY ROADS – Jockey A. Bakos was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100m. NASA – Awkward to begin and became momentarily unbalanced. Laid in in the straight, inconveniencing SPOTTED WONDER. TABOO – Awkward to begin. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the straight. LADY FREY – Late scratching at 10.25am on Stewards orders under rule AR88B(1). Trainer T. Schofield was advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced prior to the mare completing a barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards and providing a post-trial veterinary clearance prior to racing again. Race 5: OUTBACK RACING SHOWCASE FINAL/ SOUTH 32/ MCKINLAY CUP Open Handicap 1500 metres Correct weight was delayed to allow S. Royes trainer of ZOOMARATTA to view the Stewards patrol footage of the start to ascertain if the gelding had been denied a fair start. Once satisfied correct weight was declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers. DUKES COUNTRY – Shifted out abruptly on jumping and bumped with VIGOROUS FLOW. Raced wide throughout. VIGOROUS FLOW- Bumped on jumping away by DUKES COUNTRY who shifted out abruptly. Laid in under pressure in the straight. ZOOMARATTA – Very awkward to begin. Raced wide without cover for the majority. DANAWI – Slow to begin. MOPAR – Raced wide without cover throughout. Race 6: WARN FENCING AND YARD BUILDING Open Handicap 1000m Due to the ambulance attending an injured patron, the start time of this event was delayed and rescheduled to 4.21pm.This event was delayed approximately 3 more mins after METEROAMA broke through the barrier partition and galloped a short distance with it’s rider prior to being recaptured. On return to the barrier METEROAMA underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start.WICKED WIKI – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after not racing for an extended period of time and cleared to start. Raced wide for the majority.METEORANO – Races three wide during the early and middle stages. DARK ARCHER – Slow to begin. ZUMIKON – Slow to begin. Laid in during the middle stages.
