GENERAL
 
As apprentice J Devine was not riding at today’s meeting after sustaining an injury at Thangool on the 14/9/24, Stewards approved replacements as per the race day summary.
 
As apprentice M Apel was not riding at today’s meeting due to illness Stewards approved replacements as per the race day summary. Ms Apel was advised that she would require a medical certificate prior to riding again.
 
As apprentice M Castle and jockey G Cartwright were not riding at today’s meeting due to acceptable personal reasons, Stewards approved rider changes as per the race day summary.
 
Stewards approved overweights as per the race day summary.
 
Trainers R Williams, M Geaney, and T Button were reprimanded under LR67(1) for the late declaration of riders at today’s meeting.
 
Trainer R Vale was questioned in relation to the late scratching of dual acceptor SEISME from Race 8. Stewards accepted the reason tendered and took no further action.
 
Runners YA LOVE HER and RUN FREDDIE RUN underwent pre-race veterinary examination after competing at Cairns on the 14/9/24 and was cleared to start.
 
 
Race 1: SKY RACING BM60 HANDICAP  1800 M
 
PATTI WAGGIN – Over raced badly through the early and middle stages. Jockey C Whiteley reported that his mount was inclined to over race throughout the event and it proved detrimental to the finishing chances of the gelding. Trainer G Green concurred with jockey Whiteley’s assessment and further added that he would be looking into the immediate racing future of PATTI WAGGIN with his stable.
 
WHATJEUDOIN' – Stewards approved jockey J Stanley as a replacement rider due to no other suitable apprentices being available.
 
ZELSON – Slow to begin.
 
SHADOW PROJECT – Stewards inquired into the reasons for jockey S Sheargold being 1kg overweight. It was established that Mr Sheargold had advised trainer J Kuhn that he would require 1kg overweight prior to date of acceptances. When questioned Ms Kuhn advised stewards that it was an oversight and had failed to request an overweight for Mr Sheargold. Ms Kuhn was subsequently reprimanded under AR227(a) for her negligence in failing to request an overweight under the overweight rider directive.
 
TORQUE ESPAGNA – Laid in rounding the final turn and early part of the home straight.
 
STREET GLORY – Jockey J Murphy was reprimanded under AR132(5) for his use of the whip 16 times in total, 2 more than permitted.
 
 
Race 2: BOOK FOR MELB CUP DAY TUES 5TH NOV. QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1100 M
 
FRASER'S RIDGE – Laid inwards and brushed the rail near the 200 metres.
 
GIVE ME A MISSION – Bumped on jumping and lost ground. Over raced in the early stages. Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
MARCH MADNESS – Slow to begin and hampered shortly after the start losing ground.
 
THE HOME TEAM – Laid out under pressure over the final 150 metres.
 
ALIVE ALIVE OH – Stewards approved jockey S Cormack as a replacement for jockey G Cartwright. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
SAVVY MISS – Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
TEKOPO – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping with GIVE A MISSION which was unbalanced which in turn hampered MARCH MADNESS. Laid out over the final 100 metres.
 
MISSYPIE – Began awkwardly and shifted outwards shortly after losing ground. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer G Hughes was advised a warning would be placed on MISSYPIE’s record for proving to be uncompetitive throughout the event.
 
 
Race 3: LADBROKES OWN SPRING CLASS 6 PLATE  1050 M
 
LEADERSHIP SPILL – Hampered on jumping. When questioned in relation to the performance jockey A Butler stated that it was his intention to be further forward and after beginning only fairly, he became trapped three wide. He further added that the gelding had been unable to recover any discernible ground when placed under pressure from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MISTER LARRABEE – Slow to begin.
 
DOUBTING EYE – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear racing room rounding the turn until near the 150 metres.
 
GALBALAN – Laid out when placed under pressure from the 300 metres and had to be corrected on numerous occasions. A post-race veterinary exam revealed the gelding to have a foreign body in the left eye.
 
ENABLER – Began awkwardly.
 
POET'S DAY – Threw its head in the air at the start.
 
RIGEL STAR – Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
SUPER FAST – Jumped out at the start and hampered LEADERSHIP SPILL. Inconvenienced passing the 150 metres.
 
 
Race 4: LADBROKES RACING CLUB MAIDEN PLATE 1560 M
 
HADMYTIME – Stewards approved jockey J Stanley as a replacement rider due to no other suitable apprentices being available. Began awkwardly.
 
RUN FREDDIE RUN – When questioned in relation to the performance jockey R Wiggins stated that the gelding had travelled well throughout out however had become awkward in its action over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
YA LOVE HER – Hampered on jumping and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.
 
GIGI FILLE – Jumped in at the start and hampered QUEENBEEL NZ. When questioned into the improved performance trainer T Parker advised that the addition of blinkers had proved significantly beneficial in the mare’s chances today and that he was confident of an improved performance.
 
MOON OVER MATILDA – Over raced in the early and middle stages. Hung out over the final 300 metres when under pressure.
 
QUEENBEEL (NZ) – Hampered at the start and lost ground. Held up for clear racing room rounding the home turn until a point near the 100 metres.
 
TWO OF US – Jumped in abruptly at the start. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
SUPEEDO GONZALES – Hampered at the start. When questioned in relation to the performance jockey J Huxtable stated that the gelding had travelled well in the early stages however when asked for an effort was slow to respond, He further added that in his opinion SUPEEDO GONZALES would benefit from the addition of blinkers.
 
