Rowe reported that a subsequent veterinary examination, including blood tests, revealed that the gelding was suffering from a virus, and will now be spelled.----------Race 1: Smartstate Rentals QTIS 3-Y-O BenchMark 60 Handicap - 1300 metres 1st ALBERT THE ROCKET 2nd MISHANI BELIEVER 3rd FAB FOUR 4th - ISIS AMBER THUNDER DRUM - Was slow to begin, then raced very ungenerously in the early stages. MISHANI SHIRAZ - Slow into stride.FAB FOUR - Near the 200 metres shifted out abruptly and bumped with another runner. Race 2: Kevin's Place Maiden Handicap - 1050 metres 1st NOCK WITH YA ELBOW 2nd MOONSHINE MAGGIE 3rd MITCHY'S INSTINCT 4th - MISS RICH BAR STORIES - Slow to begin, then was inclined to race ungenerously in the early and middle stages.PARTY PIES - Slow to begin. Jockey N. Day reported that the gelding had raced ungenerously throughout and appeared to resent the tongue-tie. Trainer Ms. T Bannon advised Stewards that a gear change will be implemented prior to the gelding racing again. MISS RICH (Jockey R. McMahon) raced wide without cover early. Near the 200 metres improved onto the heels of SUPER SILENT (Jockey G. Watson), had to be restrained and as a result shifted in abruptly into the running of MAGIC WELL (Jockey K. Aho), which had to be checked. BAR STORIES (Jockey S. Sheargold), which was following, was also checked. MAGIC WELL - Jockey K. Aho reported that the gelding was inclined to race greenly throughout.Race 3: 4MK Open Handicap - 1560 metres 1st - SECRET HARMONY 2nd GLACIER EXPRESS 3rd BOBCAT 4th - ZINDZELA DE LA DILO - Near the 1400 metres had to be restrained when awkwardly placed to the inside of other runners.ZINDZELA - Was inclined to over-race in the early stages. On returning to scale the mare was found to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr J. Manzelmann was told that, as this was the second occasion on which ZINDZELA had bled, under the provisions of A.R. 53A(5) it will be ineligible to start in any race.Race 4: - Fresco's Quality Meats BenchMark 55 Handicap - 1560 metres 1st BEYOND 2nd - MAGGIE'S PAL 3rd - MONTANA MAN 4th - OZEIN - HAY DEET - Slow into stride. Held up for clear running for a short distance on straightening. MOCCADILES - Slow into stride and lost ground when crowded between runners soon after the start. Raced wide rounding the home turn. ROYAL COUPE - When questioned regarding the performance, Apprentice C. Jokic said that she had planned to take up a more prominent position in running, but when unable to do so ROYAL COUPE had commenced to over-race when in restricted room between runners near the 1300 metres. She added that she was also held up for a short distance on straightening.BEYOND - Raced wide rounding the home turn. MAGGIE'S PAL - Bumped with another runner on straightening. MONTANA MAN - Bumped by another runner which shifted out on straightening.BOAT RACE - Caught wide without cover in the early and middle stages. On returning to scale the gelding was found to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr J. Manzelmann was told that, as this was the first time the horse had bled, it will be barred from racing for 3 months under A.R. 53A(4), and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres in the presence of a steward. Race 5: McDonald Murphy Machinery BenchMark 50 Handicap - 1050 metres1st ELSPETH'S STAR 2nd - SCHREIBER 3rd - KILLER WASP 4th - MADAM PINK Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey A. Coome, the rider of SCHREIBER which finished 2nd, against ELSPETH'S STAR (Apprentice Q. Krogh) being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the patrol films and acting on their own observations, it was established that near the 100 metres ELSPETH'S STAR shifted out under pressure and bumped with SCHREIBER, which in turn made contact with MADAM PINK (Apprentice Z. White). However, stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that, had the interference not occurred, SCHREIBER would have finished in front of ELSPETH'S STAR. Accordingly, the protest was dismissed and the judge's places ordered to stand. ELSPETH'S STAR - Slow into stride. MADAM PINK - Slow to begin.WHITEHOUSE AFFAIR - Slow to begin, then caught wide without cover thereafter.GOLD RUST - Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages.SCHREIBER - Began awkwardly. SHARP BIJOU - Raced wide throughout.Race 6: Whitsunday Trophies Class 3 Handicap - 1300 metres1st BECCA THE JET 2nd - LAMERICAN 3rd - STYLISH LUCK 4th - RAPIDSET MARIO - Slow to begin.RUNAWAY RULER - Slow to begin.BECCA THE JET - Was removed from the barriers after becoming fractious and examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Began awkwardly. Apprentice S. Lacy accidentally dropped her whip near the 100 metres.STYLISH LUCK - Raced wide on straightening.Race 7: Payne Print BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1100 metres1st ANZUS 2nd - BON TEMPS 3rd - PASSATORIO 4th - VO TREASURE ANZUS - Re-handicapped 2kg following its winning performance at the Cairns meeting on Sunday, 14th August 2016. MAHRAJAAN - Knuckled at the start placing Jockey A. Butler at a severe disadvantage for a short distance.
