GENERAL
 
1.    Apprentice Jockey Shae Nielson advised Stewards that she suffered a hand injury while working on race morning at the stables and was indisposed, with the riding replacements as per the stewards race day summary. Jockey Nielson was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to riding again.
2.    Apprentice Jockey Landan Sykes, who was booked to travel by air to Mount Isa, was unable to attend the meeting due to experiencing traffic delay as a result of a vehicle accident near the Brisbane Airport. Riding replacements were declared as per the stewards race day summary.
 
Following jockey declarations, all race times were amended with the new times below:
 
Race 1 – 1:18pm
Race 2 – 1:53pm
Race 3 – 2:30pm
Race 4 – 3:10pm
Race 5 – 3:50pm
Race 6 – 4:30pm
Race 7 – 5:05pm
 
This meeting was conducted under the regulations of the QRIC Caring for Animals Extreme Heat Policy.
 
Race 1: BAX PLUMBING MAIDEN PLATE 1000 M
 
CHARGRILL – Blundered shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout. Hung in over the concluding stages.
 
I AM GOLD – Jockey J. Hoopert dropped his whip on straightening then shortly afterwards I AM GOLD faltered in its action and was retired from the race. A veterinary examination of I AM GOLD revealed a fractured near side knee and the gelding was humanely euthanized on track by the Club Veterinary Surgeon.
 
KLONDIKE STRIKE – Resented the kickback in the early stages. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
TWENTY THREE WALL – Slow to begin then hampered shortly after the start.
 
YOU MIGHT THINK – Raced wide throughout. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
CYBERWARS – Raced wide throughout. Faltered in its action passing the 200 metres. A post-race veterinary examination revealed an injury in the near side knee and fetlock and CYBERWARS was subsequently humanely euthanized on track by the Club Veterinary Surgeon.
 
ROCKBARTON RACER – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 2: LES HUDDY MEMORIAL BRACELET OPEN HANDICAP 1200 M
 
The running of Race 2 was delayed 3 minutes from the advertised starting time.  
 
CAFFREY (IRE) – Slow into stride.
 
LAST DESCEND – Raced three-wide throughout.
 
Race 3: STEEJO PRESS 0 - 50 HANDICAP 1450 M
 
DATINKA – Began awkwardly then shifted in shortly after the start. In the process of being straightened, apprentice Jockey T. Orr momentarily dropped his near side rein. Resented the kickback in the back straight.
 
THE LAST CRUSADE – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
JAKAZONE – Brushed the running rail passing the 600 metres. Shifted across the heels of DATINKA passing the 200 metres to gain clear running.
 
DISPUTE – When questioned on the performance, jockey J. Babarovich stated that his instructions were for DISPUTE to be ridden off the pace. Shortly after being crossed by BITTERBLUE (NZ) passing the 1200 metres, DISPUTE started to resent the kickback and commenced to climb in its action, losing ground at that point. Jockey Babarovich added that after being eased to the outside in the home straight, the gelding finished fairly, and he reported to Trainer T. Hall that he felt DISPUTE would be better served when racing forward on dirt tracks. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
 
FAR REACHING – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
RISK IN ROME – Bounded on jumping then dipped before settling into stride.
 
Race 4: GREAT NORTHERN RODEO SERIES BM65 HANDICAP 1450 M
 
METAL BAR – Raced in restricted racing room when on-speed as a consequence of METAL ROCK and BENEVENTO having that runner tight for some distance. Jockey’s J. Babarovich (METAL ROCK) and J. Hoopert (BENEVENTO) were advised to allow more room in similar circumstances.
 
HOTSTEP – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.  
 
METAL ROCK – When questioned on the performance, jockey J. Babarovich advised that METAL ROCK travelled strongly in the back straight however commenced to over-race in the middle stages when BENEVENTO raced tight on its outside. After that point, Jockey Babarovich added that the gelding compounded over the concluding stages and could offer no further explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery rate.
 
REMORSELESS – Shifted wider across heels passing the 1000 metres to avoid kickback then raced wide thereafter.
 
BENEVENTO – Raced wide throughout. BENEVENTO’s neck strap became undone when rounding the final turn. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
FROZEN PRINCE – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
COUNT OF CARFORD – Slow into stride. Had difficulty maintaining contact with the field in the early stages.
 
Race 5: CAVA GROUP BM45 HANDICAP 900 M
 
DEVIL – DEVIL was declared a late scratching at 3:52PM after refusing to load. Stewards ordered that all bets on DEVIL be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st HI ZERO 4c win, 4c place
2nd OUR BENEFIT 8c place
3rd PHILADELPHIA FREE 4c place
 
Trainer P. Inwood was advised that DEVIL must now obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
SHOALWATER BAY – Slow to begin. Had difficulty maintaining contact with the field in the early and middle stages.
 
HI ZERO – Resented the kickback in the early stages.
 
OUR BENEFIT – Shifted in abruptly then became unbalanced after being corrected.
 
BASQUE – After being kicked behind the barriers by another runner, BASQUE underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to race. On returning to scale, Jockey J. Hoopert reported his saddle shifted slightly shortly after the start.
 
HYPOTHESIZE – Was declared a late scratching at 11:40am due to no other suitable riders being available to replace Apprentice Landan Sykes.
 
MISS BOUCHARD – Raced wide throughout. Ran wide when making the home turn.
 
Race 6: KIDD AND CO BUILDERS BM50 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
FIFTY CARATS – Apprentice Jockey C. Lowe dropped her near side rein when rounding the home turn. When questioned on the performance, jockey C. Lowe stated that after jumping well from the inside barrier, she elected to ride forward and settle near the speed however the mare struggled with the heavy weight over the concluding stages.
 
BENDOLIRRA – Ran wide making the home turn.
 
GRAND POPE – Stood flat-footed and lost considerable ground.
 
ROCKETING TO WIN – Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 7: QH20 WATER SOLUTIONS QTIS CLASS 3 PLATE 1000 M
 
SPEEDY MACHO – Blundered on jumping then shifted out shortly after making heavy contact with ALLANON which was severely checked. Raced wide throughout.
 
WELLOUTOFREACH – Raced wide throughout.
 
ALLANON – Began awkwardly then was severely checked by SPEEDY MACHO. Raced wide throughout. Stewards noted rider J. Hoopert exceeded the permitted strikes of the whip prior to the 100m (+2) under AR132(7)(a)(ii); however, given the totality of the whip use, no further action was taken.
 
RIVER DANZKA – Shifted in abruptly then hampered by MINA’S LEGACY. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
LA PETITE MISSILE – Was declared a late scratching at 11:40am due to no other available riders being available to replace Apprentice Landan Sykes.
 
DANGEREUSE – Raced wide throughout.
 
MINA'S LEGACY – Shifted in abruptly at the start hampering RIVER DANZKA.
 
FABULOUS HOFFA – Was scratched prior to scratching time due to no rider being available.
