Race 1: QH BENCHMARK 55 Hcp        1,000 M

ROCKETING TO WIN, OUR BENEFIT and HYPOTHESIZE were late scratching’s at 12:10pm due to their being no riders available.

ROMANCE FACTOR – stood flat-footed when the barriers opened, losing considerable ground, and effectively all chance. Trainer Mr Peter Inwood was advised that ROMANCE FACTOR must trial before the Stewards prior to next racing. Mr Inwood advised that it was his intention to retire the gelding.
HI ZERO – raced greenly over the final 250 metres and had to be continually straightened.
DISPUTE – fractious in the barriers; travelled wide throughout.

THERESABEARINTHERE – travelled wide throughout.
WICKED WIKI – travelled very wide in the early stages.
ONCHAO – struggled to maintain contact with the field in the early stages. Rider Jason Babarovich reported that the gelding had resented the kickback in the early part of the race, however when drawn wider had come onto the bridle and had finished the race off well.
WELLOUTOFREACH – Stewards permitted rider Gregory Walters to ride 1kg over the carded weight; began awkwardly.

Race 3: STEEJO PRESS RATINGS BAND 0 – 55 HANDICAP           1,450 M

Jason Hoopert replaced Amanda Thomson on the LAST CRUSADE.

GOLDEN EIGHTY -Stewards noted rider Gregory Walters exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+ one) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use no further action was taken.
REAL EMPRESS – correct weight was delayed after Apprentice Bella Youngberry expressed concerns that the mare had not been awarded a fair start due to her gate not being closed behind when the start was made. After reviewing the available vision of the start, together with questioning the Starter, it was found that the gate was closed and in consequence the all-clear on the Judge’s placings was authorised.
THE LAST CRUSADE – slow in the early stages.
FAR REACHING – travelled wide throughout.

Race 4: CAYA COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUALIFER/SPRING CUP OPEN HANDICAP   1,450 M

Apprentice Isobel Jessop replaced Amanda Thomson on THE TYLER.

Race 5: LORD DERBY STAKES QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE      1,200 M

SPEEDY MACHO – hampered on jumping and lost ground.
GRAND POPE tightened on jumping and got back; Rider Gregory Walters reported that after losing ground at the start, the gelding had struggled with the kickback until being taken wider passing the 500 metres where it came onto the bridle and finished the race off strongly.
INVADING JILLY – faltered and went off-stride passing the 100 metres. A post-race veterinary examination of INVADING JILLY found the gelding to have sustained a serious injury to the near front pastern, with INVADING JILLY being humanely euthanised.
