GENERAL

1.    Stewards permitted the following overweights:
          Race 5 – S Nielson (Jakazone) + 0.5kg
 
2.    The following horses were declared a late scratching’s due to there being no available rider.

Race 1: FITCHETT CONTRACTING / FELSIES MOBILE WORKSHOP QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1,200 M
 
LORD KENNY – travelled wide for the majority of the event.
MIGHTY TYTUS – lost contact in the middle stages and finished well back. Rider Amanda Thomson reported that the gelding, which was having its first start on the track, had not been comfortable on the racing surface and had failed to hit out in consequence.
JUNGLEDELI – fractious prior to the start.
SPOT ON SOPHIA – commenced to lay out passing the 800 metres and made the final turn awkwardly; continued to lay out for the remainder of the event. Lost off-hind plate during the running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality - Trainer Mr Kerry Krogh advised that the mare would now be spelled.
Following the event Apprentice Mel Campbell was attended by the track medical staff and cleared to continue, after JUNGLEDELI reared in the barriers, striking her in the mouth.
 
Race 2: KATHY PARRY / PARRY PASTORAL MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1,200 M
 
MAGNATE – began awkwardly and lost ground; travelled wide throughout.
RIVER DANZKA – slow into stride; travelled wide throughout.
MR KOBO – travelled wide throughout.
DATINKA – slow to jump away however recovered quickly.Stewards questioned rider Shane McGovern with respect to his use of his whip prior to the 100 metres. In explanation Mr. McGovern stated that he was flourishing the whip and using it sparingly, rather applying it on consecutive occasions. Given all circumstances no further action was required.  
 
 
Race 3: QEM BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1,100 M
 
GOOD KITTY -– travelled wide throughout.
DANGEREUSE -– travelled wide throughout.
BASQUE -– travelled wide throughout.
 
Race 4: JULIA CREEK ROADHOUSE BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1,450 M
 
CAPITEEL – gave ground from the 600 metres and finished well back – rider Keith Ballard stated that the gelding had failed to respond to his urgings passing the 800 metres and was disappointing – Mr Ballard further advised that CAPITEEL would be sent for a spell.
COUNT OF CARFORD – travelled wide throughout; gave ground from 800 metres and finished well back – when questioned regarding the performance of COUNT OF CARFORD rider Shane McGovern stated that the gelding had not come onto the bridle at any stage of the race and was disappointing. Mr McGovern adding that, in his opinion, the gelding had lost the zest for racing. Trainer Mr. Kerry Krogh advised that COUNT OF CARFORD would now be retired.
THE LAST CRUSADE – slow into stride.
ROCKETING TO WIN – travelled 3-wide near the lead throughout.
BITTERBLUE (NZ) – went off-stride and lost momentum for some distance passing the 1,200 metres, losing ground - when questioned rider Nor Yadi reported that the gelding had reacted badly to the kick back, and this had resulted in him becoming severely unbalanced for a period. Mr Yadi added that the gelding had also raced greenly throughout the final straight.
 
 
Race 5: DROVERS DOG HOTEL JULIA CREEK CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1,450 M
 
THE CARPENTER – Stewards questioned rider Tessa Townsend regarding the run of THE CARPENTER which lost contact with the leader METAL BAR in the middle stages. In explanation Ms Townsend stated that after being caught wide rounding the first turn she had then eased, in an attempt to obtain a position closer to the rail, with this resulting in her becoming became positioned behind METAL BAR, however once there THE CARPENTER had been reluctant to gallop through the kick back and in consequence had lost ground. Ms Townsend added, that passing the 600 metres she attempted to push THE CARPENTER forward with the gelding making ground fairly over the concluding stages. Given all circumstances Ms Townsend’s explanation was noted.
METAL ROCK - trainer Mr Terry Hall advised that it was his intention to have the gelding ridden off the pace today if circumstances permit, after disappointing in recent starts when being ridden forward.
