McGillivray reported that his mount was inclined to over race throughout. Trainer C. Smith reported that the horse had a laceration consistent with being galloped to its near cannon and also the coronet band and would experiment with the blinkers being removed.ON THE WICKET – A post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the horse's tongue.JORDANS JET – Slow to begin. Raced greenly in the straight.Race 2: Adams Plant Hire Pty Ltd QTIS 3YO Maiden Handicap- 1100 metres 1st SONADOR ROSE 2nd THAT'S WOODY 3rd DUDOOMP 4th- FONTEIN MAGIC SOUTHERN SPECIAL – Raced wide without cover.THAT'S WOODY – After being a little slow to begin, was then further hampered when DAZZA'S REWARD jumped out.COCO DRAGON – Raced three wide without cover. A. Butler reported that his mount over-raced throughout.FONTEIN MAGIC – Slow to begin.SONADOR ROSE – Began awkwardly. Near the 200 metres, shifted out abruptly and the rider corrected his mount. Shifted out across COCO DRAGON and caused THAT'S WOODY to shift out and away.Race 3: Dooley & Bryant BM 70 Handicap- 1050 metres 1st TERMS OF TRADE 2nd EVENTIDE 3rd STAGE EXIT 4th- BON TEMPS Due to a miscommunication between jockey and trainer, C. Whitley was advertised as the rider of EVENTIDE. With permission of Stewards, A. Butler was permitted to be the replacement rider. Stewards noted the explanation, however reminded trainer T. Button to confirm riders prior to acceptance time.PYGMY HUNTER – Raced wide throughout.EVENTIDE – Slow to begin.STAGE EXIT – As the horse was resuming from a significant spell, underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection and was passed to start.SAHARAMAR – Slow to begin. Proved difficult in its preliminary. The blinkers were removed, the saddle was adjusted and the horse proceeded to the barriers, however caused a delay to the start. The horse consequently raced without blinkers. Apprentice J. Orman was reminded of his obligations regarding the use of the whip on a horse out of contention.CHERISHTHETHOUGHT – Raced wide without cover. Apprentice R. Payne was reminded of her obligations regarding the use of the whip on a horse out of contention.ZEROCITY – As the horse was resuming from a significant spell, underwent a pre-race veterinary inspection and was passed to start.Race 4: David Rowe Memorial BM 60 Handicap- 1824 metres 1st SHIKRA 2nd PREEN QUEEN 3rd OZEIN 4th- ROFRANOZ ALLGIRL – When questioned regarding the horse's performance, apprentice N. Vuille said she felt that the mare had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer Mrs C. Dore confirmed that the horse will now be spelled. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.ROCK OF FREEDOM – Slow to begin. ROFRANOZ – Slow to begin.IOWNAPRINCE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.MANZANITA – Slow to begin.MURRAMARANG – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages.GO AS YOU PLEASE- Over-raced in the middle stages.Race 5: Tropical Pool Maintenance Class 1 Handicap- 1300 metres 1st GLACIER EXPRESS 2nd HAMILTON 3rd SHIGERU MAHOGANY 4th- BENJI POINT LEO – Jumped awkwardly and lost ground. Near the 700m improved to the inside of DAM FLASH, which rolled in, and had to be steadied.BENJI – Shifted out three wide from the 700m. GET LOOSE – Raced wide without cover. Shifted in momentarily approaching the 600m, and tightened the running of MONTANA HERO, which clipped the heel of GET LOOSE and blundered. Stewards accepted that apprentice R. Payne, the rider of GET LOOSE, corrected her mount as soon as possible and took no further action.MONTANA HERO – Restrained from the heels of SHIGERU MAHOGANY near the 900m.BRALGON – Jumped a little awkwardly and made contact with the hind quarters of MONTANA HERO.Race 6: Mel and Trish Slade Class 4 Handicap- 1200 metres 1st- OUTBACK LIGHTNING 2nd- SANOSUKE 3rd – BIG BABA LOOEY 4th- GOHARDASUNPRINCE DAN – Raced wide without cover throughout.PRIMED FOR DESTINY – Stewards inquired into the horse's performance. Of particular concern was whether jockey Dale Evans could have improved into a run in the straight earlier than he did. After taking evidence from jockey Evans and viewing the patrol films, it was established that the horse had taken up a position more forward than its usual racing pattern and had been travelling strongly from the 600m, and near the 500m, jockey Evans, while aware that a run had presented itself between KHAANTANTES and OUTBACK LIGHTNING, elected to maintain his position until near the 400m as he was mindful of not gaining the lead at that stage of the race, given that the horse possessed only a short sprint. However from the 200m when placed under pressure it failed to sprint as expected. Jockey Evans further stated that the trainer may freshen the horse up. Stewards noted his explanation.ABOVE US – Stewards will follow up with trainer M. Lehmann and rider J. Stanley regarding the horse's performance.
