General
Due to trainer P. Townsend having transport difficulties the following horses COOL CHAOS, WRITTEN GUARANTEE, DIXIE LAD and CHOICE SON were unable to arrive on course to compete and were declared late scratchings at 12.23pm as per the Stewards Summary.

Race 1 – Malcolm McCallum Memorial Benchmark 55 Handicap 800m
Stewards permitted Jockey P.Randall to ride his mount (COALBANK CAVIAR) at 0.5kg above the minimum weight.

POETIC DRAGON – Rounding the home turn improved onto the heels of CANID and as a result shifted wider on the track.

GOOD GRAB – Blundered at the start. Raced 3 wide without cover.

DAVE’S VALOR – Began awkwardly and shifted out hampering runners to its outside. Raced 3 wide with cover. Laid in over the concluding stages and tightened another runner.

CANID – Hampered at the start. Tightened near the 100m and had to steady away from the heels of DAVE’S VALOR before shifting out.

ABSOLUTE BONZA – Hampered at the start. Raced 4 wide without cover.

TELL OFF – Raced 4 wide without cover. Jockey H.Phillips reported that she felt the mare did not appreciate the firm track condition today. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no abnormalities.

Race 2 – St Patricks Farewells Matthew Vine QTIS Class 1 Handicap 1000m

The start of this race was delayed due to an incident at the start when LA BELLE LA BELLE and TARGETS broke through the barriers. TARGETS was pulled up a short distance after the start and was cleared by the veterinarian fit to race. LA BELLE LA BELLE dislodged its rider (H.English) and galloped riderless for some distance before being recaptured. Stewards ordered the scratching of LA BELLE LA BELLE at 1.50pm.

All monies invested on LA BELLE LA BELLE were ordered to be refunded in full and winning bets subject to the following deductions:

Win bets less 20 cents in the dollar
All place bets less 16 cents in the dollar

Jockey H. English was examined by QAS and cleared to fulfil her further engagements.

INSTABEATS – Passing the 800m was crowded for room when racing between BACK UP BILLY and TARGETS. Jockey K. Yoshida was questioned about his riding tactics in the home straight. Jockey K. Yoshida explained that SPOT ON which was racing ahead of INSTABEATS had been racing greenly in the straight and was reluctant to take a run that presented briefly to its outside due to the mares racing manners at that stage. Stewards noted his explanation.

LONGTGA – Fractious in gates. Began awkwardly and was slow into stride. Returned to the mounting yard with blood in nostrils and mouth. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the injury may have been as a  result of head trauma prior to jumping and not conclusive of a possible bleeding attack. Stewards advised Trainer C. Vick that the gelding would need to complete a 1000m gallop in the presence of Stewards prior to it racing again.

FORGOTTEN FEELING – Blundered at the start. Race 3 wide no cover.

MY HAPPY PLACE – Race 4 wide with cover. Apprentice L. Dillon reported that in her opinion the mare did not appreciate todays track conditions.

SANDY TOWN – Slow into stride. Had to take hold near the 900m when crowded between runners and shifted wider on the track.

DIVINE MISS BOOM – Raced 3 wide with cover.

SPOT ON – Raced 4 wide no cover. Raced greenly in the straight.

Race 3 – Nanango RSL/Pederson Memorial Maiden Plate 1200m

The start of this race was delayed when an officials vehicle was unable to be moved off the track.

TEKKEN WARRIOR – Shifted in at the start hampering runners to its outside.

JOE ALBERT – Began awkwardly and was hampered by TEKKEN WARRIOR.

MISS CAROLEE – Blundered at the start.

WICKED GIRL – Jockey R. Faehr was fined the sum of $100 under rule AR. 132(7)(a)(ii) for excessive whip use prior to the 100m.

COUNT CLANG – Raced 3 wide with cover. Jockey S. Lacy reported that she felt the gelding had resented the kickback.

SICK’EM REX – Hung out rounding the home turn. Trainer K. Afford was advised that a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners.

CYCLONE MIA – Blundered at the start. Raced 3 wide no cover. Was crowded between runners over the concluding stages when racing to the outside of WICKED GIRL and to the inside of MY COUSIN BABY which laid in.
