On return to scale a protest was lodged by apprentice E. Ljung, rider of the 4th placegetter, CODE ONE, against LAKOTA SIOUX being declared the winner, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards’ patrol video, stewards were satisfied that CODE ONE had obtained clear running after passing the 300m, and was then tightened for room after leaving the 200m when LAKOTA SIOUX shifted out under pressure. This resulted in the rider of CODE ONE taking hold of her mount, causing the horse to lose ground. Ljung to take hold of CODE ONE and lose its rightful running at a point passing the 200m.
