Stewards asked apprentice J. Orman to comment on the performance of the gelding. He indicated he would have preferred the race to have been run at a more genuine pace, adding that after being slow to begin he attempted to restrain his mount in order to obtain cover and cross closer to the fence, however the horse raced keenly passing the 1000m and he was obliged to remain 3 wide. J. Orman added that after improving rounding the home turn behind STONECAST the gelding commenced to lay in upon straightening and he was obliged to pull the whip through to the off side and he felt this allowed STONECAST to sprint quickly away from him at this stage of the race. He added that the horse finished the race off fairly and may benefit from a step up in distance. BRADBURY’S QUEST – A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which tailed off, revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Connections were advised a veterinary clearance must be provided, and that in light of the horse’s recent form, and poor performance in tonight’s event, the gelding’s nomination would be refused from TAB venues until its form improves at non-TAB venues.
