Race 1: ROMA VET CLINIC MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
1st – STAR PROSECUTOR 2nd – GUSTAVUS VASSA 3rd – DUPAIR 4th – ELLIE’S JOY

BEACH BUSINESS – Slow to begin.

GUSTAVUS VASSA – Difficult to load. Trainer W. Baker was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding.

ELLIE’S JOY – Raced ungenerously and threw its head in the air when being restrained from heels over the concluding stages.


Race 2: THE SOUTHPORT SCHOOL BENCHMARK 50 H’CAP – 1000M
1st – NOOR DROPPER 2nd – SNAKE ATTACK 3rd – DAIQUIRI BELLE 4th – NORDIC QUEEN

SABOTEUR – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

WASHER – Raced wide throughout. Bled from both nostrils. As it was the second occasion the gelding had bled, trainer J. Patterson was advised the gelding would now incur a lifetime bar from racing.

SNAKE ATTACK – Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.


Race 3: ROMA GAS SUPPLIES RUGBY SLIPPER QTIS 2-YEAR-OLD H’CAP – 1000M
1st – CRAIGLEA EVELYN 2nd – CRAIGLEA MERCEDES 3rd – BENEVOLENT LAD 4th – CRAIGLEA EPSOM

CRAIGLEA MERCEDES – Blundered at the start and lost ground. Jockey C. Eaton reported that it was the colt’s first time racing on sand and he raced awkwardly in the early stages.

CRAIGLEA EVELYN – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer’s representative S. Johnston advised the filly raced very wide at its last start at the Sunshine Coast and benefitted from the drop in class in today’s event.


Race 4: GO WALLABIES CLASS B H’CAP – 1200M
1st – BELLA SONG 2nd – FAB’S COWBOY 3rd – AMADEUS LAD 4th – TERRASAURUS

YAMANNERS – Slow to begin.

BELLA SONG – Raced keenly in the early stages.

TERRASAURUS – Apprentice K. Nakata advised the gelding was inclined to hang out rounding the first turn and therefore he went forward from that point.

CRAWS – Jockey J. Rudd reported the mare resented the kickback and therefore raced wide throughout.


Race 5: ECHIDNAS OPEN H’CAP – 1200M
1st – MAN OF DESTINY 2nd – CWMBRAN 3rd – BARCELONA BOUND 4th – CUMANI

KING OF THE FLAME – Slow to begin.


Race 6: ITS NOT ORIGIN BUT ITS CLOSE CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M
1ST – I AM BACCHUS 2ND – CUBAN FURY 3RD – AUSTRALIAN VENTURE 4TH – WHO’S NEXT

AGADIR – Blundered at the start and lost ground, then took no competitive part in the event and was eased from the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer C. Smith advised the gelding would now be retired from racing.

AUSTRALIAN VENTURE – Slow to begin.

BOB MARK’S BOY – Raced wide throughout.


Race 7: RUGBY RACE DAY BENCHMARK 50 H’CAP – 1640M
1st – WILD GODSON 2ND – NOTHING VENTURED 3RD – DESTINY’S DESIRE 4TH – MURPHY’S HUSTLER

NOTHING VENTURED – Slow to muster speed.

FAMECHON BARONESS – Tightened for room shortly after the start.
