Trainer R. Robb will be advised that a warning will be placed on the horse’s performance.

RACE 5: BYDAND PASTORAL CO. CLASS B HANDICAP

RUN LOLLY RUN – Reared in the barriers prior to the start being effected and dislodged jockey V. Venkaya. Jockey Venkaya was subsequently stood down by the attending ambulance officer and RUN LOLLY RUN was declared a late scratching at 4.12pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on RUN LOLLY RUN be refunded, with the following deductions applicable:

25 cents in the dollar for the winner
19 cents in the dollar for the place of the winner
26 cents in the dollar for second place
25 cents in the dollar for third place

RUN LOLLY RUN was examined by the attending veterinarian with no abnormalities being detected. Jockey Venkaya was advised that a medical clearance would be required prior to his next riding engagement.

The declaration of correct weight was delayed when jockey M. Hackett, rider of the 2nd placegetter WAR GROOM, lodged an objection to COMMANDING RULER being declared the winner of the race, on the grounds that:

1. He received interference to his horse WAR GROOM at approximately the 150m, and;
2. Jockey J. Geppert, rider of COMMANDING RULER, used the whip on more than five (5) occasions prior to the 100 metre point of the event.

After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the video footage available, Stewards acknowledged that COMMANDING RULER had shifted ground marginally at the 150-100m but were reasonably satisfied that this shift did not cause sufficient interference to WAR GROOM to warrant the placings being reversed. Stewards did accept that Jockey Geppert’s use of the whip on COMMANDING RULER was in breach of AR 137A(5) in that he used the whip on more than five (5) occasions prior to the 100 metre point. However, bearing in mind the margin of ¼ length, Stewards could not be reasonably satisfied the results should be reversed. Therefore, Stewards dismissed the objection on both points and subsequently declared correct weight on the judge’s placings.

COMMANDING RULER - Jockey J. Geppert was fined $100 for using the whip on more than five occasions prior to the 100m.
