Jockey D. Evans was fined $400 under A.R. 137A for using his whip on SHIGZAG on 7 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 4 of which were in consecutive strides.

GENERAL:

Stewards today interviewed Apprentice S. Fawke and trainer Ms O. Cairns in relation to the declaration of Apprentice Fawke as the rider for BOMBER MISS in Race 3 and MARTHA'S MOMENT in Race 7. It was established that an unauthorised person accepted the rides on those two horses on behalf of Apprentice Fawke. Stewards will make further inquiries regarding the matter. Substitutions were made as per the Stewards Raceday Summary.

ZAHA EXPRESS - Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer Mr T Cook for the late declaration of Apprentice B. Grylls as rider of the mare. Bumped at the start. Mr Cook reported that, following the disappointing performance ZAHA EXPRESS will now be freshened up.

PRELUSIVE STRIKE - Bumped at the start.

STYLISH LUCK - Slow to begin.

Rounding the turn near the 800 metres BOMBER MISS (Apprentice R. Payne) had to be steadied when momentarily crowded for room by ZAHA EXPRESS (Apprentice B. Grylls), which was carried inwards by PRELUSIVE STRIKE (Apprentice . Z. White). Apprentice White was told to exercise more care in the future and ensure that she leaves sufficient room for runners to her inside.

BOMBER MISS - Over the final few strides Apprentice R. Payne was struck across the left arm by the whip of Jockey D. Simmons, rider of STYLISH LUCK.

Race 4: - CFT Security Maiden Handicap - 1300 metres
1st GENTLY GUIDED 2nd - CAPELLA GIRL 3rd - BOSSY BEACH 4th - DIAMONDNET

ADVERTISER - At the request of Jockey D. Simmons, underwent a veterinary examination and was found to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer R. Cochrane was told that he must provide a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.

Passing the 1100 metres CAPELLA GIRL (Jockey N. Day) shifted in abruptly and momentarily inconvenienced HAYYLER'S FELL (Jockey D. Evans). From that point HAYYLER'S FELL commenced to over-race and as a result was obliged to race 3 wide without cover.

DIAMONDNET - Approaching the 600 metres improved onto heels and had to be steadied.

OKAY SWIFT - When questioned Apprentice J. Hodge said that from the wide draw, when runners to his inside showed superior speed, he elected to ride his mount back in the field with cover, where it travelled comfortably. He said that near the 600 metres he placed the gelding under pressure, however it did not respond to his riding.. He added that in his opinion the gelding may not have backed up from its most recent start. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Trainer Ms O. Cairns was told that YOU CAN'T FIND ME must trial satisfactorily before being permitted to race again.

SKELETONS - The start was further delayed when the gelding proved difficult to load into the barriers. As the start was effected became fractious and lost considerable ground. Trainer J. Manzelmann was told that SKELETONS must trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.

SHARP BIJOU - Began awkwardly.

SEEYAWHENISEEYA - Inclined to lay out throughout the event.

BEST HURRAH - Raced wide without cover throughout.

When questioned regarding her riding of CHINA TOWN, Apprentice B. Grylls explained that she had been instructed to ride the mare in a midfield position, however after beginning awkwardly she rode her mount along to obtain a favourable position, where the mare travelled strongly. However, shortly after straightening she attempted to improve to the inside of SEEYAWHENISEEYA (Apprentice C. Jokic) but was disappointed for that run and as a result was held up for the entirety of the home straight and went to the finish without being tested. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
