Benchmark 70 Handicap - 1400 metres OUR NEDDY BOY - When questioned regarding the horse’s previous performance prior to winning on this day, Jockey S. Sheargold said that the blinkers had slipped over the gelding's eyes during running. Trainer Mr J. Wigginton and Jockey S. Sheargold were reminded of their obligation under A.R. 140 to report to stewards anything that may have affected a horse's performance as soon as is practicable. Rockhampton 15th October 2016: Race 6: Veuve Clicquot@Callaghan Class 2 Handicap Trainer Mr T. Button was reprimanded for presenting ATARARTZI with other than its approved gear. Stewards took into account mitigating circumstances. Mackay 20th October, 2016: Trainer J Manzelmann reported that MISHANI STEALTH would now be sent for a freshen up for a month and may resume with another trainer. ------------ Race 1: UBET Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres 1st - SUNRISE GLORY 2nd - FLYING FERO 3rd - CROSS QUESTION 4th - CHIEF ADVOCATE When Jockey R. Plumb was ill and unable to fulfil his engagements substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Plumb was advised that he must provide a medical clearance prior to riding again. CHIEF ADVOCATE - Made contact with another runner on jumping. Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight until the 300 metres. SUNRISE GLORY - Made contact with another runner on jumping. CHILLI CON CARNE - Began awkwardly. FLYING FERO - Began awkwardly. DEBBIE'S DREAM - Near the 900 metres raced keenly for a short distance and had to be restrained. CROSS QUESTION - Jockey A. Taylor reported that her mount raced greenly throughout. Race 2: Coffee House on Bolsover Class 1 Handicap - 1100 metres 1st - OUTBACK PIRATE 2nd - DECALI 3rd - QUIET REFLECTION 4th - SAINTLY PRO CRAIGLEA PISTOL - Slow to begin, then raced 3 wide without cover. THAT'S WOODY - Slow into stride. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. SAINTLY PRO - Approaching the 900 metres shifted in, taking OUTBACK PIRATE in and causing BOOMTOWN BOY to be eased. Race 3: Tony McMahon Racing Consultancy BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1500 metres 1st - RIGHTONCUE 2nd - PULSAR 3rd - OUR NEDDY BOY 4th - STOP CRYING RIGHTONCUE - Prior to the race trainer M. Attard informed stewards that he intended that the horse be ridden back in the field. Public announcements were made to that effect, and the horse was ridden accordingly. PULSAR - Jumped out at the start, made contact with HALFBLOOD PRINCE and lost ground. Race 4: Coca-Cola QTIS 3YO Handicap - 1100 metres -1st- TINTO ELEMENTO 2nd - PARTY PARDEE 3rd - DAUNTING LASS - 4th CRAIGLEA GHETTO PARTY PARDEE - The start was delayed when the saddle on the gelding was adjusted and the horse then required farrier attention to the off fore plate. DAUNTING LASS - The start was further delayed when filly broke through the barriers, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. CRAIGLEA AMITY - Began awkwardly and made contact with OUR INVESTMENT. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages and raced wide without cover throughout. CRAIGLEA GHETTO - Shortly after the start the saddle on the colt slipped placing Jockey Hayse in difficulty riding his mount throughout. Race 5: Bacardi Martini BenchMark 60 Handicap - 1800 metres 1st - DOUBOS 2nd - DIAMOND RACER 3rd - AHMAH STAR 4th - MONTANA HERO PRINCE OF BARODA - When Jockey L. Attard was to be overweight, Jockey D. Evans was substituted. Apprentice Attard was fined $100 under A.R. 120(b). Over-raced in the early stages. ROMANOV - Slow to begin. THE GOLDEN PIG - Over-raced in the middle stages. Apprentice R. Williams was fined $200 under A.R. 137A for using her whip on the gelding on 6 more occasions than is permitted under the rule. Stewards took into account Apprentice Williams' good record. DIAMOND RACER - Shifted out under pressure from approximately the 100 metres. AHMAH STAR - Over-raced in the middle stages. DOUBOS - Apprentice Z. White was fined $100 under A.R. 137(c) for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post. Following the race, it was observed that the mare had bled from one nostril. Trainer Mr T. Cook was advised that DOUBOS must gallop over 1000 metres prior to being permitted to race again. Mr Cook informed stewards that the mare will now be sent for a spell. Race 6: WIN TV Class 6 Plate - 1100 metres 1st- DOTHERIGHTTHING 2nd- STRAIGHT GOLD 3rd- WILDEBEAST 4th - EL CAPO ZIZA SPIRIT - Prior to the race connections advised stewards that the gelding would be ridden back from its wide barrier draw. The horse was ridden accordingly. GREAT GAME - Made contact with another runner on jumping. Was slow to begin. Apprentice Jokic reported that in the straight her mount was inclined to lay in. TOP ROYAL - Made contact with another runner at the start. Near the 900 metres was steadied from the heels of WILDEBEAST. DOTHERIGHTTHING - Jumped inwards at the start and made contact with ZIZA SPIRIT. Race 7: Ray White R’ton City Melbourne Cup Race Day Class 3 Plate - 1300 metres 1st- ATARATZI 2nd - CLOSE THE BEACHES 3rd - METEOR'S MAN 4th - COURTZIG CLOSE THE BEACHES - Slow to begin. COURTZIG - Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight. ATARARTZI - Held up for a short distance passing the 400 metres. MIM'S POET - Near the 300 metres shifted out slightly, taking ATARARTZI out onto RED RADA, which in turn was taken out onto ALLGIRL. Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted by Jockey N. Day in the early stages. He explained that he had been instructed to take up a forward position if the race lacked pace. He said that it was his intention to go forward in the early stages, and when in a four wide position near the 800 metres he was able to obtain the lead easily. Trainer Z. Hohn confirmed the instructions given and said that in the past the horse has performed best when ridden forward. She was satisfied with the ride and will issue the same instructions in future, however would drop the horse back in distance. She added that she intended to sell the horse.
