RACE 1: ROMA BOBCAT HIRE/LANDMARK MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
1ST - BEACH BUSINESS 2ND – THE SMUGGLER 3RD – OTTIS 4TH – GUSTAVUS VASSA

ARTFUL SONG – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Raced greenly. Apprentice J. Brand reported the gelding resented the kickback in the early stages.

THING OF BEAUTY - Tightened for room shortly after the start.

THE RED SHOE – Raced wide throughout.

GUSTAVUS VASSA – Inclined to hang in in the early stages.


RACE 2: EZYQUIP HIRE CLASS B H’CAP – 1000M
1ST – SNAKE ATTACK 2ND – ROOI ROE 3RD – SIR CLISBY 4TH – STAR PROSECUTOR

SIR CLISBY – Began awkwardly, then was tightened for room shortly after the start.

GIRLS SAY – Tightened for room shortly after the start.

CONTINUITY – Steadied near the 700m when tightened for room to the inside of ROOI ROE (C. Bryen), which shifted in despite the efforts of its rider.

ROOI ROE – Jockey C. Bryen reported the filly, which was having its first start on a sand track, raced greenly throughout.

BLINKIN HASTY – Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

STAR PROSECUTOR – Jockey C. Dixon returned to scale in excess of 0.5kg over his allotted weight and was subsequently fined $100. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account Jockey Dixon’s good record in relation to this rule.


RACE 3: ROMA CONTAINERS OPEN PLATE – 1000M
1ST – KING OF THE FLAME 2ND – POLAR BLITZ 3RD – HIZOU 4TH – CWMBRAN

POLAR BLITZ – Bumped with another runner shortly after the start.

CWMBRAN - Bumped with another runner shortly after the start.

HIZOU – Brushed the running rail near the 700m when racing in restricted room to the inside of POLAR BLITZ (C. Bryen). Jockey Bryen was issued with a reprimand for this incident.

KING OF THE FLAME – When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer P. Webster reported that he had added a cross-over noseband to the gelding’s gear, and that he felt the gelding benefitted from having five weeks between runs and dropping back to 1000m. Stewards noted the explanation.

CONFIDENT STAR – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, apprentice J. Brand reported that the gelding was not suited by only having seven days between runs.


RACE 4: IRISH MCGANNS/DON BROSNAN TYRES BENCHMARK 55 – 1200M
1ST – HAMILTON 2ND – FRISKY CRUISER 3RD – MARAUDING’S GIRL 4TH – NOOR DROPPER

LUCKS IN – Began very awkwardly and jumped in the air at the start, dislodging Apprentice H. English. Apprentice English was examined by the on course paramedics and cleared to take her remaining rides.

PRETTY KOOL KAT – Refused to jump from the barriers and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer R. Green was advised he will need to obtain a further barrier certificate for PRETTY KOOL KAT prior to the mare racing again.

STAR SYSTEM – Jumped in the air at the start.

NOOR DROPPER – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey B. Powell reported the mare raced too keenly in the early stages and was disadvantaged by the handicapped weight of 61kg. Stewards noted the explanation. Lost its near fore and near hind plates during the event.


RACE 5: GIFTS AT TEACUP/RAYNERS AUTO ELECTRICAL BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1640M
1ST – WILD GODSON 2ND – AUSTRALIAN VENTURE 3RD – WAR HORSE 4TH – SKY DISK

NOTHING VENTURED – Tightened for room at the start.

FUSCUS – Tightened for room at the start.

MENDELSSOHN – Raced wide throughout.

SKY DISK – Raced wide to the 900m.
