Race 1: MOUNTS MACHINERY MAIDEN PLATE 1000m

The start of this race was delayed when CONSTELLATION MISS refused to load into the barriers. CONSTELLATION MISS was declared a late scratching at 1:37 pm by order of the stewards and will require a barrier certificate prior to its next start. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on CONSTELLATION MISS be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

17 cents in the dollar for the Win #8
17 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8
18 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1
21 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #4

PUBLIC FORTUNE – Began awkwardly at the start making contact with a runner to the outside.

HOLY CLANGERS – Raced wide throughout from the 700m.

LITTLE BOMBER – Began awkwardly, blundering at the start. Tailed behind the field throughout.

ZOOBERNS – Inclined to lay in throughout the event, proving especially difficult to ride out over the concluding stages.

ARTFUL SONG – Began awkwardly

SHYCOSA - Was presented to the mounting with the incorrect saddle clothe. Jockey A. Taylor advised that it was her mistake due to picking up the wrong saddle clothe. Jockey Taylor was subsequently fined $100.

Race 2: BRETT POLLOCK CONSTRUCTIONS BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1000m

COVER UP – Jumped out at the start

MISS RALPHIE – Jumped in at the start.

SABOTEUR – Slow to begin. Crowded for room by runners either side shortly after the start and subsequently lost ground.

NOTHING BUT GOLD – Shifted out sharply over the early stages.

SAN DIEGUITO – Raced wide without cover throughout

BROOKLYN BOY - Raced wide throughout the middle stages and rounding the home turn. Apprentice B. Nothdurft advised that he was instructed to avoid sand throw back during the event, and for that reason he elected to race in a wide position.

Race 3: WESTERN FOOD WHOLESALERS CLASS 3 PLATE 1200m

QAMAR – Was scratched by stewards at 10:45am after the trainer’s representative advised that the mare refused to load onto the float to be transported to the track.

EXSTRATUM – Raced in a back position throughout the event. Improved its run during the middle stages, racing wide for the remainder of the event.

Race 4: PFD FOOD SERVICES OPEN HANDICAP 1200m

LOUPPY BEND – Began Awkwardly

STORM CRAZY – Jockey I. Coombes was dislodged after the gelding sustained a compound dislocation of the off foreleg at the 250m. Subsequently STORM CRAZY was euthanized on humane grounds. Stewards opened and adjourned an inquiry into the incident and after taking evidence from all riders, with the exception of Jockey Coombes who was transported to hospital for further treatment.

POLAR BLITZ – Upon returning to scale, Jockey C. Bryen reported that his mount found the 1200m distance to far. He felt that the gelding would be more suited to a 1000m event next start.

GARDER LA FOI – At no stage travelled strongly throughout the event, subsequently fininshing in last place. When questioned, Jockey S.Egan could give no explanation regarding the mare’s poor performance. The mare appeared to be free in her action upon returning to the enclosure.

Race 5: GOOD YEAR ROMA TYRE & BATTERY BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1640m

KING BING – Jockey J.Rudd replaced Jockey I. Coombes. When questioned regarding the poor performance of the gelding, Jockey Rudd advised that horse weakened badly after failing to run out the 1640m distance of today’s event.

DESTINY’S DESIRE – Began awkwardly.

MESSA NOTTE – Bumped by another runner at the start.

BAY HERO – When racing in a wide position the first time down the home straight, Jockey B. Powell was forced to ease his mount in order to obtain a more advantaged position closer to the rail.
