PUDER – Became awkward and lost ground after passing the 600m.

ZARFASTAR – Raced ungenerously throughout the event and improved on to heels leaving the 500m and had to be steadied, and again near the 400m had to be steadied after improving onto heels.

DIAMONDINE – Raced 3 wide without cover. The saddle on the horse was slipped back, placing its rider at a disadvantage soon after the start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

COONOWRIN RUBY – Raced wide.

Race 3: Bampak Maiden Plate – 1400m

On return to scale a protest was lodged by jockey M. Hellyer, rider of the 2nd placegetter, FIZZICALLY WICKED, against I’M O’REILLY being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from the riders concerned and viewing the stewards’ patrol video, it was established that over the concluding stages both horses shifted ground, both contributing to contact during the final 10 metres of the race. Stewards, given the proximity of the incident to the finish, could not be satisfied that the contact between both horses had a material effect on the result of the race and as both horses had contributed to the incident, the protest was dismissed and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s placings.

ELIZONDO – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels approaching the 800m when the pace slackened, and overraced until passing the 700m.

ITARA – Began awkwardly. Had some difficulty gaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight.

Race 6: Youngs Bricklaying Class H'cap – 1200m

SAVAGE HOOD – Began awkwardly and shifted in, bumping PROVOCATEUR. Tightened for room near the 500m. Apprentice M. Murphy, rider of PROVACATEUR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount shifting in at a point near the 500m, resulting in a tightening to runners to the inside, that being SAVAGE HOOD and BALDY HOST, and as a result of this tightening, jockey G. Geran, rider of SAVAGE HOOD, was obliged to check that gelding at that point of the race and lost ground. Apprentice Murphy was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 9 days, to commence at midnight, 28 February, and to expire at midnight, 8 March.

PROVOCATEUR – Bumped on jumping away. Raced 3 wide throughout.

FLINDERS PEAK – Hampered shortly after the start.

Race 7: Variety Queensladn Benchmark 75 H'cap – 1000m

Correct weight was delayed whilst stewards viewed the video footage of the start. After viewing the footage, it was determined that MYWAYORTHEHIGHWAY became fractious as the start was effected, causing its rider to be dislodged shortly after the start. Stewards were satisfied however that the mare other than for its own actions had been afforded a fair start and was therefore declared a starter. Connections were advised that a further barrier certificate would be required for the horse prior to its next race start.

WRITTENINTHERAIN – Obliged to alter course near the 200m in order to secure clear running.
