RACE 1: SPRINGWATER MAIDEN PLATE – 1000M
 
THE SMUGGLER – Eased near the 900m when THING OF BEAUTY (App. L. Tilley) shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice Tilley was subsequently reprimanded for this incident.
 
SARGOOD LANE – Raced wide without cover from the 700m to the home turn.
 
THAT’S HER I THNK – Brushed the running rail at the 550m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
AMLECK – Slightly hampered near the 800m. When questioned regarding the performance of the filly in the early and middle stages, apprentice B. Nothdurft advised that he was instructed to race away from the rail in search of better going.
 
RACE 2: FAIRVIEW BENCHMARK 30 H’CAP – 1000M
I GOT TRIX – Trainer J. Forde was fined $100 for failing to produce the document of description for the mare. Apprentice S. Palmer reported the mare failed to respond to his riding and was very disappointing.
 
PLATTERS – Hung out rounding the home turn.
 
KATZENPFOETCHEN – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, which was below expectations, apprentice N. Morton reported that the gelding normally races in a forward position however showed no pace in today’s event. She added that in her opinion the gelding did not handle the track today, and after being forced with race wide rounding the home turn failed to respond to her riding in the home straight. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
POLAR BLITZ – Jockey C. Bryen was reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
 
RACE 3: BOTTLE TREE RATING 0-45 H’CAP – 1200M
 
MAXWELL CREEK – Late scratching at 11.30am as no rider was available.
 
VIOLET MIST – Bucked on several occasions shortly after the start and took no competitive part in the event. Trainer W. Barker was advised that the mare would need to perform satisfactorily in a jumpout prior to racing again.
 
QAMAR – Raced wide without cover throughout. Apprentice J. Brand was reprimanded for using the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.
 
HIDDEN CHIEF – Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight, preventing apprentice S. Palmer from riding the gelding out with the whip.
 
 
RACE 4: SANTOS GLNG CUP OPEN H’CAP – 1640M
 
WHO’S NEXT – Inclined to lay in from the 900m.
 
BLUE JEST – Hampered slightly shortly after the start by another runner.
 
 
RACE 5: PLEASANT HILLS BENCHMARK 50 H’CAP – 1640M
 
FRANKS – Overraced in the early stages. Tightened momentarily near the 200m.
 
MURPHY’S HUSTLER – Dipped at the 600m. Held up and lost ground behind a tiring runner approaching the home turn.
 
TREMONT – Lost ground approaching the home turn despite the efforts of its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
ATEACES – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, which was below market expectations, apprentice B. Nothdurft reported that the gelding hung out and raced wide rounding the home turn. He added that the gelding then struggled to run on, which he attributed to the handicap weight of 66kg.
