GENERALOverweight permitted as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Due to an irrigation failure overnight, a section of the track between the 690m and 730m was rated in the heavy range. The track was inspected by stewards and the track curator at 4.30am and further inspected at 7.10am in the presence of senior rider Ash Butler and all parties were in agreeance that conditions were suitable to proceed. Approximately one hour prior to the running of race 1 stewards, course curator, representatives of Racing Queensland and a delegation of four senior riders inspected the area of the track between the 690m and 730m and were unanimously satisfied that the racing surface was suitable for the meeting to proceed. Race 1: RJC GALA INDUSTRY AWARDS NEXT SATURDAY QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200 M Correct weight was delayed allowing jockey J Stanley (ASK ME MATE) 2nd to view the replays to ascertain if he had grounds to protest against SUN WORSHIPPER (M Castle) 1st in the home straight. After viewing the replays, Mr Stanley elected not to proceed and correct weight was declared on the judges numbers. ASK ME MATE – Over raced in the early stages. When questioned in relation to the performance, apprentice T Fenlon stated that SECRET BOOM had not travelled well throughout and proved difficult to ride out due to the gelding hanging inwards in the home straight. Race 3: GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 M Declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing stewards to consider a protest lodged by jockey J Huxtable (LAMENTUM) 2nd against SNAZZY SNITZEL (jockey T Chambers) 1st alleging interference over the final 400m. After hearing evidence from riders and connections of the respective runners, stewards were of the view that leaving the 400m LAMENTUM progressed to improve to the inside of SNAZZY SNITZEL when that runner raced greenly and shifted inwards resulting in LAMENTUM being impeded briefly and shifting out across the heels of that runner. It was also determined that leaving the 200m SNAZZY SNITZEL, continued to race greenly and shifted outwards, carrying LAMENTUM slightly wider. Stewards were of the view that the degree of interference suffered to LAMENTUM did not outweigh the margin of one and a quarter lengths between the two runners at the finish and therefor dismissed the protest. FRACTIONAL – Began awkwardly. Jockey J Stanley reported that FRACTIONAL had sprung a right front shoe in running and stated he was of the view that FRACTIONAL would derive benefit from further racing experience and would be better suited to races over further distances than that of today’s event.
