NOTHING BUT FUN - When questioned regarding his riding of the gelding at the rear of the field in the early and middle stages, Apprentice L. Attard explained that his mount has had a tendency to over-race and hang out previously. He said that from his wide barrier today he elected to restrain the horse to obtain cover. When asked about his action between the 650 metres and the home turn where there appeared ample opportunity to improve into the race, Apprentice L. Attard added that he elected not to pressure the gelding rounding the home turn due to its history of hanging out. Apprentice Attard added that when asked for an effort in the home straight the gelding only finished the race off fairly and stated that he advised trainer Mr. F.Smith to engage a left hand whip rider for future runs. Stewards agreed with Apprentice Attard that the gelding finished only fairly and noted his explanations.

After being recaptured the gelding was taken back to the start, examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare was lame in the off fore tendon. Trainer Mr B. Hetherington advised stewards that he may retire the mare from racing, nevertheless, stewards told him that should he return the horse to racing he must first provide a veterinary clearance of soundness.

KILLER WASP - Passing the 700 metres had to be checked when METEOROS shifted in. Jockey S. Watkin was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground.
