GENERAL
Trainer Mr. G Wiles contacted Stewards at 9:00am on race morning to advise that he would not be able to attend the race meeting due to illness. Acting under the provisions of LR.68 Stewards permitted the withdrawal of DEFENCEMAN, BOOT SHAKER and RED CHARMER from their respective engagements.
 
Race 1: K & C Concreting QTIS Benchmark 60 Handicap 1450 metres:
1st – WULFWIN       2nd – GOOD MOOD     3rd – CRAIGLEA SWIFT      4th – WILL’S CHOICE
 
FRISCO JOURNEY – Raced wide without cover in the early and middle stages.
 
WULFWIN – Raced wide throughout. Jockey K Ballard was cautioned in relation to use of his whip prior to the 100 metres.
 
Race 2: Makybe Diva Benchmark 65 Handicap 900 metres:
1st – WORLD OF PAIN      2nd – ALBERTIQUE       3rd – MURRUMBIDGEE      4th – COURT ACTION
 
SERENE ROCKET – Refused to jump when the barriers opened and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer Mr. J Bawden advised Stewards that connections now intend to retire the mare from racing. Nonetheless Mr. Bawden was advised that, should these plans change, the mare would be required to obtain two (2) barrier certificates prior to being permitted to again start in a race.
 
MURRUMBIDGEE – Jumped out at the start bumping with another runner.
 
WORLD OF PAIN – Was bumped by another runner on jumping.
 
ALBERTIQUE – Was slowly into stride. Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 3: Pharlap Maiden Plate 1000 metres:
1st – SATURDAY OF MAY      2nd – BELL CHOISIR     3rd – VEGANER       4th – STRIKE THE FUSE
 
Stewards interviewed Trainer Mr. S Royes and Jockey A Spradau in relation to the engagement of Jockey Spradau for the mount on SATURDAY OF MAY. It was established that the engagement had been made due to miscommunication between Mr. Royes and Jockey Spradau who stated that he was never going to be in a position to ride the gelding within the parameters of the weight policy. Stewards were of the opinion that a genuine error had occurred and took no further action.
 
MISHANI TRADER which was displaying signs of mild lameness in the off fore after leaving the enclosure was withdrawn on Veterinary advice at 3:18pm. Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on MISHANI TRADER be refunded in full and further that all successful wagers placed prior to 3:18pm be subject to deductions of 16 cents in the dollar win and 18 cents in the dollar place on the face value of the betting ticket.
 
Race 4: Subzero Class B Handicap 1200 metres:
1st – MADE TO WIN        2nd – STAGE DANCER            3rd – FAST TRACK MAGIC       4th – PURFLEET PRINCESS
 
AKHEILOS – Jumped out at the start.
 
READY TO DAZZLE – Jumped in at the start.
 
FAST TRACK MAGIC – Was crowded between runners on jumping.
 
LUCKY APACHE - Was crowded between runners on jumping. Raced wide without cover for the majority.
 
PURFLEET PRINCESS – Was inclined to lay in under pressure down the running.
 
STAGE DANCER – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
Race 5: Saintly Open Handicap 1200 metres:
1st – REGAL CONSERVE     2nd – TRAVEL IN STYLE      3rd – MOSSALE          4th – AUGUSTE
 
AUGUSTE – Was slowly away after beginning awkwardly.
 
TRAVEL IN STYLE – Was slowly into stride.
