Trainer P Donnellan reported that SPORTING PAGE would be freshened up prior to its next race start.

Trainer L Applewaite reported that SISTA SISTA had pulled up well with no abnormalities detected following its performance on this day. Mrs Applewaite further stated she was of the opinion this race was too short for the filly and that it had missed a barrier trial going into the race. She added that SISTA SISTA required the run and would take benefit from it and she would proceed with its preparation.

GENERAL

As apprentice K. Matheson was indisposed due to transport difficulties, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary

Race 1: Callaghan Park QTIS 2YO Handicap- 1050 metres
1st Jerrocity 2nd Craiglea Kalbar 3rd If Only They Knew 4th- Casino Benjo

CRAIGLEA RAMBO (C. Pye) was slow to begin.

CASINO BENJO (A. Kitson) was slow to begin and the rider became unbalanced and lost further ground.

Race 2: XXXX Gold BM 70 Handicap- 1100 metres
1st Arrested For Speed 2nd Castaway 3rd Seventh Heart 4th- Sutton Brave

Stewards questioned trainer J. Poots regarding the late nomination, acceptance and scratching of ROVERT. Mr Poots explained that the gelding had galloped on Tuesday and subsequently was found to have swelling in the near fore fetlock and was lame and accordingly was scratched. Mr Poots added that ROVERT would now be retired.

ARRESTED FOR SPEED (C. Pye) knuckled on jumping.

SEVENTH HEART (J. Stanley) was a little slow to begin.

Leaving the 400m CASTAWAY (A. Coome) was held up and unable to obtain clear running until near the 200m.

SUTTON BRAVE (S. Sheargold) and SEVENTH HEART bumped near the 100m.

Race 3: Rockhampton jockey Club Maiden Plate- 1200 metres
1st Moon Guide 2nd Duan Theo 3rd Afleet Assassin 4th- Dragon Gold

Trainer C. Howell (BUCKSHOT) was fined $100 for failing to have the correct details on a stable return.

BUCKSHOT (S. Sheargold), which after being loaded got its head down, became fractious and broke through the barrier gates, was declared a late scratching at 2.31 p.m. by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice. Trainer C. Howell’s representative was advised that BUCKSHOT must pass an official barrier trial prior to its next race start. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on BUCKSHOT be refunded, with the following deductions to be made to successful wagers placed prior to 2.31 p.m;

16 cents in the dollar for the win – MOON GUIDE
11 cents in the dollar for place of winner – MOON GUIDE
16 cents in the dollar for 2nd place – DUAN THEO
27 cents in the dollar for 3rd place – AFLEET ASSASSIN

HAYYLER’S COURT (T. Bannon) was also declared a late scratching at 2.35 p.m. when it was unable to be loaded. Trainer G. Bell’s representative was advised that HAYYLER’S COURT must perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial prior to its next race start. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on HAYYLER’S COURT be refunded, with the following deductions to be made to successful wagers placed between 2.31 p.m. and 2.35 p.m.:

4 cents in the dollar for the win – MOON GUIDE
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner – MOON GUIDE
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place – DUAN THEO
10 cents in the dollar for 3rd place – AFLEET ASSASSIN

ARCANO (C. Pye) began awkwardly.

Shortly after the start DRAGON GOLD (N. Patchett) commenced to race greenly and continued to do so, and near the 700m resisted racing between GOTTAGET (D. Missen) and DUAN THEO (D. Hayse), and when restrained lost further ground. A warning will be placed against the gelding.

Stewards sought an explanation regarding the performance of GOTTAGET. D. Missen stated that he was obliged to ride the horse forward from the wide barrier, however when placed under pressure in the early stages of the home straight, the horse failed to respond to his riding. Jockey Missen further stated that GOTTAGET was inclined to lay in and proved difficult to ride out and he was of the opinion that the gelding’s fitness may have given out and that it would derive benefit from the run.

Race 4: XXXX Bitter Class 4 Handicap- 1600 metres
1st Prospector Bob 2nd Muktashef 3rd Nostoppinthemusic 4th- Donostia

JAMESON AICH (T. O’Hara) was slow to begin.

DONOSTIA (A. Kitson) jumped in the air and lost ground.

MUKTASHEF (T. Bannon) raced three wide from the 700m.

Stewards sought an explanation regarding the performance of POWER TO EXCEED. Jockey Coome stated that in his opinion the performance was fair given that the gelding had to race three deep in the early stages and he restrained to obtain cover as instructed and due to the slow early pace it failed to sprint as expected. A post-race swab sample was obtained from POWER TO EXCEED.

A post-race veterinary examination of CHEATIN’ CHARLIE (S. Sheargold) revealed no abnormalities.

Race 5: www.callaghanpark.com.au Class 2 Handicap- 1300 metres
1st Picawinner 2nd McFerrin 3rd King Ray 4th- Radiant Joy

DAMALO (T. O’Hara) was slow to begin.

MCFERRIN (C. Jokic) jumped out at the start on to RADIANT JOY (C. Pye), which was taken out and made contact with TOY JET (S. Sheargold), which became unbalanced and lost some ground.

MCFERRIN and PICAWINNER (D. McWhinney) raced wide throughout.

KING RAY (A. Coome) had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 400m and the 300m.

Stewards sought an explanation regarding the performance of STAKED EMOTION. Jockey Stanley stated the performance was disappointing as the gelding had travelled well throughout, however when placed under pressure in the early stages of the straight the horse commenced to yield ground. He added that on pulling up he observed that the horse had its tongue back and may have choked down which contributed to its performance. A post-race veterinary examination of STAKED EMOTION revealed no abnormalities.

Race 6: XXXX Summer Bright Class 1 Handicap- 1100 metres
1st Pygmy Hunter 2nd Testya Time 3rd Stormwood 4th- Emotionally Yours

REGAL SHREDDER (S. Sheargold) jumped awkwardly in on to the hind quarters of PYGMY HUNTER (D. McWhinney).

VIVA FORTE (A. Coome) began awkwardly and lost some ground.

EMOTIONALLY YOURS (N. Patchett) was slow to begin and jumped inwards.

STORMWOOD (T. O’Hara) jumped out at the start.

Shortly after the start TALEOFTHECENTURY (C. Jokic) got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance.

STORMWOOD and CRAIGLEA MANDY (T. Bannon) raced wide throughout.

Over the concluding stages EMOTIONALLY YOURS and STORMWOOD shifted ground and TALEOFTHECENTURY, which was racing between those runners, became awkward and was eased.
