Race 2: Kia-Ora Tanawha Developments Maiden H'cap – 1600m

WULFIES LADY – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in a midfield/back position if circumstances permit. Inconvenienced after passing the 300m. Jockey R. Fradd, rider of CASH LEAKAGE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that when following TAHITIAN FLYER he elected to shift out passing the 450m around that horse’s heels, resulting in a tightening to WULFIES LADY, causing jockey G. Colless to check that horse, and then continued to shift out, making heavy contact with KING ARCHER, causing that horse to become unbalanced. Jockey Fradd was suspended from riding in races for a period of 12 days, to commence at midnight, 21 February and to expire at midnight, 4 February.

GOWAN BRAE – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the horse would racing in a handy position if circumstances permit. Raced wide in the early stages and was then ridden forward to assume a position outside the lead passing the 900m.

IN KOBE – Slow to begin.

SWEET BUCKS – Placed in restricted room and had to be steadied near the 900m.

KING ARCHER – Overraced for a short distance when being restrained to obtain cover passing the 1200m. Steadied from heels when weakening approaching the 300m.

TAHITIAN FLYER – Trainer K. Walker advised stewards that the horse had pulled up in a distressed state and would now be sent for a spell. Stewards advised Mr Walker that a warning would be placed on the horse’s performance as it compounded quickly from the 600m.

Race 3: Coast 2 Coast Earthmoving BM80 H'cap – 1800m

ABSOLUTELYANYTHING – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground.

KENTAUR – Jumped away awkwardly.

RETUNE – Shifted wider at the 900m to improve and raced wide from that point onwards.

FOREST WAY – Stewards interviewed apprentice M. Murphy regarding his riding of the horse from the 700m. After taking evidence from apprentice Murphy, stewards advised him that, in their opinion, he had erred in failing to shift out around the heels of KENTAUR after passing the 700m, which would have afforded him clear running and as a result of his failure to shift wider, FOREST WAY was held up for clear running from the 600m until approaching the 250m. Stewards took into account his status as an apprentice and took no further action.

Race 4: Tracknology.com.au QTIS 3yo Class 3 Plate – 1200m

TIME TO TORQUE - Held up from rounding the home turn until passing the 200m.

COMMAND HUNTER – Laid out on the home turn and then laid in under pressure in the home straight, and near the 200m shifted in and became unbalanced when making contact with another runner.

FLYING LABELLE – Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 6: Butler McDermott Lawyers Class 2 H'cap – 1200m

BEDISGUISED – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running from the 250m until leaving the 100m.

PROMAS – Slow to begin. Stewards afforded jockey B. Stewart the opportunity to comment on the performance. He indicated he had been instructed to ride the horse in the second half of the field and as a result took hold out of the barriers. He then had to pressure the horse in the early stages to remain in contact with the rest of the field and felt then that the horse travelled well until being asked for an effort rounding the home turn, however the horse did not quicken as he would have liked, however over the final 250m the horse was doing its best work, and he was obliged to steady over the concluding stages after improving on to heels. He indicated from a more favourable draw and with a step up in distance he was of the view the horse would be able to take up a more prominent position and would appreciate more ground.

GREY TIGHTS – Commenced to overrace after passing the 600m when placed in restricted room between runners.

OUR ROCK O’REILLY– Held up on heels rounding the home turn.

GROOMED FOR GLORY - Raced 3 wide without cover.

Race 7: Nurture Financial Group Class 3 Plate – 1600m

MARTIAL ART – Tightened for room at the start. Stewards questioned jockey M. Cahill in relation to his riding from the 700m when it appeared he had opportunity to improve between TUMBLING AL and DREAM SPEED when that horse shifted to a 3 wide position. Jockey Cahill agreed the horse was travelling well enough to improve at this point, however as TUMBLING AL had been inclined to hang out and he had similar concerns that DREAM SPEED may shift back in, he was reluctant to improve into what he felt was only a tight run. He agreed that had he been able to obtain this position it would have resulted in him racing closer, however he did not feel at the time he would have been able to comfortably obtain that position. Stewards noted jockey Cahill’s explanation.

CANONGATE – Jumped away awkwardly.

BALINESE BOY – Slow to begin.

TUMBLING AL – Steadied near the 1200m when placed in restricted room. Hung out throughout.
