QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MILES RACE CLUB SATURDAY 12 FEBRUARY 2022 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 3- DIRT/SAND RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – T PrestonStewards – D KerwickClerk of Scales – B MooreJudge – M McKellar, S FergusonVeterinarian – Dr H OliverSwab Attendants – Dr H OliverStarter – J HarveyPhoto finish Operator- J Moody GENERAL The Miles & District Amateur Picnic Race Club Inc. had advised RQ and QRIC that they were not being able to meet the restrictions placed on them at the time and therefore, made the decision to make this event a Patron Free day with no bookmakers being present and no betting was available for this meeting. Due to current Covid Restrictions the following overweight allowances were approved by Stewards. Race 1- Jky Shane McGovern +1.0kg. Race 3- Jky Nathan Fazackerley +.5kg. Race 1: MILES IGA BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1300 metres FITZROY BOY- slow to begin, travelled wide during the early stages, hung out over the final stages. MORE THAN LIKELY- slow to begin, on returning to scale Jockey P Randall advised Stewards that his barrier had failed to open at the same time as the other runners. Stewards heard evidence from Jockey Randall and Trainer Mr W Baker and after viewing the video surveillance footage available to them, acting under AR204 (1)(b) subsequently declared the Mare a Non- Runner. As Stewards were satisfied that all other runners in the event were afforded a fair start and not involved in the incident correct weight was declared. As the Club had earlier declared this meeting a public free day due to their inability to meeting the Covid restrictions in place at the time. No Bookmakers were betting on the Meeting, therefore no deductions applied. KOTA FLYER- Approaching the 800m point raced in restricted room for a short distance. FOX ON THE ROCKS- travelled wide with no cover for the majority. STRIVE TO SUCCEED- began well but lost ground from the 900m, got well back from that point, approaching the 400m travelled wide with no cover for the remainder. Stewards’ questions Appr Teh. In relation to her riding tactics, she advised the horse wasn’t comfortable with the kick back and the conditions today, her shift out from the 400m point was to improve her position and, in an attempt, to avoid the kick back. Stewards noted her explanation. BOLD ADMIRAL- made contact with the inside running rail leaving the 400m. Jky S McGovern advised Stewards that his mount had travelled well until that point, after hitting the rail it seemed to change stride and lost some ground. Stewards noted his explanation. Race 2: MURILLA FOODWORKS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200 metres BELTANA- was slow to begin. SUNSOUTGUNSOUT- was slow to begin, tailed off from the 1000m after beginning well. Began to improve from the 400m point travelling extremely wide over the final stages and finished off the event strongly. VOIGHT- travelled three-wide for the majority, ran on strongly over the final stages. MADAM TESS- slow to begin, travelled wide for the majority. Race 3: MURILLA CUP OPEN Handicap 1200 metres FABS COWBOY- was slow to begin. HANOVER SQUARE- slow to begin, travelled four- wide with no cover for the majority of the event. KAPPY CINO- began awkwardly, travelled wide for the majority then, shifted out from the 400m to improve and then travelled extremely wide shortly after entering the home straight.. SILENT FLYER- Stewards spoke with Appr J Golden in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance by the gelding. Appr Golden stated that the horse travelled well until approaching the 600m when despite his urgings to go forward it failed to improve. Stewards spoke with stable representative Mr M Hicks who advised the run was disappointing today as he expected a forward showing. He later said the horse did pull up well but he would recommend to Trainer N King the horse be spelled. CHEESIE- began awkwardly, travelled three-wide with no cover for the majority. Race 4: QUEENSLAND HOTEL Class B Handicap 1200 metres ZUIICHI- slow to begin, travelled four-wide for the majority of the event. TERRE DI BACCIO- travelled three-wide with no cover for the majority of the race. WHOSTOPPEDTHERAIN- the start of the event was delayed due to the horse being difficult to load. Began slowly and failed to go the early speed and was tailed off during the early stages of the event and remained there for the majority until approaching the 400m point where it began to improve and finished the race off strongly. Stewards spoke with Trainer P Rice in relation to the horse’s barrier manners. Stewards heard a submission from Mr Rice and accepted the advice from the Starter J Harvey that the barrier staff are inexperienced. Acting under AR75(1)(b) Stewards placed a Warning on the horse. Race 5: JOHN MULLINS MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 60 Handicap 1500metres RINVIATA- began awkwardly. ROYAL SHEEN- began awkwardly, when leaving the 400m the horse failed to respond to vigour of the rider. Stewards spoke with Appr O Kendall regarding the seemingly disappointing performance of the Gelding today. Ms Kendall advised the horse did not feel right in its action today and he did pull up quickly after the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery, laboured breathing with mucus coming from its nostrils an early indication the horse may have a chest infection. Stewards acting under AR75(2)(b) advised Trainer B Johnson the horse would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again. AVOCA- knuckled shortly after the start, lost some ground, travelled wide during the early stages with no cover, forced wider by another runner when approaching the 1200m turn, travelled wide with cover during the middle stages of the event. NOT LIABLE- began awkwardly, despite the efforts of the rider the gelding began to hang out and over race at the 1200m just prior to the turn forcing AVOCA out wide. MAXIMUM HUSTLE- began awkwardly. SHINING BLUE- after entering the home straight, travelled wide for the remainder.
