Race 1: 1 SMARTSTATE RENTALS Maiden Handicap 1100 metres ONE MORE FIELD – Slow to begin. CROESUS – Hung out throughout the event. Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift out to improve. WHOA LOLA – Was declared a late scratching at 12.39pm after refusing to proceed to the barriers. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and the placegetters prior to 12.39pm as following: Win Bets DEEP VEIN - 31 centsPlace Bets (For Winner) DEEP VEIN 19 centsPlace Bets (For 2nd) SCANDIA - 25 centsPlace Bets (For 3rd) CROESUS - 22 centsAll monies bet after the Stewards' declaration of withdrawal to be paid at face value of ticket.Trainer Mr A Clark was advised that WHOA LOLA would be required to trial prior to accepting for a future race start.SHIRAISHI – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced greenly and laid in throughout the event. MORATA – Overraced in the early and middle stages. CHATILLY – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid out rounding the home turn. PAPILIO – Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 900m after becoming awkwardly placed on heels. Race 2:DONATELIFE QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1300 metres MUZZLETOP – Overraced in the early and middle stages. CRAIGLEA BANDIT – Slow to begin. Raced greenly throughout the event and proved difficult to ride out over the concluding stages. MISHANI PHAROAH – When questioned regarding the gelding leading in today’s event Jockey A Sewell stated that from the wide barrier and after jumping well in the race without genuine pace rather than being trapped wide he elected to push forward and lead. He further added that MISHANI PHAROAH was one paced and felt it beneficial to allow the horse to maintain its own momentum once leading. Stewards noted Jockey Sewell’s explanation. CRAIGLEA ICON – Raced extremely green when placed under pressure in the straight and commenced to shift out over the concluding stages. Trainer K Johnston was advised a warning would be placed on the record of the filly. When questioned in relation to the filly’s performance trainer K Johnston advised that she was surprised in today’s improved performance but added that she had altered its work leading up to today including schooling the filly. MISHANI DREAMER – Apprentice Rider C Collis license to ride in races was suspended for seven days to commence midnight 10th August 2021 and to conclude midnight 17th August 2021 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted. In determining penalty stewards took into account that this was Apprentice Collis’ fourteenth breach of this rule within the past 12 months and that Apprentice Collis had recently returned from a suspension under AR132(7)(a)(ii) which included remedial training with the rider’s skills panel. MISHANI TSUNAMI – Raced wide in the early stages of the event. Passing the 900m after obtaining cover commenced to over race. Rider N Thomas stated the gelding proved difficult to ride throughout the event. BIG GIFT – Restrained shortly after jumping away in an attempt to find cover. Momentarily inconvenienced shortly after the start. Overraced in the early and middle stages. Race 3:SKY RACING Class 6 Plate 1300 metres MONSIEUR MACRON (NZ) – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. CATMOSPHERE – Overraced in the early and middle stages. SVINDAL – Permission was granted for L Tilley to ride the gelding 0.5kg over its allocated weight. SFILZA – Overraced in the early and middle stages. STRUMAN – Jumped away awkwardly. Race 4: TAB LONG MAY WE PLAY Class 3 Handicap 1050 metres CAPTAIN FOX – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Raced wide in the early stages. HOLLYWOOD DREAMING – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. DJEBEL READY – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin. IDLE JACK – Slow to begin. SHE'S MAGANDA – A pre-race veterinary examination cleared the mare to race after it had competed in the previous seven days at Townsville on the 6 August 2021. Laid out when placed under pressure in the straight. Rider C. Collis was suspended from race day riding for eight days to commence midnight 17 August 2021 and to conclude midnight 25 August 2021 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m one more than permitted. In determining penalty stewards took into account that this was Apprentice Collis’ fifteenth breach of this rule within the past 12 months. DAWN TOO GOOD – Laid in throughout the event. Approaching the finish had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SHE’S MAGANDA which shifted out when insufficient clear and was unable to be fully tested over the concluding stages. Jockey C. Collis, rider of SHE’S MAGANDA, was reprimanded and was reminded of his obligations to stop and straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future. Race 5: MORE THAN JUST A RACECOURSE BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1560 metres COKUM GIFT – When questioned in relation to the performance of the gelding Jockey C. Spry stated that he could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer S. Acornley was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to accepting for a future race or trial. ANGOLA MISS – Improved wide during the middle stages to take up a more prominent position. ROADHOUSE – Restrained shortly after jumping away in an attempt to find a position closer to the rail. MONSTER OF POWER – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and had to shift in to improve into clear running. CHLOE JADE – Held up for clear running for the entirety of the home straight. BATTLE – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until passing the 200m. Rider reported that his mount was accidently stuck in the head with the whip of ANGOLA MISS. Race 6: TAB OPEN Handicap 1560 metres POETIC HEART – Was disappointed for a run on entering the home straight between SOLDIERS (NZ) and MASON’S CHANCE and had to be restrained and shift in to obtain clear running CINNAMON MISSILE – Approaching the 150m had to shift outwards to improve into clear running. BATTLE PLANE – Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the winning post after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of CAVALERO, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice T Fenlon rider of CAVALERO was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) and reminded of her obligations to stop and straighten her mounts when they shift ground in future. MASON'S CHANCE – Raced greenly in the early stages. BOGEY MAN – Raced wide in the early stages. CAVALERO – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. SOLDIERS (NZ) – Jumped away awkwardly. Overraced and raced wide in the early and middle stages. Contacted on entering the home straight by POETIC HEART which attempted to shift out to improve. SCHAPPOSE (NZ) – Hampered shortly after jumping away. Momentarily inconvenienced approaching the winning post after being contacted on the hindquarters by BATTLE PLAN which was having to be restrained. Race 7: RACING AGAIN THURSDAY 26TH AUGUST BENCHMARK 58Handicap 1200 metres SEQUABLUR – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Passing the 200m had to be restrained to avoid the heels of MAN O’ ROSS when attempting to improve into a marginal run. Jockey L. Tilley rider of MAN O’ ROSS was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. SCORCHA – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn. GREAT FOX – Slow to begin. Laid out when placed under pressure in the straight. MAN O' ROSS – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. MOSS THE BOSS – Raced wide over the early stages WREN PLUCKED – Raced keenly through the early stages. CINDERELLA MAN – Was declared late scratching at 8.28am after Trainer A Jones failed to scratch CINDERELLA MAN by the prescribed time. Trainer A Jones was fined $300 under AR181(1). In assessing penalty stewards took into consideration Mr Jones’ exemplary record but also took into account Mr Jones’ failure to scratch CINDERELLA MAN resulted in BILL ‘N’ TED being denied a run in the field.
