Race 1: Bundaberg Rum Maiden Plate – 1600mSOLAR BY PANELS – As R. Wiggins was to be overweight, A. Allen was substituted as the rider of the horse. Jockey Wiggins was fined $200. Jockey A. Allen reported it had not been his intention to lead, however from the wide barrier it became apparent he would be caught wide after attempting a take a position midfield and he elected to stride forward to the lead. A post race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off hind leg. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start. LUCKY LYNDEL – Tightened for room at the start and had to be steadied. Raced wide before tailing off. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer Matthew Dunn indicated the horse would now be retired from his stable. LAST MOMENT – Jumped away awkwardly.COUNTING CARDS – Overraced in the early stages.TEEKAYO – Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to a position outside the lead passing the 1200m. Raced wide without cover. BRIGHTNBREEZY – Raced wide without cover throughout. HIGH PROFILE – Laid in throughout the event, particularly in the home straight when under pressure. JOHANTEE – Following the disappointing performance, trainer J. Wehlow indicated he would advise the owners that the horse would now be retired from racing. Race 2: XXXX Gold Maiden H'cap – 1200m POETMAN – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. MIGHTY TAX – Jumped away awkwardly and when the pace slackened leaving the 900m had to be steadied from heels and lost ground. Jockey N. Thomas was obliged to stop riding and alter course when inconvenienced by another runner over the concluding stages.WINTON STREET - Improved onto heels and had to be steadied when the pace slackened leaving the 900m. HIGHDINI - Held up rounding the home turn and then inconvenienced by another runner after passing the 400m.CANTERBURY KING – After passing the 300m had to be checked and shifted out abruptly to avoid the heels of the weakening GRUINARD BAY. NERO D’AVOLA – Inconvenienced in the home straight. LADY MANHATTAN – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight, inconveniencing Shifted out under pressure in the home straight, inconveniencing NERO D’AVOLA. Raced wide. MORE SAVINGS – Raced wide without cover. SLICKSTER – Raced wide.GLENTURRET – Raced wide. CAPE DENISION – Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported her mount raced wide throughout and raced greenly in the early and middle stages. JERUSALEM – When asked to comment on the performance of the horse, particularly from the 600m, jockey D. Griffin indicated from the wide barrier he was obliged to position the gelding at the tail of the field and as the horse races over longer distances it was doing its best work over the concluding stages and would benefit from a step up in distance. He indicated he had been held up for clear running from the 600m to the 400m and after being afforded clear running laid in under pressure and was also inconvenienced near the 300m. Jockey Griffin added he again had some difficulty securing clear running until the final 100m when the horse finished the race off well. GRUINARD BAY – After passing the 400m commenced to lay out and then weakened badly causing interference to runners which were following. A post race veterinary examination of the horse, which weakened badly from the 400m, found the horse to have some soreness in the off fore fetlock on flexion. Trainer B. Dais was advised he must have further veterinary inspection performed and following this stewards would consider if any further action should be taken. Race 3: Bellvista Tavern QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1000m STARANTE – Trainer J. Smerdon was fined $100 for the late declaration of apprentice R. Johnston-Bell, who due to being ill was subsequently replaced by apprentice B. Grylls,. Stewards questioned apprentice B. Grylls regarding her riding of the horse from leaving the 500m when it appeared she had been afforded clear running to the inside of AURUM LAM. Apprentice Grylls indicated she had not initially been inclined to improve into that run as she did not wish to race on the fence in the home straight as she felt the track was inferior on the inside. She added that near the 400m she did take a run on the fence and again steadied the horse near the 200m when it appeared AURUM LAD commenced to lay in. She added the horse was doing its best work over the concluding stages and would appreciate a step up in distance which would enable the horse to take up a more forward position. Stewards advised Miss Grylls that in similar circumstances when afforded clear running she should take every opportunity to improve her position so as not to leave herself open to question, however did not feel the matter should be taken any further. OH BOY – A pre race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a loose tooth, however was cleared to race. Had a tendency to lay in under pressure whilst weakening and was obliged to check near the 200m after laying in on to the heels of SHREWVELON after laying in on to the heels of SHREWVELON, which shifted out under pressure. Miss R. Myers, rider of SHREWVELON, was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten when shifting ground. MISHANI SLEUTH – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. GESSNER – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Apprentice S. Eilbeck reported it had been her intention to ride the horse in a forward position, however after beginning awkwardly she was obliged to steady and take up a trailing position. She added that the horse overraced in the early and middle stages as a result. After