FAIRYBOWER FLYER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
 
Race 5: LADBROKES BLACKBOOK BM65 HANDICAP 1560 M
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight stewards heard a protest lodged by jockey J Stanley, rider of the second placed KELLERS SHELTER, against race winner ORCA (S Cormack) alleging interference over the final 200m. After considering all relevant submissions stewards were of the view that KEFALONIA (R. Wiggins) was permitted to shift out bumping ORCA which became unbalanced and subsequently bumped and momentarily impeded KELLERS SHELTER. Stewards also noted that ORCA had been racing true leading into the point of the incident. Stewards were particularly mindful of the contribution that KEFALONIA made to this incident and subsequently dismissed the protest and correct weight was declared on the judge’s numbers.
 
DEEPSTRIKE (NZ) – Shifted outwards after the start and lost ground.
 
JETSKI – Impeded on jumping by BROMES and KEFALONIA.
 
KEFALONIA – Jumped outwards at the start impeding JETSKI. Shifted out under pressure over the final 200m and passing the 150m, contacted ORCA which became unbalanced and in turn had shifted out bumping KELLERS SHELTER which also became unbalanced. Rider R Wiggins was severely reprimanded under AR131(a) and advised that when in similar circumstances he is expected to stop and straighten his mount when shifting ground. Trainer M Cochrane was reprimanded under AR106(1) for presenting KEFALONIA to race without a nose roll.
 
BRAVIO – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have ruptured a tendon in the left hind leg. Trainer Mr M Geaney advised that he would be looking into the racing future of BRAVIO, Nonetheless stewards advised Mr Geaney that a veterinary certificate would be required prior to racing again.
 
BROMES – Jumped inwards at the start impeding JETSKI. Trainer J Manzelmann was fined $100 under AR106(1) in which he presented BROMES to race without blinkers.
 
KELLERS SHELTER – Bumped and became unbalanced passing the 150 metres.
 
BRAZEN BRECCIA – A post-race veterinary examination of BRAZEN BRECCIA revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Trainer J Hatfield was advised that BRAZEN BRECCIA under the provisions of AR79(4), for a period of 2 months, must not, without the permission of the Stewards, be trained, exercised or galloped on a racecourse, recognized training track, private training establishment, and must not start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after: (i) a gallop of at least 1000 metres; or (ii) an official trial or jump-out; in the presence, and to the satisfaction of stewards.
 
ORCA – Near the 150m bumped by KEFILONIA and became unbalanced in turn bumping KELLERS SHELTER.
 
 
Race 6: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1300 M
 
SENSATIONABULL – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
ACOUSTIX – Stewards approved apprentice L Martyn as a replacement rider for apprentice J Devine. Raced wide throughout.
 
MICROWAVE JENNY – Held up for clear racing room until near the 100 metres.
 
ANOTHER DIMENSION – Stewards approved jockey M Murphy as a replacement rider due to no other suitable apprentices being available. Shifted wider to improve passing the 100 metres.
 
MILKY ROCKET – Bounded on jumping. Over raced in the middle stages. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
BOLD ZIP – Began awkwardly and shifted in shortly after the start contacting the hind quarters of BLUE AS and lost ground.
 
 
Race 7: BOOK FOR CLASSIC RACEDAY SAT 28TH SEPTEMBER CLASS 3 PLATE  1200 M
 
The start of the race was delayed when PERFECT QUALITY refused to load and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4:57pm.
 
HUMOUR ME – Inclined to lay out over the concluding stages.
 
SENNAPROST – Stewards approved jockey R Wiggins as the replacement rider for apprentice M Apel as Ms Apel would be non-claiming for this ride.
 
KATHY'S BEAU – Shifted in near the 1000m momentarily crowding OUTBACK STEP which had to steady. Jockey J Stanley was reprimanded under AR131(a). Upon returning to scales, jockey J Stanley reported that his mount was inclined to lay inwards in the home straight.
 
PERFECT QUALITY – Was declared a late scratching at 4:57pm after refusing to load into the barriers. Stewards ordered all monies invested on PERFECT QUALITY to be refunded in full and deductions to apply as follows:

Trainer G Hughes was advised that PERFECT QUALITY must now trial to the satisfaction of the stewards on two consecutive occasions prior to next racing.
 
STEP THIS WAY – Slow to begin.
 
OUTBACK STEP – Momentarily crowded and had to steady when placed in restricted room near the 1000m when KATHY’S BEAU shifted in.
 
EUROMATIC – Laid in when placed under pressure in the early stages of the home straight.

 
Race 8: RACING AGAIN SAT 28TH SEPTEMBER RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP  1100M
 
SNAZZY SNITZEL – When questioned in relation to the performance jockey T Chambers stated that the gelding had travelled well throughout the early and middle stages however when under pressure in the home straight SNAZZY SNITZEL had become awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the left fore and have a poor post-race recovery. Trainer J Poots was advised that SNAZZY SNITZEL would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
 
WHITTLESFORD – Over raced in the early and middle stages, and near the 800 metres had to be steadied off heels the heels of ARROGANT HEART.
 
OUT OF SIGHT – Inclined to lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
UNDER THE SHADOW – Lost contact with the body of the field in the early stages. When questioned in relation to the performance jockey J Stanley reported that UNDER THE SHADOW was slow to muster any speed in the early speed, he further added that the gelding had travelled well throughout and was strong through the line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
TSUNAMI FORCE – Stewards approved jockey C Jokic as the replacement rider due to no other suitable apprentices being available. Had to shift ground out passing the 200 metres to obtain clear racing room.
 
ARROGANT HEART – Had to be steadied off the heels of SNAZZY SNITZEL when over-racing near the 850 metres.
