QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MACKAY TURF CLUB SATURDAY 14TH DECEMBER 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 5 RAIL – TruePENETROMETER – 5.29 OFFICIALS Chair of Stewards – S LarkinsStewards – E Tickner, S Stehbens & H Gillett SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Rockhampton 7 December 2024 - Race 5 DATAMARS LIVESTOCK BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP (1050m) Jockey W Satherley (GOLD ACADEMY) was fined $400 under AR132(5) for applying the whip to his mount on 15 occasions in the home straight. In adopting penalty stewards were mindful of Mr Satherley’s recent poor record. GENERAL Overweight permitted as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Trainer J Hatfield was reprimanded under LR36(6)(a) for failing to scratch dually accepted DEEL WITH ME from race 6 by the prescribed time. In adopting penalty. Stewards were mindful of Ms Hatfield’s clear record in relation to the rule. Stewards intend to inquire into an alleged altercation between licensed participants in the enclosure following the running Race 3. Race 1: CHERYL GREEN SPRAY TANNING QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP (1050m) BANG STICK – Jumped inwards in the start impeding FABULEAN. MR SHEFFIELD – When questioned in relation to the performance of the gelding, jockey T Chambers reported that her mount was inclined to hang out and race greenly throughout the event. She further added that she advised connections that a dentistry examination of the gelding may be of benefit. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. NEV – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. BOLLA BOLLA BABE – Laid in under pressure and raced greenly in the home straight. FABULEAN – Impeded at the start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be shin sore. Trainer J Hatfield was advised that the filly would now be spelled. Nonetheless Ms Hatfield was advised that the filly would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. PRETTY PROFIT – Slow to begin. SUPID DATE – Began awkwardly before being slow to begin. Race 2: BECOME A MEMBER MTC MAIDEN HANDICAP (1050m) The start of this race was delayed when DIAMOND DEGREE proved difficult to load. DEGUELLO – Underwent a resaddle behind the barriers. EMBELLISHED EYES (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Hung-out under pressure over the final 400m. Continued to shift out over the concluding stages briefly impeding LADY DE VEGA. Apprentice S Neilson was advised to ensure she stops and straightens her mounts when they commence to shift ground. DIAMOND DEGREE – Proved difficult to load. Trainer J Manzelmann was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s record. Began awkwardly and jumped outwards impeding RUN FREDA RUN. FIRE SPHERE – Raced greenly when under pressure in the home straight. RUN FREDA RUN – Began awkwardly and was impeded soon after the start. Hung-in under pressure in the home straight. POLLY HOFFA – When Jockey S Sheargold was to be overweight, Stewards permitted jockey W Satherley to be declared the replacement rider at the advertised overweight of 55kg. Jockey Sheargold was subsequently fined $200 under the provisions of AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Slow to begin. LADY DE VEGA – Raced wide throughout. FRUIT TINGLE – Raced wide throughout. Race 3: LADBROKES RACING CLUB CLASS 6 PLATE (1100m) BARNEY RABBLE – Jockey R Olivera was reminded of his obligations under the provisions of AR131(b) to ride his mount out fully to the finish. THUNDER MOON – Raced wide in the early stages. SCANTOON – Slow to begin. RICH DIVINITY – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice N Olzard reported that the gelding, which was having its first start in the clockwise direction, was inclined to lay out throughout the event. TERMINUS – Fractious before the start and bounded in the air on jumping. Apprentice Z Sprie pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR211(1) in that he returned to the scale in excess of 0.5kg overweight. Apprentice Sprie was subsequently fined $200. In assessing penalty, Stewards noted his record in relation the rule. QUEENSLANDER – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 4: RACING AGAIN MONDAY 23RD DECEMBER BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP (1200m) JUNGLE BEAT – Jockey J Murphy advised that after beginning only fairly from a wide barrier, he elected to allow his mount to remain in a three-wide position, as he felt if he had restrained to a rearward position in an attempt to obtain cover, it would have been detrimental to the gelding’s chances. Jockey Murphy further added if he had pressured his mount to obtain a more forward position, he would have had to overly exert his mount, and therefore elected to remain racing wide throughout the event. CHILLI PALMER – Began awkwardly. NINE CARATS – Slow to begin. Raced wide with cover throughout. JUST FRANK – Apprentice Z Sprie was permitted to ride the gelding 1kg over the allotted weight of 54kg when no other suitable rider was available at the weight or prepared to take the mount. Apprentice Z Sprie was subsequently fined $200 under the provisions of AR190(3). In assessing penalty, Stewards noted that apprentice Sprie had maintained the ride and his record in relation to the rule. Race 5: EXECUTIVE LIVING HOMES QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1300m) ROTHFURY – Bumped at the start. Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained to a rearward position with cover. Brushed with SOUTHHAVEN leaving the 300m. SOUTHAVEN – Brushed with ROTHFURY leaving the 300m. ONLY ONE GENERAL – Fractionally slow to begin. OUR ROSA ROSSA – Jumped inwards at the start and bumped ROTHFURY. Travelled awkwardly for a number of strides when crossing to sit outside the leader approaching the 1100m. TRAVELLING SWEET – Raced keenly in the middle stages when leading. When questioned regarding the filly leading the event, apprentice L Martyn stated that she was instructed to settle where comfortable. She added after beginning well from an inside barrier in the small field, she elected to allow the filly to settle in the lead. Apprentice Martyn further advised that the filly finished off the event reasonably well, however did prove to be one paced and in her opinion would be better suited over further distances. Race 6: TRAVIS' 50TH BIRTHDAY OPEN HANDICAP (1560m) STAMPE – Restrained from the heels of POET’S DAY near the 1000m when over-racing. Continued to race keenly in the middle stages. CASHIN' CHEX (NZ) – Slow to begin. Jockey W Satherley pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 19 occasions throughout the event, with 8 of these being prior to the 100m. Jockey Satherley’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days, commencing midnight 23 December 2024 and to conclude midnight 31 December 2024. In assessing penalty, stewards noted the QRIC Whip Penalty Guidelines, his record and guilty plea. POET'S DAY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Race 7: MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE MTC BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1560m) BO BO BEWARE – Apprentice L Martyn was reminded of her obligations under AR131(b) to ride her mount out fully to the finish. DIASONIC – Was permitted to race bare foot behind when a back shoe was unable to be refitted. When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance, trainer L Manzelmann stated after failing on 29 October 2024, the gelding was sent for a spell. He added when resuming first up on 26 November over an unsuitable distance, DIASONIC gained significant fitness benefit, and despite the form of its last start reading poor, the gelding was beaten narrowly under the heavy weight impost of 64.5kg. Mr Manzelmann added that the gelding was more suited to today’s distance and despite sitting wide throughout, he was not overly surprised with the improvement shown. SADDLES – Over-raced in the early stages. Approaching and leaving the 100m, unable to improve forward into a tight run between BO BO BEWARE and EYES ARE LION both of which shifted ground marginally and as a result was not ridden out fully to the finish. DEEL WITH ME – Slow to begin. ROY'S ROAD – Raced wide with cover throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. CANNON HILL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. TORQUE ESPAGNA – Declared a late scratching at 11am by stewards due to no rider being available at or close to the allotted weight.