being held up on the home turn was again obliged to alter course after passing the 300m and in doing so made contact with another runner. Then had some difficulty securing clear running over the final 100m. REWARD FOR RICHES – Jumped away awkwardly, almost dislodging its rider. Held up rounding the home turn.COUGAR – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Inconvenienced another runner causing apprentice Brooker to stop riding the filly at a point near the 150m. PRINCE OF FLINDERS – Slow to begin.CRAIGLEA EVELYN – Held up rounding the home turn and disappointed for a run after passing the 400m and had to be steadied. Again inconvenienced and had to be steadied near the 200m. Raced wide throughout and inconvenienced at a point near the 700m. TRIGAMY – Jockey G. Colless reported his mount raced greenly in the lead and laid out under pressure in the home straight. ROTHABYE – Raced wide throughout and inconvenienced at a point near the 700m. CANTON ROAD – Raced wide without cover. SAVANNA AMOUR – Raced wide without cover.Race 4: Yalumba Class 1 H'cap – 1000m MAGIC SQUARE – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. WINE BARREL – Inconvenienced near the 200m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten for a short distance. GRACEVILLE – Inconvenienced near the 200m. LITTLE WEALTH – Raced wide without cover.PRECISION STRIKE – Shifted its off hind back during the event, which had to be removed following the event. Jockey G. Goold reported that his mount was somewhat beaten for speed in the early stages and would appreciate a step up in distance. Race 5: Brightwter Hotel Class 2 H'cap – 2200m BROOKTON ICE – Slow to begin.DARU SAM – Slow to begin. Performed disappointingly and finished a distant last. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer J. Holcombe was at a loss to explain the performance and gave an undertaking he will have blood tests performed in the coming days and report back to stewards with the findings. TILLZALE – Had to be steadied when placed in restricted room passing the winning post on the first occasion. JUPITER PALM - Had to be steadied when placed in restricted room passing the winning post on the first occasion. B. Panya, rider of PRETTY LUCKY, was reprimanded for shifting ground when not clear. Near the 900m had to be steadied again when placed in restricted room by GODWOOD, which shifted in. Jockey A. Spinks, rider of GODWOOD, was reprimanded. BLAZING INFERNO – Improved onto heels when the pace slackened passing the 1300m and shifted wider on the track and raced 3 wide without cover from that point onwards. GODWOOD – Was ridden forward form the tail of the field from the 1200m and took up a position outside the lead passing the 850m. It was reported to stewards by a race day official following the running of Race 7 that blood had been observed in both nostrils of the gelding. Mr Cornish indicated that the presence of blood was as a result of external trauma and therefore Mr Cornish will be advised that an endoscopic examination must be performed on the hose within 24 hours of today’s race. Race 6: Give Me Five For Kids Benchmark 85 H'cap – 1600m GOTYACOVERED – Declared a late scratching at 12.12 pm following advice from trainer K. Wood that the horse had an elevated temperature. Mr Wood was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the horse’s next race start. HOT SAGA – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels near the 700m and had to be steadied when the pace slackened. COMACINA – Slow to begin. Lost its near fore plate in running. MS BA BELLA – Overraced in the middle stages. COMACINA – Jockey J. Lloyd reported his mount laid in under pressure from the 400m. Race 7: Parklands Tavern Class 3 Plate – 1200m WEHRMAN – Trainer B. Robinson fined $100 for failing to advise a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. On return to scale a protest was lodged by apprentice L. Attard, rider of the 5th placegetter, DAZET, against MIRI MIRI being declared 4th, alleging interference over the final 100m. After taking evidence from the riders concerned and viewing the stewards patrol video, stewards were satisfied that MIRI MIRI shifted out under pressure, impeding the running of DAZET, and were satisfied that the interference suffered was sufficient to affect the placings given that the margin was half a length and therefore the protest was upheld and the Judge’s placings amended to read: No. 10 – Banda Spice – 1st No. 3 – JOHNHRO – 2nd No. 4 – MISHANI VIKING – 3rd No. 1 - DAZET - 4TH No. 11 – MIRI MIRI – 5th. LAUGH A LITTLE – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Rider C. Dell reported his mount was making an abnormal respiratory noise post race. JOHNHRO – Overraced in the middle stages and near the 700m shifted out, forcing another runner wider on the track. Held up for a short distance rounding the home turn. DADDY LONGLEGS – Forced wider near the 700m. MISHANI VIKING – Jockey B. Stewart will be interviewed at a later date regarding his whip use on the horse. MIRI MIRI – Lost near fore plate in running. Race 8: Cellarbrations Class 1 H'cap – 1400m SCARLETT’S BOY – Declared a late scratching at 1.55 pm when trainer N. Boyd was unable to present the horse due to personal circumstances. ABEEIL – As T. Treichel was to be overweight, J. Missen was substituted as the rider of the horse. Jockey Treichel was fined $100. NEAR THE CITY – Slow to begin. Apprentice M. Murphy was fined $100 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m. MORINGA’S TOOTSIE – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight and was obliged to alter course approaching the 200m in order to secure clear running.
