After arriving behind the barriers LIFE BE IN IT (Apprentice Q. Krogh) was found to have blood in its mouth and MAGIC EIGHT BALL (Apprentice L. Attard), which worked strongly in its preliminary, were examined after arriving behind the barriers. Both runners were declared late scratchings, by order of stewards, at 12.24 p.m. No deductions were applicable.

MISHANI SILVA - Slow to begin.

REMI ROCKS - Began awkwardly and had to be eased from the heels of SPOT THE DIFF.

Race 2: Seven Maiden Handicap - 1300 metres
1st THE CLANG AFFAIR 2nd NEVAEH 3rd HAYYLER'S FELL 4th - GENTLY GUIDED

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey A. Coome, the rider of SAURABH, to view the video film. It was observed that the outside gate had failed to catch and swung back marginally.

BENTOTA - Slow to begin and then made contact with the runner to its inside.

Shortly after the start NOTHING BUT FUN (Apprentice S. Fawke) shifted out onto ISIS MARMALADE, which was taken in onto CADER IDRIS (Apprentice C. Jokic), which had been slow to begin and was hampered.

NOTHING BUT FUN - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Near the 550 metres EIRE'S LEGACY (Apprentice Q. Krogh) shifted out and took NOTHING BUT FUN wider.

HAYYLER'S FELL - Over the concluding stages was inclined to lay out under pressure, rider not able to ride out to the line.

WILDLING - Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and hampered EIRE'S LEGACY.

EIRE'S LEGACY - Raced ungenerously in the early stages.

SAURABH- Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

TABITHA MAGIC - When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the filly in the early stages, Apprentice B. Grylls said that after beginning well she was unable to take up a position midfield and had to restrain her mount to take up a position closer to the running rail at the rear of the field.

Race 3: Victoria Tavern QTIS 3YO BenchMark 55 Handicap - 1200 metres
1st TAKINGS 2nd DUDOOMP 3rd CLATEAU 4th - YOU CAN'T FIND ME

BOB MARK'S BOY - Slow to begin.

LA DIOSA - Due to a clerical error Martin Harley rather than Martin Haley was incorrectly shown as rider. Slow to begin.

POWER ON HARRY - When Apprentice J. Oliver was not riding at the meeting, stewards permitted Jockey C. McIver to be substituted.

WHYMEGOD - Jumped outwards at the start. Apprentice Q. Krogh pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that he allowed his mount to shift in near the 400 metres when not clear of CLATEAU (Jockey A. Butler), which was taken in onto LA DIOSA (Jockey M. Haley), resulting in DUDOOMP (Jockey D. Evans) having to check and lose its rightful running. YOU CAN'T FIND ME (Jockey N. Day), which was following, was checked and shifted out, causing GYPSY SECRET (Apprentice L. Attard) to be steadied. Stewards deemed the incident to be high range careless riding. Taking into account his plea and that this was his first careless riding charge, Apprentice Krogh was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on 30th July 2016, up to and including 13th August 2016 (14 days).

JUST CALL ME ANNIE - Raced wide without cover throughout.

Following the running of this race the track rating was upgraded to SOFT 5 retrospectively.

CHICA PEEPS - Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight.

Race 5: CJ Homes Class 3 Plate - 1400 metres
1st VAINACIOUS 2nd DENNIS DENUTO 3rd PULSAR 4th - RISE TO FAME

Prior to the declaration of correct weight Mr T. Cook, trainer of PULSAR, and Jockey A. Butler, rider of RISE TO FAME viewed the patrol films to determine whether to lodge objections. After doing so, they elected not to lodge a protest and correct weight was declared.

Jockey M. Haley pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that near the 400 metres he permitted MAGGIE'S PAL to shift out when not clear of VAINACIOUS, which was taken out onto TARA'S RANSOM (Apprentice S. Fawke), which resulted in RISE TO FAME (Jockey A. Butler) being checked and losing its rightful running. Stewards deemed the careless riding to be in the mid range. However, given the mitigating factors of Jockey Haley's good record and plea of guilty, stewards ordered that his licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to commence at midnight on 30th July 2016 up to and including midnight on 10th August 2016 (11 days).

DOUBOS- Near the 400 metres, tightened between TARA’S RANSOM and RISE TO FAME, steadied and shifted to the inside.

At the start CANNY AND THE JET (Jockey A. Coome) was tightened for room between PHOTOBOMB (Apprentice N. Vuille) and BOMBER MISS (Apprentice S. Fawke), both of which shifted ground.

SHADY DAISY - Raced wide without cover throughout. Near the 900 metres laid in, and KILLER WASP (Jockey D. Evans) also lay in and away from SHADY DAISY, taking ANZUS (Apprentice Z. White) in and causing SUIT (Jockey A. Butler) to be steadied.

PRINCELY - When questioned regarding her riding near the 400 metres Apprentice B. Grylls explained that her mount was inclined to hang outwards when racing behind GOWER, and when a run became available to its outside, she was able to take advantage of it and the gelding finished the race off well.

Race 8: Heineken @ Callaghan Park BenchMark 60 Handicap - 1200 metres

NADOR - At the start jumped in and caused GAS BURNER to be taken in onto BLOODED (Apprentice C. Jokic).

WORTHY HERO - When questioned about the apparent improved performance of the gelding, trainer C. McIver stated that he was of the opinion that the horse did not run out a strong 1400 metres at its previous start. He attributed the improvement today to the decrease in weight, particularly the claim of the apprentice and distance.
