ITARA – Slow to begin.

MRS BOOLE – Overraced in the early and middle stages and had a tendency to hang out.

PALOSHOW - A post race veterinary examination of the filly, which finished last, failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
Race 3: XXXX Colts and Entires Maiden Plate – 1300m

USSANDU – Slow to begin and then was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages and had to be ridden vigorously to remain in touch with the main body of the field. Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported her mount laid in under pressure in the home straight. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse regarding its racing manners. Trainer K. Kemp indicated he would most likely experiment with the horse’s gear in a trial prior to its next race start.

Race 5: Access Insulation CG&E Class 3 H'cap – 1000m

Correct weight was delayed in this event when connections of Jetsonic wished to view the photo finish for first. After viewing the photo finish stewards were satisfied with the decision made the Judges to declare a dead heat for first and therefore declared correct weight.

MADIBA – Connections advised from the wide gate the gelding would be ridden quietly. The horse was ridden accordingly. Raced wide without cover.

TIBURON – Slow to begin.

SUPERIOR DRAGON – Slow to begin.

SHOULDA TO SHOULDA – Shifted out under pressure near the 300m, resulting in MADIBA having to restrain and shift wider to avoid that horse’s heels. Raced wide without cover.

JETSONIC – Apprentice jockey M. McGillivray was fined $500 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

DELIGHTFUL FEELING – Jockey G. Colless reported he had been instructed to ride his mount with cover and that the horse travelled well until the 500m when he was required to steady the gelding to avoid the heels of TIBURON which shifted out. He further added that from this point the horse did not respond to his riding until the final 100m and was doing its best work over the concluding stages.

KODACOMMAND – On return to scale the gelding collapsed after leaving the saddling enclosure. An interim veterinary diagnosis indicated a suspected fatal cardiac arrhythmia. Blood and urine samples were obtained post mortem, and the horse was sent for a post mortem examination at the Gatton University.

Race 6: Coastline BMW Band 0-65 H'cap – 1800m

The start of this race was delayed due to the delay with correct weight from Race 5 and also the post mortem management of KODACOMMAND.

On return to scale a protest was lodged by apprentice B. Stower, rider of the 2nd placegetter, GOLDONI, against SPIRIT MINDED being declared the winner, alleging interference over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the video, stewards established that SPIRIT MINDED had improved past GOLDINI in the home straight and had shifted in slightly. At the same time HOW CAN I HELP shifted out resulting in GOLDINI racing in restricted room. Shortly thereafter GOLDINI was struck over the head by the whip of R. Fradd, rider of SPIRIT MINDED. Stewards were also of the view that SPIRIT MINDED did have some bearing on GOLDINI when laying in over the concluding stages. Stewards could not be satisfied that the minor interference caused by SPIRIT MINDED warranted a reversal of the placings and therefore dismissed the objection.

NO PROBLEM – Apprentice jockey L. Dittman reported his mount overraced for a short distance when the pace slackened during the early stages. He added the gelding travelled well until the 600m, however failed to respond to his riding from that point onwards.

GOTTA ZIP - Stewards questioned apprentice B. Grylls regarding her riding of the horse from the 1000m, at which point she had shifted wider on the track and improved around the field until assuming the position outside the lead passing the 700m. Stewards had concerns that this may have had a detrimental effect on the horse’s overall performance. Miss Grylls explained that when the pace slackened at this point rather than fight GOTTA ZIP, which had commenced to overrace, she shifted wider and improved. She indicated that she had anticipated obtaining a position outside the lead more easily than she did, however she was satisfied that her decision was in the best interests of the horse at this point. Stewards accepted the explanation tendered and were satisfied that given the circumstances Miss Grylls found herself, her actions were not unreasonable.

Race 7: Hot 91Ratings Band 0-70 H'cap – 1400m

The start of this race was delayed as Raced 6 was delayed and also the delay in protest deliberations from Race 6.

PARTY SPIN – Slow to begin.
