Race 1: McDonald Murphy Machinery QTIS 3-Y-Old Maiden Handicap - 1050 metres
1st - FAB FOUR 2nd - SHADOW BOLT 3rd - TERETTO 4th - REALLY ROCKETS

MONACO ROCKET - When Jockey R. McMahon was unable to fulfil his engagement due to a delayed flight, stewards permitted Jockey A. Taylor to be substituted as rider of the gelding.

CRAIGLEA DETROIT - The start was delayed when the gelding dislodged Jockey A. Coome during the parade to the barriers. Was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon behind the barriers and cleared to take its place in the field. Slow into stride. Approaching the 200 metres was awkwardly placed on heels and shifted out abruptly.

MONACO ROCKET - Slow to begin.

REALLY ROCKETS - Slow to begin, then hampered shortly after.

Passing the 600 metres, when racing greenly, REALLY ROCKETS (Jockey D. Simmons) had to be steadied when momentarily crowded for room by CRAIGLEA DETROIT (Jockey A. Coome), which shifted in.

1st - VO TREASURE 2nd - AUGUSTE 3rd - PRINCE DAN 4th - NELAMOS

YOU DID WHAT - Slow to begin.

Passing the 1200 metres PRINCE DAN (Jockey A. Butler), when being restrained, clipped the heels of JEWELLERY THIEF (Jockey J. P. Stanley), which shifted out marginally.

Passing the 1000 metres, after being crossed by JEWELLERY THIEF (J. P. Stanley), KNOWING ME (Jockey A.Coome) commenced to over-race, shifted out and crowded PRINCE DAN (Jockey A. Butler), which became awkward on the heels of AUGUSTE (Jockey I. Fry).

MISHANI VIKING - When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Apprentice C. Jokic said that she had been instructed to ride the mare in a forward position, however after being inconvenienced passing the 1000 metres, her mount settled further back than anticipated. She said that, even allowing for this, the gelding travelled comfortably throughout but when placed under pressure in the straight finished the race off only fairly.

AUGUSTE - Jockey I. Fry was fined $100 under A.R. 137A for using his whip on his mount on 9 occasions prior to the 100 metres. In assessing penalty stewards took into account his exemplary record in regard to the rule.

1st - PERFECTLY ALIGNED 2nd - SIX BEAT 3rd - DOUBOS 4th - DIAMOND RACER

8¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, PERFECTLY ALIGNED
9¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, PERFECTLYALIGNED
6¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, SIX BEAT

Trainer Ms O. Cairns was told that she must obtain a further barrier certificate before the gelding races again.

1st - ARTIBAI 2nd - FORTUNE MASCOT 3rd - SKELETONS 4th - MARTHA'S MOMENT

MARIO - Slow to begin.

RUNAWAY RULER - Began awkwardly.

REGGIE ROCKET - Tightened for room shortly after the start.

Rounding the first turn, near the 1400 metres, EIGHTH COMMANDMENT (Jockey A. Taylor) had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of MARTHA'S MOMENT (Apprentice Z. White), which was carried in slightly by FORTUNE MASCOT (Jockey A. Coome).

BEYOND - Approaching the 200 metres had to be checked and shifted out when attempting a doubtful run to the inside of EIGHTH COMMANDMENT.

When questioned regarding his riding from the 600 metres, as to whether there was an opportunity to improve at that point, in an attempt to hold the eventual winner behind EIGHTH COMMANDMENT (Jockey A. Taylor), Jockey R. McMahon explained that at that point EIGHTH COMMANDMENT was racing a half to one off the running rail and had envisaged ARTIBAI (Jockey A.Taylor) would improve to the inside of that runner. For this reason he elected to remain racing 3 wide. Jockey McMahon concurred with stewards that he should have made a greater effort to improve at that stage and raced tighter to the outside of EIGHTH COMMANDMENT, which would not have afforded the winner the opportunity to improve at that stage.
