GENERAL:

Race 3: As jockey D McIntosh was disqualified on Wednesday 23 March 2016 he was replaced on NEW MOON by J Hoopert.

Race 1: Glendalough Brangus Stud Maiden Plate 800m

Correct weight was delayed to allow the rider of the fourth placed horse, SAMUEL JAMES, to view the video footage to determine if there was grounds to lodge an objection against the third placed horse, MAN OVERBOARD. After doing so apprentice J Oliver declined to proceed and correct weight was given on the numbers semaphored by the judge.

MISS MIMI – Began awkwardly and lost some ground.

CHEVYS DESIRE – Raced wide throughout the event. Post-race vet examination revealed the gelding to be showing some mild signs of tying up. Trainer Mr S Thomas advised stewards he would monitor the gelding’s condition before starting again.

HERE COMES HOLLY – After passing the 700m had to be steadied, became unbalanced and was forced in by another runner.

SAMUAL JAMES – Approaching the 650m had to be checked when tightened for room.

At a subsequent inquiry jockey W O’Connell, rider of MAN OVERBOARD, pleaded guilty to a charge of Careless Riding where he allowed his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of HERE COMES HOLLY (J Hodge), which was checked, became unbalanced and forced in onto SAMUEL JAMES (J Oliver), who had to check his mount and lose its rightful running. Jockey W O’Connell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at midnight 26 March 2016 up to midnight 3 April 2016 (8 days). In determining penalty stewards were mindful of jockey W O’Connell’s guilty plea and his good record.

Race 2: Thorps Jewellers Benchmark 60 Hcp 1000m

STELLAR HEIGHTS – After being mounted in the enclosure, reared up and dislodged the rider. The horse was vetted and cleared to start and apprentice J Hodge took no harm from the fall and was cleared to ride.

SPECIAL ROSE – Fractious in the barriers and began awkwardly, losing some ground.

CAPTAIN CLAYTON – After passing the 150m clipped heels of another runner, blundered badly and lost its action behind causing it to lose some ground. Apprentice H Phillips was advised to show more care and be mindful when altering course behind other runners and give herself more room when doing so.

Race 3: McDonalds Kingaroy QTIS Maiden Plate 1200m

PUDER – Slow to jump and at the 900m was bumped by another runner. Raced wide throughout the event.

DUCHESS STAGHURST – Raced wide throughout the event.

HIDDEN ANGEL – Raced wide in the early stages and bumped by another runner at the 900m.

DIAMONDINE – Fractious in the barriers.

ALEMANA – Tightened at the start between runners and had to steady off heels at the 150m.

DEMESNE – Tightened at the start between runners, severely checked and lost ground.

SUNDAYS DESTINY – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly making heavy contact with ALEMANA, which in turn was forced out onto DEMESNE. Had a tendency to hang out throughout the event and after passing the winning post veered out sharply. Post-race vet examination revealed lacerations to the near fore fetlock. Trainer J Zielke advised stewards that in light of today’s performance his recommendation to the owners will be to send the filly for a spell, however stewards advised Mr Zielke that a warning would be placed against the filly for her racing manners.

Race 4: Crow FM Benchmark 50 Handicap 1200m

CALGARY – Twisted an off-hind plate during the race.

CANID – Slow to jump.

THE YES MAN – Fractious in the barriers and on jumping began awkwardly, making contact with the barrier partition and lost some ground.

KOKADOODLEDOO – Raced wide after passing the 600m.

Race 5: Curtain Racing Class B Handicap 1600m

OUR BOY – Slow to jump.

MASAKARI – After settling behind the leaders began to over-race in the early stages, placing the rider in some difficulty. After passing the 1200m shifted wider and was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader, where the gelding travelled much more kindly.
