RACE 6 - FRENCHVILLE SPORTS CLUB CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 M)
BIG SHOOTER & CULTURAL SPIRIT – Trainer K Smyth reported to stewards that following both their runs on Saturday at Rockhampton, both BIG SHOOTER and CULTURAL SPIRIT displayed mild elevated temperatures, indicating a possible virus. Trainer Smyth further added that it would be his intention to give both horses a freshen up while they recover from the virus and would reassess their preparations at a later date.

GENERAL

Stewards granted permission for the following overweights:

Race 1. EYES ARE LION – S Cormack (+1kg)
Race 2. ACCEPT POWER – Apprentice T Fenlon (+1/2kg)

As jockey R Wiggins (personal) was unable to attend today’s meeting, rider replacements were approved as per the steward’s race day summary.

Stewards questioned trainer T Cook regarding the failure to scratch, dually accepted THREE TEES at today’s meeting. Trainer Cook advised that he originally had nominated THREE TEES at today’s meeting in the event the Rockhampton meeting on Saturday 15th March had the possibility to be in doubt, with the possible forecasted weather at the time of nominations. After having started at the Rockhampton meeting, trainer Cook advised that he had forgotten to scratch from a race, ultimately scratching both in the end. Trainer Cook was reminded of his obligations to ensure that any runner in future that is dually accepted needs to be scratched from one race by close of business acceptance day.

RACE 1: SKY RACING QTIS CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1800 M)

When asked for a comment on the performance, jockey T Chambers stated that AIN’T NOBODY may not have backed up well from its previous start on Saturday, advised that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation and would possibly be sent for a spell. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a poor post-race recovery.

ALL POWERED UP – Over raced in the early and middle stages and had to be restrained.

LUMIERE – Began awkwardly and shifted inwards. Inclined to hang in throughout the event. Held up and had to shift outwards off the heels of EYES OF LION near the 300m. Laid in when placed under pressure over the concluding stages. When asked for a comment on the seemingly improved performance, stable representative J Doolan reported that the gelding is better suited racing over further distances and that LUMIERE had been working well in the leading up to today’s event and was expecting the forward showing.
