MISHANI CENTURION – Jockey D Simmons reported that the gelding had raced ungenerously throughout.

Stewards questioned App. M Haley who rode ZINDZELA and Jockey S Watkin who rode ANZUS in relation to the tactics they employed when contesting the lead in the early and middle stages. Both Jockeys stated that they were instructed to ride positively and go forward. App. Haley stated that it was his intention to lead but ZINDZELA had refused to settle and raced fiercely after being challenged for the lead near the 800 metres and, as a consequence, was unable to finish off the race as expected. Jockey Watkin explained that once ANZUS had got on level terms with ZINDZELA the gelding had commenced to over-race from the 800 metres for some considerable distance, despite his attempts to get it to settle, resulting in a stronger than desirable tempo, which was detrimental to the chances of both horses. The trainers of both horses confirmed the instructions.
