GENERAL
 
Upon arrival of the course, Stewards identified that a section of the track from 400m-450m was inconsistent with the remainder of the track. Appropriate remedial work was undertaken and upon inspection by Senior Jockeys and Stewards, the track was deemed safe to continue the meeting.
 
Roma Race Club was advised that remedial work would be required on the back-gates of the starting barriers prior to the next meeting to ensure they were in satisfactory working order.
 
 
Race 1: MAA MAIDEN PLATE (1200m)
 
BINDANGO – Laid in over the concluding stages, momentarily tightening THE UPRISING. Apprentice A. Graham was advised to exercise greater care.
 
CLUB ROLLER – Very slow to begin. Trainer W. Baker was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding for standing flat-footed. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
MARTY AWHA – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Apprentice B. Moffatt reported that in his opinion, the gelding got left flat-footed during the middle stages which proved detrimental to its winning chances.
 
MISTER SWEET – Was declared a late scratching at 1:25pm when refusing to load. Trainer S. Rodgers was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record. Stewards ruled that the following deductions be applied to all successful wages prior to 1:25pm:
 
16 cents per dollar for the win
20 cents per dollar for the place
 
THE UPRISING – Momentarily tightened inside the 100m when BINDANGO laid in.
 
MORABY GIRL – Laid out under pressure in the home straight before continuing to shift ground inside the 100m obliging its rider to stop riding and straighten the mare.
 
PICCOLO NIKKI – Slow to begin.
 
Race 2: TILLETT CONTRACTING QTIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP (1200m)
 
Correct weight was delayed allowing Apprentice T. Leslight (KARBORS) and connections to review the footage over the concluding stages. One satisfied that although marginal contact had occurred between KARBORS and EIL ‘N’ ALL in close proximity to the winning post, Apprentice Leslight elected to not lodge a protest regarding the interference, and when Stewards’ were of the same belief that the interference was minor, Apprentice Leslight had full opportunity to ride his mount out, and proximity to the winning post, correct weight was declared on the judges’ semaphored numbers.
 
ANACHEEVA LAD – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.
 
HEAT – Raced very wide from the 400m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
OUR GOLDEN CHERUB – Laid in under pressure rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight.
 
KARBORS – Momentarily inconvenienced close to the winning post when EIL ‘N’ ALL laid in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations consistent to being galloped on.
 
EIL ‘N’ ALL – Laid in under pressure in the home straight, momentarily inconveniencing KARBORS close to the winning post.
 
OAKFIELD BLOSSOM – Stewards’ permitted Apprentice S. Willis to be declared as the replacement rider when Apprentice D. Dennett was unable to claim his full allowance. Apprentice Bennett was reprimanded under AR190(3). Momentarily held up on the heels of OUR GOLDEN CHERUB rounding the home turn. Performed below expectations. Apprentice S. Willis stated the mare felt uncomfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
RIPOVA – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 3: SUFFCON BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (1000m)
 
OFFICE JIM – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SHOTGUN SONNY – Momentarily held up rounding the home-turn before being obliged to shift inside of ZA HIDDEN DRAGON to obtain clear running. Shifted in approaching the 100m, tightening OUTREACH BELLE onto the running rail. Apprentice D. Bennett was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. Taken in slightly approaching the winning post when ZA HIDDEN DRAGON laid in.
 
OUTREACH BELLE – Inconvenienced approaching the 100m when SHOTGUN SONNY shifted in and obliged to be steadied.
 
BARCLAY’S BANK – Tailed the field in the early stages when resenting the kickback.
 
BONNIE EV – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ZA HIDDEN DRAGON – Rolled in rounding the home turn, inconveniencing SHOTGUN SONNY which was obliged to be shifted inside to obtain clear running. Apprentice T. Townsend was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages, directing SHOTGUN SONNY inwards. Apprentice T. Townsend was advised to exercise greater care and straighten her mounts.  
 
 
Race 4: WILD DESERT RATINGS BAND (0-50) HANDICAP (900m)
 
SAVVY SONG – Hampered on jumping between runners, which both shifted ground. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
DANTE ALIGHIERI – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Inside the 200m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of HARAMAIN and obliged to be shifted to the outside of the runner to obtain clear running.
 
BOBBYBOUCHE – Began very awkwardly and subsequently slow to muster sufficient speed. Tailed the field throughout. Apprentice T. Townsend reported that the gelding didn’t handle the track surface.
 
EMIRATE PRIDE - Raced wide throughout the event.
 
RASPBERRY BULLETS – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
HARAMAIN – Jockey G. Steele reported that her saddle slipped shortly after the start, placing her at a disadvantage throughout the event. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.
 
 
Race 5: PTW AUTO BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1640m)
 
SALAZAR – Slow to begin.
 
IMPACTFUL – Contacted on jumping. Raced wide and without cover until obtaining a one-off position approaching the 1100m.
 
BRETON – Began awkwardly, shifted out and contacted IMPACTFUL. Became under pressure inside the 400m.
 
MOVE BEYOND – After beginning well, settled further forward than may have been expected in the small field. Became under pressure inside the 400m.
