QRIC Stewards Report

MT PERRY RACE CLUB: 18th NOVEMBER 2017
Weather: Fine Track: Good 4  Rail: True
Stewards: K Daly
Starter: G Mooney
Clerk of Scales: G Brauer
Judges: G Brauer, T Clarey
Video Operator: C Weideman
Veterinarian: Dr K Press

Race 1: QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1000 Metres

As App N Lentini was delayed due to transport issues, she was replaced as the rider on OAKFIELD SUNSET by App H Phillips.

Approaching the 500 metres, two kangaroos crossed the track approximately 30 metres forward of the leading horses, without any runner being impeded. For remaining events club officials ensured that the race course precinct was clear to prevent a recurrence.

 DRUMMLE – slow to begin.

KELLETT – after beginning fairly was slow to muster speed in the early stages of the event.

CHRISSY'S SPIRIT – weakened badly from the 400 metres. Rider S Bayliss reported that after travelling comfortably to the 400 metres failed to respond to his riding from that point onwards and was disappointing. Trainer V Heading advised this was only CHRISSY’S SPIRIT second run back from a significant layoff and that the mare would derive benefit from today’s run. A post-race vet examination failed to reveal no significant abnormality other than a slow post-race recovery.

KAWANA VIVA – raced wide without covet for the majority of the event.

DAUNTING QUEEN – slow to begin.

STARBEATS – delayed the start when difficult to load. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 2: BENCHMARK 60 HDCP 1000 Metres

CHARSON'S GIFT – blundered of its own accord near the 700 metres and a short distance later fell, dislodging rider A. Van Der Sanden. The gelding was subsequently euthanized on humane grounds after fracturing its neck, which in the opinion of the club Vet occurred as a result of the fall.  Ms Van Der Sanden was transported to Bundaberg hospital for further treatment and will require a medical clearance before resuming race riding. Prior to the running of race 3 stewards and a delegation of senior riders examined the racing surface in the vicinity of the incident and found conditions to be safe. In this incident both TABRIZ and JETTY BETTY were severely checked.

HIDDEN DUCK – raced wide throughout. App S Barlow, in the presence of trainer Ms M Hassam, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 100 metres she allowed HIDDEN DUCK to shift in under pressure resulting in DON’T REMEMBER being checked. After taking into account App Barlow has only been licensed for a short period time and has had very limited race riding experience (approx 22 race rides), App Barlow was issued with a severe reprimand.

MARKED FOREVER – slow to begin.

TABRIZ – checked near the 700 metres when CHARSON’S GIFT blundered and fell.

DON'T REMEMBER – raced wide in the early and middle stages of the event. Checked and lost ground near the 100 metres.

JETTY BETTY – slow to begin. Checked near 700 metres.

Race 3: CLASS B HDCP 1200 Metres

The start of this event was delayed approximately 30 minutes to allow for a replacement ambulance to arrive on-course.

LAKE ARGYLE – began awkwardly.

ARCHDUKE – improved onto heels near the 200 metres and obliged to shift wider on the track.

WUJER – raced wide throughout without cover.

BURKETOWN LARRIKIN – raced wide for majority of the event.

Race 4: OPEN HDCP 1200 Metres

MIDNIGHT CURFEW – raced wide from the 500 metres.

AL'S BRIEFS – stewards acceded to a request from trainer D Gardiner for  App H Phillips to replace the injured A. Van Der Sanden after Mr Gardiner indicated the gelding can be difficult to ride and H Phillips has had previous experience riding AL’S BRIEF.

MISTA BUSY – began awkwardly then raced wide throughout.

Race 5: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 1400 Metres

SNITZIOLA – fractious in mounting enclosure and when moving onto the track. Trainer T Hong was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings pre-race manners. Underwent a pre-race Veterinary examination before being loaded into the barriers and cleared to start. Checked near the 400 metres.

SPARKLING GIFT – tightened and taken inwards near the 400 metres.

SAIL THE STARS – Rider K Gates was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 400 metres she permitted her mount to shift in when not clear of SPARKLING GIFT resulting in that runner being taken in onto NAVILLUS REXTED which in turn shifted in and tightened the running of SNITZIOLA which was checked. The riding license of K Gates was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence midnight 26th November up to and including midnight 4th December 2017. Stewards took into Ms Gates the interference was low range and her good record in determining penalty.

NAVILLUS REXTED – raced in restricted room near the 700 metres. Tightened and taken in near the 400 metres.
