Race Day Stewards’ Report

Mount Isa Thoroughbreds
Date: Saturday 26th October, 2019
Track: Sand
Weather: Fine
Rail: In True Position
Stewards Panel: P Lane, R Smith
Officials: K Stretton (Veterinarian/Sample Collection Officer), L Finlay (Judge), C Moore (Starter), Stewards (Clerk of Scales)
GENERAL
Due to predicted sultry weather conditions, this race meeting was conducted within the provisions of the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission Caring for Racing Animals in Extreme Heat Policy – Level 1.
Race 1: THE CAVA HYDRAULICS BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1450m
Nitro City – Fractious in the barrier.
Hidonal – Slowly into stride.
Devil’s Fire – Trailed the field throughout.
Echelon Rose – Jockey J Babarovich reported the mare was reluctant to stretch out from the 700m when subjected to kickback whilst racing to the inside of other runners.
Race 2: THE COLONIAL SUPERMARKET OPEN HANDICAP 1450m
Moore Alpha – Buffeted between runners soon after jumping.
Snippy Strategic – Over-raced in the early stages.
Dutch Twist – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
Recalculate – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages.
Beaudragon – Compounded over the concluding stages. Was inspected by the Veterinarian post-race and was found to have bled from both nostrils in running. This being the 1st episode Trainer Mr. J Morris was advised the gelding would not be permitted to start in any race for a period of 3 months, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of 1000m in the presence of a Steward. AR79.
Jockey R Hancock pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that approaching the 1250m he permitted his mount Dutch Twist to shift in whilst improving when insufficiently clear of Snippy Strategic (J Babarovich) which was over-racing at the time, resulting in that gelding having to be checked and lose its rightful running. Jockey Hancock’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 days to commence at midnight Saturday 26th October, 2019 up to and including Saturday 2nd November, 2019. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account Jockey Hancock’s guilty plea, his forthright evidence, his good record in relation to the rule, and the racing manners of Snippy Strategic. Jockey Hancock was advised of his right of Internal Review.

Ayla’s Angel – Slowly away.
Fast Sun – Slowly away.
