Race 4: 990 4RO Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - FLY ONCE MORE 2nd - OUR LUCKY LUCY - 3rd - DYNAMIC EMBRACE 4th - ITTY GITTY

Stewards considered an objection lodged by Apprentice Q Krogh, the rider of ITTY GITTY which finished 4th, against OUR LUCKY LUCY (Jockey A. Lawrence) being declared 2nd, alleging interference by that runner. After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the official patrol films and taking into account their own observations stewards found that any interference caused by OUR LUCKY LUCY to ITTY GITTY did not exceed the margin of three-quarters of a length between the two runners at the finish. In the circumstances the protest was dismissed and the placings ordered to stand. At a subsequent inquiry Jockey A. Lawrence pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of ITTY GITTY, which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey Lawrence was suspended from riding in races for a period of 11 days.

ITTY GITTY - Began awkwardly and lost some ground. Laid in near the 400 metres. Over the concluding stages, had to be checked and lost its rightful running.

FORTUNE MASCOT - Raced wide without cover throughout.

Leaving the 500 metres DIZZI LIZZI (Jockey S. Sheargold) laid in, and when corrected shifted outwards and caused CELTIC SPELL (Jockey D. Hayse), which laid in across the heels of DIZZI LIZZI when attempting a tight run to his inside, to be checked. ROCKCHESTA (Jockey N. Day), which was following, had to shift out to avoid the heels of CELTIC SPELL. Jockey S. Sheargold was told to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred approaching the winning post. It was established that DYNAMIC EMBRACE (Jockey A. Allen) raced tight to the inside of FLY ONCE MORE (Jockey C. McIver) and laid in over the final few strides and the rider attempted to relieve the pressure on THAT'S WOODY (Jockey A. Coome), which was tightened for room and had to be checked. Stewards were of the opinion that runners forward and to the outside of DYNAMIC EMBRACE had prevented him relieving that pressure and did not take action against any rider.
