Riding Changes
When Apprentice A Thomson was found to be overweight, Stewards permitted the following changes as per the Steward’s summary. Subsequently Apprentice Thomson was fined $300 under AR120(b).

Race 1: Mareeba Mazda QTIS Maiden Plate 900 metres:
1st – McBRIDLE 2nd – HEART OF TIER 3rd – MISS SONIC BOOM 4th – THE HURRICANE

MISS SONIC BOOM – Hung out rounding the first turn near the 800 metres.

On return to scale Jockey W D’Avila the rider of second placegetter HEART OF TIER lodged an objection against the winner McBRIDLE (Jockey K Rockett) alleging interference near the 800 metres. After taking into account their submissions and after viewing the films Stewards established that after HEART OF TIER was slightly slow to begin Jockey D’Avila rode his mount along and after being crossed near the 800 metres by McBRIDLE it commenced to overrace and hung out badly from that point. When Stewards were comfortably satisfied that McBRIDLE was clear to cross runners to its inside and that HEART OF TIER hung badly as result of its own racing manners, Stewards dismissed the objection.

Race 2: Indie Structables Benchmark 55 Handicap 1010 metres:
1st – AIR OF HEAVEN 2nd – STRICTLY MAGIC 3rd – OVER THE CHOICE 4th – ROSE OF CLARE

STRICTLY MAGIC – Slow to begin.

TESTAMYCOLOURS – Bumped at the start.

NINETYNINE PERCENT – Bumped at the start. Bled from both nostrils during the race. Trainer Mr F Wieland was told that as this was the first occurrence the mare is now barred from racing for a period of 3 months and that prior to racing again the mare would have to gallop 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward.

AIR OF HEAVEN – Passing the 800 metres was hampered and carried wider on track.

DEE DOUBLEYOU – Made the turn near the 800 metres awkwardly.

Race 3: Mareeba Leagues Club Benchmark 65 Handicap 1210 metres:
1st – SCHNELLES PFERD 2nd – IDLE SITUATION 3rd – POPULAR BELIEF 4th – MASTER DANNY

WINGED WARRIOR – Was a late withdrawal at 8.25am when no rider was available.

SPIRITED SAINT – Began awkwardly.

Soon after the start TIERES ROCK and IDLE SITUATION had to be checked when crowded between ELITE ECHELON and MASTER DANNY which shifted out then shortly after MASTER DANNY was tightened for room when EXALTED WARRIOR shifted out.

LIL’ RED MONKEY – Raced 3 wide no cover throughout.

Race 4: Neddy’s Sports Tours Class B Handicap 1210 metres:
1st – GREAT PRETENDER 2nd – MAN OF BUSINESS 3rd – CENTREHALF FORWARD 4th – JOHNNY FIX IT

SAGA’S PRINCESS – Was a late withdrawal at 8.25am when no rider was available.

KING OF THEBES - Was a late withdrawal at 8.25am when no rider was available.

Jockey K Rockett the rider of PHANTOM SOX pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that passing the 1000 metres he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CENTREHALF FORWARD (Jockey M Kai) which was crowded in onto SALMON ROE (Jockey W D’Avila) and had to be checked. Jockey Rockett’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at midnight on Sunday 14th August up to and including Wednesday 24th August.

Race 5: Ian Johns Builder Trophy Benchmark 45 Handicap 1500 metres:
1st – SECRETS OWN 2nd – NIC’S DRAGON 3rd – ROBABANK 4th – SAPODILLA

SMALL CHANGE – Began awkwardly with its head up. Raced wide no cover throughout.

FRENCHENKA – Began awkwardly then commenced to overrace and refused to settle.

ROBABANK – Was crowded for room shortly after.

DAZZLING LADY – Passing the 1300 metres improved onto the heels of SAPODILLA.

WICKED THOUGHTS – For some distance passing the 1200 metres had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of DAZZLING LADY.
