CORDIALE - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

HIDDEN DAISY - Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.

TOO SHINERS - When questioned Jockey J. Felix reported that, after being crowded for room at the start, his mount never responded to his vigorous urgings throughout the early and middle stages, and when he felt that something may have been amiss with the mare he restrained it out of the race. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer J. Manzelmann was told that a veterinary certificate of fitness must be produced and that the mare must perform competitively in a trial before being permitted to race again.

Barnham), which was taken inwards onto AMBER'S GIRL (Jockey D. Simmons), resulting in that runner shifting in towards SAGALETZ CI (Apprentice N. Summers), which had to be steadied.

STAR FURY - Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.

BOO BOO SNITZEL - A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which failed to stretch out and took no competitive part in the race, revealed that the gelding was displaying soreness in the back. Trainer J. Manzelmann was told that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding racing again.

Race 4: Bank of Queensland Class 3 Plate - 1300 metres
1st CHOSEN SON 2nd - HOYWEDGE 3rd RACING HARADA 4th - BARON REES

The start was delayed when SON OF A WARRIOR (Apprentice C. Jokic) got its head under the front gate of the barriers and became cast. DASH OF WIZZARD (Jockey A. Butler), which was in an adjoining barrier also became fractious. It was ordered that all horses be removed from the barriers to enable some remedial work to be done on the front barrier gates. SON OF A WARRIOR and DASH OF WIZZARD were examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and both were late withdrawals, at 2.28 p.m. Stewards ordered that all money invested on those 2 horses be refunded and that the following deductions apply:

25¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, CHOSEN SON
28¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, CHOSEN SON
23¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, HOYWEDGE
24¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, RACING HARADA

The start was further delayed when stewards ordered the starting officials to test the barriers on two occasions. Following that testing, it was determined that barrier 6 would not be used for the remainder of the day, due to a mechanical fault. Trainer D. Schultz was told that prior to racing again SON OF A WARRIOR would have to obtain a further barrier certificate before being permitted to race again.

BEYOND - Threw its head up on jumping. When questioned regarding the poor performance of the mare Jockey J. Felix said that his mount was not suited by the slow tempo and in his opinion is better suited in races over longer distances.

PERFECT RAINBOW - When questioned regarding racing back in the field, Apprentice M. Haley said that he had been instructed to ride the mare where he was comfortable. He said that after being bumped at the start and riding his mount along in the early stages when runners to his inside showed superior speed, he elected to restrain and take up a rearward position at the tail of the field. He added that his mount travelled comfortably thereafter and after being momentarily held up in the early part of the home straight he then worked to the line strongly.

COURTZIG - When questioned regarding his riding, Jockey D. Evans said that after being buffeted between runners at the start, he rode his mount along. However, when he was of the view that he would be caught wide, he elected to restrain his mount and race at the tail of the field, where it travelled comfortably. He stated that he then elected to improve around the field from the 500 metres, however, in his opinion the filly responded only fairly in the home straight.
