1st MYSTIC LAD 2nd OUR BOY HOUDINI 3rd CLEVER STRYK 4th - COURT LANE

Prior to the declaration of correct weight Apprentice B. Grylls, the rider of OUR BOY HOUDINI which finished 2nd, viewed the video film and lodged a protest against MYSTIC LAD (Apprentice C. Jokic) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. It was established that within the final 100 metres MYSTIC LAD shifted out on two occasions, however did not hamper OUR BOY HOUDINI or cause Apprentice Grylls to stop riding her mount. Given the 1 length margin between the two runners at the finish, stewards dismissed the objection and found that the protest to be frivolous. Apprentice Grylls was fined $200 under A.R. 165(3).

However, she had anticipated that a runner to her inside would lead, and failed to do so. She said that she raced 3 wide in the early stages before assuming the lead. Apprentice Grylls was of the opinion that it was detrimental to the performance of her mount to race in a forward position.

Jockey D. Evans was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that leaving the 400 metres he allowed TAKINGS to shift out and cause SHOCKWAVE (Apprentice N.
