QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT MOUNT ISA RACING CLUB SATURDAY 25th MAY 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Sand RAIL True PENETROMETER – N/A OFFICIALS Stewards Panel – R Neal (Chair); R Prowd. GENERAL‘Rider James Baker reported that he was unable to make the required weight for his two mounts today, and was replaced as follows: Race 3 – BUBBLE BATH by Jason Hoppert.Race 4 - MORABY GIRL by Chloe Lowe Having regard to all circumstances Mr Baker was reprimanded under AR190(3) and firmly reminded of his obligations to ensure he only accepts rides for which he can make the required weight. Race 1: CINEMA ISA QTS BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1,450 M NORTHERN GIRL was a late scratching at 12:02pm due to no rider being available. FORESTI – raced wide throughout; gave ground from 700 metres and finished well back – a post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. MISS MODERATION - was fractious in the barriers prior to dispatch, contacting the front barrier gate. BOARDIE – lunged forward in the barriers immediately prior to release. JAKAZONE – raced wide throughout. SNAPOUTOFIT – slow to jump away then crowded and lost ground. Race 2: SUNSET BUTCHERY BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 900 M THE BROTHERHOOD – lay in when pressured over the 250 metres and had to be continually straightened. ZUMIKON – slow to begin then commenced to race keenly with rider Chloe Lowe then electing to take the gelding wider on the track to avoid heels. LAST DESCEND – lost ground after jumping away and settled well back – rider Jason Barbarovich reported that after being crossed the gelding had lost momentum and become unbalanced because of being struck with the kick back. Rider Cory Bayliss (SOOPAT) was reminded of his obligations to maintain his correct line of running when easing down after placing POSITIVE TENSION in restricted room shortly after the finish of the race. Race 3: CAVA GROUP BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1,000 M Jason Hoppert replaced James Baker on BUBBLE BATH. KISS GOODBYE – slow to begin – raced wide through the middle stages. SPEEDY MACHO – slow to jump away then raced greenly for a short distance; was taken wider passing the 600 metres after resenting the kick back. CRAIGLEA ALTONA – raced wide throughout. Race 4: KIDD & CO CONSTRUCTION CLASS B HANDICAP 1,200 M Apprentice Chloe Lowe replaced James Baker on MORABY GIRL. Upon returning to scale, David Sparks, rider of the 3rd placed MALABAR PRINCE viewed vision of the final stages with respect to lodging an objection against the 2nd placed LET’S GO THEN, however after consideration elected not to proceed. MORABY GIRL -raced wide throughout. BENDOLIRRA – lay in under pressure in the final straight: Stewards noted rider Cory Baylissexceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ two) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken. SUNVALLEY DREAMING – out-paced in the middle stages and lost contact with the balance of the field. MALABAR PRINCE – proved difficult to load – warning placed. LET’S GO THEN – shifted out abruptly near the 150 metres crowding MALABAR PRINCE out onto WHITE RIBBON, which was bumped and became unbalanced, with LET’S GO THEN then having to steady. Given all circumstances, including the abruptness of the shift outward by LET’S GO THEN, no further action was required. Race 5: MOUNT ISA CUP DAY 8TH JUNE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1,200 M DAWN TOO GOOD – was hampered on jumping and settled back; crowded near the 800 metres when inside STAR MIDFIELDER which shifted in when not clear. STAR MIDFIELDER – shifted ground inward near the 800 metres crowding DAWN TOO GOOD – rider Nor Yadi was reprimanded under AR 131a and advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground. THE CHAMP – rider Michael McDonald was questioned regarding the gelding’s performance – in explanation Mr McDonald stated that he had settled further back than anticipated and then through the middle stages the gelding struggled in the going for a distance, however over the final 400 metres THE CHAMP had responded to his riding and had finished the race off well.
