Supplementary Report

From Gladstone, Saturday, 25.11.17

Stewards today reconvened an inquiry into jockey C. McIver’s fitness and subsequently being unable to fulfil his engagements on this particular day. Jockey C. McIver pleaded guilty to a charge under Australian Rule of Racing 81(f)(1)(a), in that he did present himself to the races when not physically fit to fulfil the requirements of such activity.
The Stewards noted the following;
• that he did present ill when in the jockeys’ room prior to Race 1
• that he had made admissions that he had consumed alcohol until the early hours of Saturday morning.
• It was noted he was not in excess of the prescribed limit to ride, but alcohol was present in his system.
• As a result he was stood down from riding on this day and
• the 3 horses on which he had declared rides were subsequently scratched.

In determining penalty, Stewards were mindful of his honesty and forthright attitude to the inquiry and his guilty plea. Accordingly, Jockey C. McIver’s licence to ride in races was suspended from midnight, 2 December, and up to 19 December (17 days)

EKKLESTONE – Obliged to shift wider near the 900m.

JUST CALL ME LOUIE- When questioned regarding the performance, particularly in relation to its last start, trainer F. Smith stated that the run over 1600m had flattened the horse and he had given consideration to a spell, however he freshened the horse up and altered its training regime. He added its previous start over 1200m was too short in a race which was run at a faster tempo, where the horse raced wide without cover in a worse than midfield position. In today’s event, with the race run slower, the horse was able to be positioned in a more forward position and the 1300 metres was more suitable.

Race 7: GREAT KEPPEL ISLAND HIDEAWAY KIDS FASHIONS TUES 19 DEC 0-55 HCP- 1400 Metres

SUNRISE GLORY – Declared a late scratching at 4.46 pm on veterinary advice when found to be lame in the off hind leg at the barriers. A veterinary certificate will be required prior to its next race start. The following deductions were applicable:

17 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets for the win

17 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets

17 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rdd place bets

SIEGE OF ENNIS - Prior to the declaration of correct weight, stewards viewed the available patrol film and sought a statement from the starter to ascertain if there was any reason to have the horse declared a non-runner. After doing so, it was established there was no attendant with the horse, and no other ground which could be considered to declare the horse a non-runner and correct weight was declared. Subsequent to the race, Stewards sought a statement from apprentice A. Sewell. This matter was adjourned to a later date and time. As a precautionary measure, Stewards will require the gelding to have a further barrier certificate prior to its next race start.
